I don't understand what the problem is ??? If you cannot get to bed until 12am, then do you still have to be at work for 8 or 9 am ?? Does this happen 7 days a week ?? I have worked 16 and 18 hour days for many years but still manage to get up at 4.30am the latest, to do nitnem. The ideal method is to have 8-9 hours of sleep by getting to sleep at 10pm and then rising at 2.30 to 3am and doing nitnem and simran, then having a few hours sleep between 5.30 to 7.30am. - I find that you feel completely refreshed with the little sleep after the nitnem !!

It is ALL wrong !! You find dozens of simultaneous akhand parts going on at the same time in many gurdwaras. This is all wrong !!!! We have turned into a complete simple ritual !!! It is just like brahmin pooja, whereby you pay the pandit to do some puja for you whether you are there or not and you don't even have to listen to it!! There are quite a few arguments and shabads, especially a popular one by Guru Nanak ji about the torture a corn goes through in its food production process. The message from Guru Nanakji is that ALL of creation's lifeforms and vegetation has a life put into it by the Creator. My gurmukhi fonts are not working so I can't post any references. Like I said earlier, God has given you a brain and some logic to make up your mind and decide what you want to eat. There is no box and there is no right or wrong. Once you start following and contemplating gurbani, you will automatically get your god given 'Intuition' that tells you what you should and shouldn't do. We shouldn't disregard or speak lowly of others and that means the nihang jhatkaris. For them it is a serious and sacred shastar pooja act. This is the reason that it is carried out at Hazoor sahib and there is plenty of youtube material available if you want to check and confirm but Be-aware, it may be shocking for the faint hearted !!!

I used to wonder the same and think that if meat was allowed it would be served in langar, until someone pointed out that it is an issue of equality, fairness and hygiene seeing as extra precautions need to be taken for preservation of meat products. I was also informed that it has been served in history and that the above problems were encountered.

Don't be a veggie because others say, and in the same way don't eat meat if others advise. There are as many gurbani shabads that can be intepreted as for or against meat. However, gurbani advises you to use your god-given logic in helping you decide what you should eat. There is no argument that can deny that vegetarian diets are more sattivic and therefore better for increasing your spirituality. If common sense and your logic tells you that it is wrong to kill for food, then you should follow your instinct. Don't try to justify or defend your decision amongst others, as the world is split with this issue and it won't do you any favours. Another thing is that you shouldn't fall for the nihang sacred tradition of jhatka either! Because this itself is misinterpreted. The significance and reason for jhatka is NOT about killing to eat at all, it is about the sacred tradition of tilak and annointing weapons as part of shastri puja as well as the mental warrior factors involved. FACT is that the true nihangs are not supposed to buy or eat meat from sources where they have NOT been involved in the jhatka of it. This virtually means that any meat to be consumed has to be killed by jhatka by oneself and can't be bought from the butcher or supermarket..etc.....

I know this sounds silly. But the official akal takht maryada specifies that eating halal meat means you will be excommunicated immediately- meaning your amrit is broken andyou are no longer part of the khalsa. It is bad enough eating the meat, but to end up eating halal is the ultimatum !! If it wasn't halal, then it is a little less of a worry and i would check with the panj pyarey about ardas etc, but if you know it was halal, then you gotta pesh no matter what !

What you mention about khethi moves like 'fasaalan,lehrian, japaan, bedi, phull...etc..'' are ALL based on the working life of the jatt farmer. This is the very reason that no one has ever taken offence to bhangra being associated with jatts, because the roots of it are completely about khethi. In traditional bhangra music no one has ever taken offence about jatts being promoted or anything. Infact, the majority of the most popular folk singers that sang about the jatts dancing at the mela..etc.. were NOT even jatts themselves !!! It's the sad lot of today who are taking offence and going out making chamaar songs thinking that they have to match up, when really it's nothing about being better or matching up. -It' about the origins.

To ban songs on cast is knocking bhangra, it's not knocking music, Bhangra is associated and originated from farming,khethi, harvest time and jatts celebrating. It's because of similar put chammar de songs and what have you that there has been a sensible ban put on. It was never a problem or an issue before because like I say traditional bhangra/ jatts/ drinking n celebrating go hand in hand.
