The men were found guilty of multiple rape offences against a female victim in the Heckmondwike and North Kirklees areas. Raziq was sentenced to 22 years after being found guilty of eight offences of rape. Hussain was sentenced to 18 years after being found guilty of three rape offences. DCI Ian Thornes of Kirklees CID said: “The victim in this case was a young girl with a completely normal life whose childhood was ripped away from the moment she was first introduced to Khurum Raziq. “That contact led her to be being lured into a world in which she was thoroughly abused and exploited by predatory males who treated her in the most appalling fashion." He added: “We welcome the strong sentences given to these men and want to commend the bravery of the victim in this case. “By supporting a prosecution and giving evidence she has forced these men to answer for what they did and played her part in making it clear that those involved in the sexual abuse of young females will be brought to justice and receive lengthy sentences. “We continue to urge victims to come forwards and can promise all reports will be thoroughly and sensitively investigated.”

The bench of Justices Ramesh Sinha and Brij Raj Singh observed that the accused cops had indulged in a barbaric and inhuman killing of innocent persons by calling them terrorists. “Besides, if some of the deceased were involved in anti-social activities and criminal cases were registered against them, then too, procedure established by law should have been adhered to, to bring them to task and not indulging in such a barbaric and inhuman killing of the innocent persons.” The court listed the criminal appeal of accused filed challenging their conviction, for a final hearing on July 25. As per the prosecution case, on July 12, 1991, a bus containing passengers/pilgrims was stopped near Pilibhit by a team of Uttar Pradesh Police of district Pilibhit (appellants). They brought down 10-11 Sikh youths from the bus, boarded them in their blue police bus and some police personnel sat in the bus along with the remaining passengers/pilgrims. Thereafter, the remaining passengers/pilgrims kept roaming the pilgrims’ bus the whole day here and there with the police personnel and after that, the policemen left the bus in a Gurudwara in Pilibhit at night, whereas 10 Sikh youths, who were alighted from the pilgrims’ bus, were killed by the police. The 11th one was a child whose whereabouts could not be traced out and his parents were given compensation by the state. Initially, the investigation of the incident was conducted by the local police of district Pilibhit, and a closure report was filed by the local police. However, the Supreme Court entrusted the investigation of the incidents relating to the encounter to the CBI.

He left a note saying there had been a fight between them and he had hit her. Coventry coroner Delroy Henry recorded that Mr Badial unlawfully killed his wife before taking his own life. The couple ran the long-established Badial clothes store on Soho Road in Handsworth, Birmingham. Farewell note Mrs Badial's body was found in the living of their home on Kenilworth Road in the city on 29 June, the inquest in Coventry heard earlier this month. She had suffered a number of chop wounds to her upper body and limbs which were described as "defensive actions to ward off a bladed implement". A large billhook (a garden machete), was found by her body, along with a wrench, which was also used to hit her with, the inquest heard. She died of head and facial injuries. Mr Badial was seen on CCTV at the home to walk out of the house wearing blood stained clothes. He was found on a fire pit in the garden. His cause of death was from the effects of fire, the coroner said. A farewell note written by him was found on a chair in the living room stating there had been a fight between them. He admitted hitting Mrs Badial and that he would end his life for his family. At the time of their deaths, the couple's family said they had been "overwhelmed by your messages of love and affection for our dear parents". They said they were "keen supporters of good causes and committed members of the local Midlands community" and in India had also founded rural hospitals along with several schools and colleges for underprivileged girls.

Mr Slaven has now been stripped of his nursing licence by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) - ending a 22-year career for the former RAF man. The former nurse had worked at NHS hospitals in the past and mocked the founder of the Sikh religion Guru Nanak. Cambridge-based Slaven is understood to have qualified as a children's nurse in 1997 in Edinburgh. He racially harassed 'Colleague 1', a senior nursing lecturer, at Anglia Ruskin University for over two years between October 2016 and December 2018, the NMC tribunal heard. The offensive lecturer, who has worked at NHS hospitals across the country, claimed it was 'banter between friends'. Slaven told Colleague 1 'you seem to take all the religious holidays off, and even Christmas and that's not your holiday' and 'you lot, Sikhs, have all these religious holidays'. When discussing a charity appeal for toys for Sikh children, Slaven said: 'What Sikh Toys? Do you mean daggers, knives and swords?' He once stated: 'Me and Guru Nanak are best buddies, I know him really well and he said he'll be dressing up as Father Christmas this year.' He also once remarked 'Indians came to the UK in a banana boat'. Slaven admitted the charges but did not attend the hearing. A tribunal report said: '[The NMC] considered the misconduct to be serious because Mr Slaven was in a position of trust teaching future nursing professionals. 'He was required to be a role model for students and staff, and his behaviour towards Colleague 1 represented a significant departure from the standards expected of a nurse. 'Mr Slaven held a position of influence over future nurses. 'Colleague 1 expressed fear for 'ethnic minority students who could be unfavoured by him in terms of teaching'.' She reported the incident to police who recorded it as a non-crime hate incident. Cohen said that when she raised her concerns to senior Labour party members, she was ignored. Whatsapp messages were read out to the court in which Ms Cohen referred to Mr Mahmood as 'spiteful', a 'womaniser' and 'stupid'. She said some of the messages raised highlighted the ‘humorous banter’ between the pair. Counsel for Mahmood questioned why Ms Cohen should want to continue to work with the MP, she said she had hoped that he would improve.
