  1. keep trying. Improve a little everyday. Choose one thing to give up or choose one thing to add to your daily habits. Search the forum for amrit vela, there are many topics.
  2. See what she has to say about it: http://www.kaurista.com/2012/10/09/dear-kaur-a-letter-from-balpreet-kaur/
  3. I agree, especially cause of the situation in Rajasthan, one of the killers of '84 was made the MP by Badal in Rajasthan and when Sikhs in the US/UK started the case against him and others, he froze all the assets especially agricultural land for Sikhs living in Rajasthan. I can just imagine what those Sikhs are thinking, "aap ta well settled in US/UK te hun sade vaste pangay pay jandhe" that they have secure lives in the western countries, while we are suffering the consequences of them trying to get justice. But I don't think we should give up. Let the government do all it can, poora zor la lain do, it'll hopefully be only a little longer, cause it seems like what the Singhs are doing here in the US/UK is starting to have an affect. About becoming shastardhari: it's a dilemma both ways, if they get caught with any serious weapons they'll be arrested as being terrorists, and with kirpans n sticks it'll be hard to fight off mobs carryin guns n another massacre can occur. That's when you know ur living in slavery, as second class citizens, when there's no help in sight
  4. if sarabloh is not an issue, chinese/japanese kitanas and kirpans are good as well.
  5. No, nothing was kept hidden. We don't eat meat theologically, (besides other practical and personal reasons) because of the belief in karma and reincarnation. So eating animals, will have a negative impact on spiritual journey, because we have to take births to pay back the karma of eating the animal and making in suffer. Personally, I think people ate different things because of the different regions they lived in, not because of a purpose. It's pretty hard to find vegetation in the desert and snowy areas. So people ate what they could find. That's why most people near the coasts will have fish in their diets. HOWEVER, in the modern times, the best diet is vegetarian, because now fruits/vegetables are available at all times and all places. Most people agree that meat eaters are huge contributors to global warming and scarcity/starvation. Also eating meat is unhealthy (unsaturated fats, and diseases)...go to any vegan website or slaughterhouse movie on youtube and it will become apparent that in modern times, vegetarian diet is best.
  6. Sant Attar Singh Ji Janer Wale Can u tell me more about the above mentioned Sant. I may have a very old pic. cause that's like almost my pind ....janer.......in moga right?
  7. now that u've explained to the guy?...,,,can u imagine urself going back with hanged down head/embarrassed smile........um i've changed my mind...the faith is no longer an issue........what does that say about u? pushover?.........also what if next the guy says. better without beard, or trimmed looks better.....n u bring out the faith thing again.......what's the guy supposed to think?..........possibly give the guy more incentives, im pretty sure the faith issue will go away......... The point is if u give in once, and u know its wrong and u feel the guilt.....it's hard man,no escape. Someone told me, "if u have no feeling of guilt or doubt that what ur doing is wrong, then do it. no matter what it is, it won't even effect ur karma(as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else, cause then it gets complicated).
  8. Great example/quote, it totally sums up what i wanted to say. It's to set ur own mind at ease, also the panj pyare are guru saroop, i'm sure they would give the correct judgement and even agree with u if it warranted the situation. It doesn't hurt to ask or confess. whatever happened to sarbat da bhalla? and no enemity? Agree with the milk thing, our gurudwara in the usa, washes the Nishan sahib with dehi and milk. Once after the Nishan Sahib chola seva, the sangat went to eat langar, but there was no dehi! my dad was furious but some may even say our langar, especially in the west, is a ritual, party type thing, no homeless, needy there.
