  1. There are even some accounts that say she beat her head on wall repeatedly until death. Most of these false allegations come because of two things: 1)No one was there to witness it as she was probably alone at the burj (maybe guards?) 2)and because the enemy was the one to tell the story. Like a kathavachak said of course the enemy would lie and degrade our martyrs. Mata Gujri left body of her own will and peacefully through dasam duaar. Of course the guards who found her, unable to know this or believe in such a noble woman, came to their own erroneous conclusions. And there testimony was believed by some ,cuz they were the only ones there.

    Youtube

I got an adblocker on google chrome, cause some of the ads on youtube were horrendous.....
  3. If they believe that c*@p, they are worse off than I thought. Reminds of the Black Muslim movement at the time of Malcom X. A charasmatic Elijah Muhammed started a movement to get all the African Americans back to their original religion, Islam, he called himself the first person to introduce Islam to the western world, kind of like a western prophet and he spread his blue-eyed-white devils theory, in which blacks were the original people and the weakest and brownest were chosen by the devil to breed, until white people came about, weak, mean, and cunning. Elijah used this dumb theory and others to spread seperation rather than integration among African Americans. When Malcolm X visited Mecca, he met real Muslims, and learned about the original Islam. He felt like a fool, and he came back and tried to convince Black Muslims about Elijah Muhammed's corruption and falsehood, as well as about integration, but he was assasinated, most think by the Black Muslims. Though, Malcolm X did blame the Arabic Muslims by saying because u didn't spread the real Islam, a fake one was able to flourish.............Something to think about for Punjabi Sikhs as well as Non-Punjabi Sikhs.
  4. True. Kaur actually means 'heir' or 'crown prince/princess' the ones who will inherit all!
  5. Also sikhnet has sakhis with audio as well as text.
  6. akj.org has rainshai uploads from around the world. sikhsangeet.com......but it's mostly recorded, albums and of course youtube
  7. So true. Just the other day my mom was telling us that in the old days, there used to be no weddings in the month of 'Poh' because nobody wanted to create a 'mohaul' or environment of joy and celebration, in remembrance of the Sahibzadey. And I was like, but the Sahibzadeys got married, don't they always say, 'larhi moth viahi'.......she said Sikhs view it as a sacrifice......
  8. AklI piV@ kY buJIAY AklI kIcY dwnu ] (1245-5, swrMg, mÚ 1) aklee parhH kai bujhee-ai aklee keechai daan. Wisdom does not come by reading textbooks; wisdom inspires us to give in charity. I disagree with the above translations, I have commonly heard the translations of 'aklee keechai daan' to be that u should think before donating, think of the consequences, because in essence, you will be accountable for it. And yes, this has made me very reluctant to donate, as I am afraid of the unforseen consequences. And I always want to give money to the beggars, but don't because i'm afraid they'll use it for drugs or alcohol.
  9. Take it slow, really loved the line, "My life may not be perfect, but I am blessed." from the link you provided: http://www.searchquotes.com/quotation/I%27ve_seen_better_days,_But_i%27ve_also_seen_worse._I_don%27t_have_everything_that_I_want,_But_I_do_have_/403806/ Close_to_the_edge: get away from the computer/technology, that is what makes me waste my time and be most lazy, and go take a walk in nature, or anything else.
  10. Go to this link and read the article, it may help: http://manvirsingh.blogspot.com/2006/04/i-want-to-take-amrit-but-my-parents_11.html You said your mom wants you to be westernized, maybe you should explain to her that's not the best option. Tell her being an amritdhari will keep you in good sangat, and help u concentrate on your studies. That it's better to set the foundation now, because being amritdhari will keep you away from drugs, gangs, and clubbing that normal 'westernized' teenagers do in high school. Show her how typical teenagers just play video games, cuss after every word, etc. Tell her being amridhari will give you a purpose, a safe environment, and good friends. She seems to be afraid of your appearence (beard, hair) tell her that it's illegal for ppl to discriminate, and just recently in CA a law was passed that made it illegal for employers to make ppl work behind the scenes, because of their apperance. etc. Other than that, keep doing ardaas, and leave it to waheguru. Also you can set an age limit, be like 'mom i want to take amrit, if u don't let me now, i will take it at __16____(fill in the blank) no matter what' or ask your mom, if u think im to young now, when will i be old enough? and make her tell you an age
