ol, im surprised no-one has answered the question lohri well let us say why we celebrate it hindus firstly believe that this was the day that the father of prahlad (who was king of the world) tried to kill his son, bhaghat prahlad "har jug jug bhagat upaia, bhej rakhada aia ramraje harnaksh dusht har maria prahlad taaria" the story goes that he tried to kill his son in many ways, he tried to get his son to sit on some sort of log of fire, with his prahlads sister or the kings wife to sit on it. not sure what her name was. but she did alot of paath, she felt guilty and prayed to god, asking that her boon that she wouldnt die would be given to her son or brother or whatever he was to her ________________________________________________________________ that is holie (happens in march) ..she basically had a "vaar" from vaheguru and cud sit in fire or any condition with her "shawl" and not be burnt etc..but when she tried to kill prahlad vaheguru took the "shawl" of "holka"(that was her name) and put it on prahlad hence she burnt...but for some reason ppl started to chant out "holka" when it was her who was burnt < dunno what went wrong there - from holka (her name) came holie hope that makes sense sikhs also have there holie called holla malhla this was when singhs use to have practice battles against each other and the winning team would celebrate etc etc (something along them lines)

Buddy describe amrit vela to me when someone goes night shift and comes house at 7??? when is amrit vela???? I guess amritvela too you is passed when u have it at 1.... Guru sahib says Kirt karo, Naam jappo and vand kai shako... jarai bandai nai naam hee japee jana fair kirat kavai karoo??? And we All know badal and sgpc are messed... i am just talking about general.... nor am i takening there side.... in the sikh reyat maryada nitnem banis are Japji sahib jaap sahib and Swaiye and it clearly states that you can do more no one is STOPPING YOU!!!!! but to say it is mandotary is making your own maryada is whih is aganist shri akal takht sahib ____________________________________________________________________ if u are home @ 7 then do your 5 bani at 7..my point still stands that 1.5hours isnt going to hurt you...and honestly you are more likely to attain a "avasta" if you do 5bani then 3..its makes sense ya? Oh but your gonna say why not do 6 or 7...lol

blatisingh: somone could read as much bani as they can... If they dont got time like these sants to be sitting in the deras.... ordinary people doo kirat....They go to work come back and etc... Those banis are the minmums for a sikh and there is no maximum... Tell me what jobs do these sants do???? Where does the kirat come in???? G ___________________________________________________________________ maybe that is why guru ji made amrit vela...i mean what "work" or "kirat" is done doing at that time and it takes about 1.5hrs or 2hrs to do ur panj bani (at steady speed) i mean what is 1.5hours of ur life? + we all want to meet god yet umm no one wants to put in the effort i mean if u cant do 5banis how u gonna do abhyaas on bani? + You think sitting and doing simran/bani all day is easy...lol i guess maybe ur avasta is higher but i think i speak for everyone when i say "Doing kirt is easier then sitting down all day and doing simran/bani"

no it is not manmat......i knw sant baba nand singh said that if one could not understand haukmnama then they could do it via this method...but throwing it in water etc i am not sure about all i knw it was pick at random

it doesnt look good for sikhs to be going to the cinema. Doesnt matter above what movie etc your gonna watch + spiritually it'll effect your mind an you may just end up thinking about the movie during ur paath/simran etc

vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh i've read the posters about sant baba thakur singhs barsi...it says bhai thakur singh on the poster as one of the katha vachiks, can anyone please confirm for me if it is giani thakur singh ...hopefully no descriptions needed as to who he is ...also could veers/bhens provide information as to when hes coming and how longs hes gonna stay etc vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh

This is indeed a new trip but i think it was meant to be november/december ..but may of been re-scheduled

haha i dont think we'll find it online as umm apprently theres a picture well two pictures but kept at different places in india, one i think is at puchmandi (puchokalan).......but MAN i would so like to see them :> - also sant baba khem singh current sant at puchokalan = very very elevated soul, hope to see them when i go india

i think most people have over looked one thing; the requirements of sitting with maharaj. I cant remember them all so i'll recommend giani thakur singhs katha on jap ji sahib, in the first few parts he explains (using gurbani) who should and shouldnt sit on tabyia.