  9. In Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, there are writing of prominant Muslim saints such as Bhagat Farid and Bhagat Kabir Ji. (perhaps u could read those, they talk about musullah, allah, namaz, uju etc) Also writing of low cast HIndu devotees, as well as Guru Ji's writings and Sikhs writings. Interesting to note, that the Mughul emperor Jahangir (who was a muslim) tried to have Guru Arjan Dev Ji write even one quote form Quran, but Guru Ji refused. And also Aurangzeb, tried to convert all Hindus to Sikhs, but Guru Tegh Bahadur stopped him. (u should really read up on this). I am not telling you this to insult Islam or to imply that all Muslims are the same. I'm telling u the history of the Guru's in relation to Islam and intolerance. We believe not all ppl in any race or religion were the same. There are also good Muslims. Saain Mia Mir (a muslim saint) was a close friend of Guru Arjan Dev ji(mentioned above) and Siaan Mia MIr also was asked to lay the foundation stone of Sikhs holiest shrine, Harminder Sahib. Any saint, of any religion is respected, because God is above religion, color, race. Sikhs are encouraged to read about other religions. And take anything that is good, but believe utmost in Guru Granth Sahib and IK Onkar(the ONE LORD) So, I have a question, how can u as a Cherokee believe that God is so limited he will send anyone to hell, who reads anything besides the Quran. What about ur ancestors, with their abilities to travel interdemensionally, how do they fit within this boxed view? We believe God sent all the prophets, (as chatanga stated before), but they all failed. Their followers made the prophets supreme, and forgot the lord and immersed into religious warfare and deeper into darkness of sin, corruption. India was drowning in this darkness, when Guru Nanak came, (u should read the bani that talks about the situation at that time, it is so relevant). You have trouble with God is Guru Nanak. because we do not believe god is a person. I'm going to try to explain, but please understand it is limited, and god is limitless, so this description will be inaccurate, because who can define the undefinable? Waheguru is like a prakash, a light, a energy, a consciousness, who exists within all of us, and everywhere within the universe: the planets, plants, animals. He is in every iota, every atom. And when he becomes one, he withdraws the whole universe into himself again. Of this huge, immense, endless being, with countless manifestations, he (u must realize now , how inaccurate it is to say use him or he to address God)is also the manifestation or avatar of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It is not like God had to come down from heaven and become small and ordinary to be Guru Nanak. The above was a limited view, others can do much better.
  10. someone ban Sherdil from this thread please, he's annoying, repetitive........ Mehtab Singh, u said there'd be monitoring going on....... any of u ever heard of personal attacks?
  11. Every human being is prone to error, therefore every rehit (even bujhar kurehits) have a procedure that allow us to be forgiven if we broke the rehit. From doing a japji sahib da paath and ardaas (for kangha, kara, kirpan) to asking the punj for forgiveness (bujher kurehit). So if we made a mistake we would ask for forgiveness, so why not save someone's life and ask for forgiveness? When going on airplane, court, we take off our kirpan, but to save someone's life we can't? I have heard for medical conditions, Sikhs cut their hair to have operations, then why not to save someone's life? Of course there are also courageous, imbued Gursikhs, who won't have heart operations (even though they need them), because there's only a certain percent of success rate (for example 68% of all bypass surgeries are successful, the rest die), and they are worried that the doctors will do beadbi of their rom (hair) and if they die during the operation, they will die patit. But if the success rate was 100%, they would ask for forgiveness. So as long as their's a chance that you can ask for forgiveness of the punj, it's okay to do it for someone's life. Also one of Bhai Veer Singh's Sakhis in Kalgidhar Chamitkar scares me : It's about a husband and wife devoted to puja of thakar (an idol), everyday they bathe it, sing for it, etc than eat. Well one day a wounded Sikh comes to their house asking for water. They had water in their hands and were taking it to bathe the thakar. They refused the Singh water saying, the first water must be used for thakur. wait here, when we r done bathing the thakar, we will bring you some. The Singh laughed and said, "What a heartless thakur u have. fine then u will never get darshan of thakar. never." and soon he breathed his last. The two finished the ritual bathing, but that day did not feel peace, and kept remembering the Singh's last words. Somehow (i forget) they came to Guru Gobind Singh Ji and became his Mali(gardeners), they did very good seva, and once when Guru Ji wanted to reward them and went to meet them, he stopped, and repeated, "U will never get darshan of thakar, never." and returned back. When the Mali and his wife heard that that Guru Ji was coming to meet them, but didn't, they were devastated, would they never be forgiven? (They eventually are, that is the greatness of out Guru) But after that Sakhi, I was scared that I might because of a bad decision, in which I put my selfishness first, like it's more important for me to keep my daily routine right, do irreversible damage. You can ask for forgiveness for rehit, but u can't change ur decision to walk away. Also rehit is to keep u steady in this world, it's part of this temporary world. Don't become so entagled in it, u forget the big picture. Waheguru, and how all are him, and he is all, so when u walk away, u walk away from him. What if it's a test? Also in bani, it talks about how god resides in all, and not to break even someon'e heart, and you're talking about leaving someone helpless and walk away, when you can save them? As long as the rehit can be forgiven, I think it's okay. Let the punj decide the punishment. Don't punish yourself by walking away. Even higher than truth is truthful living, true character. Doing the right, the good, the kind thing.