  11. Have u heard the story of buddha? He found the answer to be enlightenment and self-control. What if you took everyone's sins (this is a Christian viewpoint, karam in sikhi represent justice, everyone gets what they deserve) and ppl increase their sins? What if murders, kidnappings, etc increase because ppl are no longer afraid of the consequences. What if ppl think 'I won't have to pay for this, go to joon, or hell' that other guy will suffer for me, i can do whatever i want. You see budhism, sikhism, hinduism believe that goodness, peacfulness will only come from the inside. As long as a person has greed, lust, anger, pride, and attachment, the person will suffer and cause others suffering. And will erasing sins, erase all suffering? What about you, who suffers from looking at other ppl's pain, what about those who suffer because they are jeolous. All suffering is, because we are seperated from our origin. Many answers were provided: seva, simran, even some shabads given at the beginning of this thread....what will u do?
  12. Not a learned person, just gonna repeat hearsay and experience. I always thought that there are 5 sikh colors: white, black, orange, blue, yellow. And heard that originally black was not a Sikh color, but was added during the british times, when Sikhs wore black dastaars to protest against the British. Then it became part of the panth. Now I hear that orange was not an original Sikh color, but added to our panth from brahminical influences. But i think orange should be considered a sikh color, just as black was, orange/kesri stands for the khalistan movement, bhai sukha jinda wore it on their saheedi day, babbar khalsa wore it, etc..
  13. So the answer, as it always is to everything, become a sikh, do kamaii, do naam simran,.......... from jap ji sahib .......... Manai terai taare gursikh....
  14. Raja Janak was able to alleviate people's pain even in hell...........and many people remember sants/mahapurkhs long after their gone, because of the peace they brought to earth, and how they showed ppl the right path, and helped cure them...............but for all these things u need kamaii.....which u need a human body to do.........if u can't even endure looking at other ppl's pain, how well u endure it on urself......
  15. If u can read punjabi, read Te Diva Jagda Rehega, for a sikh perspective on the post 1984 khardku lehar Also read Bhai Randhir Singh's autobiography and sikh history from outsiders like the Gallant Defender and like the others mentioned Macauliffe's books i think panthic.org has current situation on punjab politics. also read the book that has a collection of Sant Jarnail Singh's speeches, it's in english, and that's where i learned about the dharam yudh morcha, snipers attacking harminder sahib etc...

  17. I always compared bir ras to ' berserk' as in Viking history/literature, ppl who were unstoppable in battle, cause they had no fear, no sense of danger, just went after the enemies....
  18. A short movie that addresses this issue: or can be found at: http://www.sikhnet.com/filmfestival/2012/blind-journey/
  19. I'm a people watcher and a 'do nothing' type. I would like to be a 'wall supporter' as its so comfortable, but all the old ppl take all the wall spots, and if i find a spot, they evict me, and i can't even protest as all the public support is with them....
  20. I've tried to post/attach files here, but haven't been successful. If you teach me how to post/attach files here, the pdf version of brar's will be here ASAP. check ur email.
  21. Put a positive spin on it: I wasted all these years, but no longer. From now on I will do my best. Whatever happened in the past is done ( and was ur fault, In my opinion if we do anything bad or worthless, then it was cause of free will and is our fault, but is we do something good, like seva, it was a blessing). Now you have to make sure, how many years of life are left, you do not waste. P.S. Thanks for the post, it was a wake up call, i have the procrastinating problem as well, n thought, i'll become disciplined in the future, but i didn't reckon on the regret/guilt..........Thanks again.