  12. of course it was consumed, during Ranjit Singh's time. What vice was left that Sikhs couldn't be accused of at that time? cowardice, running from battle (after Sham Singh Attari's shaheedi), to corruption, greed, If Ghulab Singh/Teja Singh/ Dhian Singh could be considered Sikhs then of course alcohol was consumed. The reason there's warnings in Guru Granth Sahib Ji is because Guru Ji knew it would be a temptation, even to Sikhs. (I know u stated above that it's not acceptable in gurmat), but your answer was a bit ambiguous and misleading. You made it sound like if it was consumed during Ranjit Singh's time than it's historical and okay to do it.......sort of like the Niddar's ppl.
  13. have sangat online: listen to inspriing kirtan, katha, talks online. one of my faves: and visit sikhi blogs, sikhnet, searchsikhism has really inspiring coming into sikhi stories, listen to audiobooks in english or punjabi.(rangle sajjan is an ebook, Se kenyha, Pyare Jio etc on ikatha.com)
  14. In the western year, yes they will come twice. For example, Guru Gobind Singh Ji's birthday will come in January 2013 and also December 2013, but basically it's still a year (12) months apart, but the difference of one or two months is caused because there is a difference between western and Indian months. An Indian month starts at the middle of the Western month. From what i've been able to understand...the old calender (made by purewal) was changed because the Indian era (bikrami) starts a bit earlier than the Christain era (AD), and when purewal tried to create the Nanakshai calender by making Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Birthday the start of the era , he didn't account for the difference in Bikrami and AD. For a more in depth look, watch these videos, they are from Gurudwara in America where ppl came from Dhumma/taksal to explain the controversy:
  15. Then it'll become another demonocracy like India. Imo, Khalistan's aim should be to be the best and freeist democracy in the eastern world. Then we can even show India, how it's done. Cause there is no good democracy in the east, (well maybe Japan...) but most democratic countries in the east are corrupt and have issues with minorities...
  16. http://www.sikhnet.com/news/what-chardikala This article tries to answer those questions. Is mostly anti-khalistan, but has good points.

  18. I don't know about running water. But yes, water is important in Sikhi. We also use water in baptism, and there is research done by some Japanese scientists that water has a memory.and it turns into beautiful crystals when reading prayers to it, and deformed crystals when cussing/anger is shown near it.

  22. Consider explaining to an alien race the reasoning and process for removing hair from women's bodies - whether that be by slicing it off with a razor, pulling it out by the roots one by one, pouring hot wax on it and ripping it out of the skin, or undergoing laser or electrical burning-to-death of the hair follicle I suspect that it's the removal, and not the presence, of body/facial hair on women that is the irrational part -From a comment on an article about Bhenji Balpreet Kaur.
