  1. It's very bad what happened to the man killed, not condoning it.

    @dallysingh101 and @jkvlondon - you're both from 'the Manor'/East London

have you heard of many other cases with apne being involved in drug trafficking so young?

Looks like he was in a mixed ethnicity crime group.

I feel sad for him, so young , life wasted . Prison will be tough given there are not many Sikhs inside, especially visible ones

    U missed one category.

Monaas don't claim to be true Sikhs but there are keshadharis who claim to be true Sikhs but reject the importance of amrit and punj kakaar.

Such keshadharis r more dangerous than monaas who ridicule sikhi Sarup.

You are sort of saying it's better to be either mona or Amritdhari. Many Sikhs are in-between

She might be a little misguided due to lack of sangat - don't forget she mentioned she lives in some town that hasn't many Sikhs.

As you know @dallysingh101young adults, esp females are very impressionable.

Have to treat people with respect and dignity to build brotherhood, and this applies to both monas and keshadharis, as certain ego driven people from both categories love to deride and ridicule the other.

From the keshadhari/Amritdhari side effort has to be made to not exclude and push away the monas. Then there are some monay who tend to show no respect for Sikhi saroop and undermine its importance with ridicule or even hostility.

What brings both categories together is loyalty towards Sikhi and devotion towards Guru maharaj. Sometimes what you have is a mona sikh who has excelled in so many areas of sikhi, like seva Simran, Gurbani path, virtuous lifestyle, that all they are really missing is the Saroop. And the flip side may be the case for a bekhi keshadhari sikh. So looks can be deceiving!

I also liked Gyani Takhur Singh’s approach. He always pushed for Simran,Shabad, Gurbani abhyiaas and never pushed for only the outer saroop. The gurdwaras were packed with monay and singhs, all sitting side by side and passionately doing Gurmantar Mool Mantar abhyiaas.

    Agree

Also, Giani Thakur Singh Jee does strongly emphasise importance of Amrit, consistently in katha and does occasionally chastise those who don't keep rehit

  5. I think @Jassuis interested in names without prefix or suffix, which is most most Sikhs have in their name, including me

I like those names as well, and I think she wants names which go against the current trend of more 'Hindu' names.

Btw, what does everyone think of naming a child 'Arjan' - I don't think we should have names based on our Gurus, Sahibzade or Panj Piayre.

And should think twice about naming after other important Puratan or recent Sikhs who most will struggle to be anything close to. I understand the parents' intentions when naming the child, but disagree.

I know many Christians (in non Anglo countries like Spain, Portugal, Africa) name their child after Jesus and Muslims name kids after Mohammed, but I disagree that Sikhs should do similar.

WASHINGTON—The Securities and Exchange Commission often picks its top cop from the ranks of Wall Street’s best defense lawyers. Its newest one hadn’t worked on a securities case in almost six years until he took on the job in July.

Gurbir Grewal became the director of the SEC’s enforcement program after serving as New Jersey’s attorney general for more than three years, during which he overhauled police use-of-force training and disciplinary transparency, spoke out against Asian-American hate crimes, and took personal heat for how state officials dealt with the coronavirus pandemic.

Transgender people should no longer have to live in their acquired gender for two years before getting legal recognition, MPs have said.

The Women and Equalities Committee said the requirement risked "entrenching outdated and unacceptable gender stereotypes".

It also argued that the need for a medical diagnosis before legal recognition should be scrapped.

The government says it is making the current system easier to navigate.

In September last year, ministers rejected making fundamental changes to gender recognition laws in England and Wales, following a two-year consultation.

Instead, they have said they are making the application process "kinder and more straightforward", including by reducing the fee to apply for a gender recognition certificate from £140 to £5.

Under the Gender Recognition Act (GRA) 2004, UK adults can legally change their gender if they meet certain criteria. However, many trans people have said they find the system intrusive, costly and bureaucratic.

Chelsea dentist jailed after threatening to pour bleach down wife’s throat

Chelsea dentist who threatened to pour bleach down his wife’s throat in their controlling and abusive marriage has been jailed for three years.

Dr Amandeep Goma, 39, rigged up the family home with cameras to monitor wife Sonia’s housework, threatened to slit her throat while criticising her mothering skills, and repeatedly struck her with household objects.

Goma monitored his wife’s text messages, kept a tight grip on her finances, and controlled the amount of interaction she had with her own children.

But Goma, who ran luxury dental clinics in Chelsea and Harley Street, was having an affair with a colleague behind his wife’s back. His wife eventually went to police in November last year, having endured escalating threats and violence during the first pandemic lockdown, and Goma’s lover, Nanki Kaur, also reported him for two violent assaults.

At Southwark crown court on December 2, Goma was jailed for two-and-a-half years by Judge Gregory Perrins, who said his abusive and controlling behaviour had been hidden “behind a veil of respectability”.

At Westminster magistrates court, Goma was jailed for a further six months for the attacks on Ms Kaur, including one where he tried to strangle her.

The court heard his Chelsea Dental Spa business is now likely to be sold in the wake of his convictions, while he is banned under restraining orders from contacting his now ex-wife and former lover.

Goma and his wife, who have two children together, had an arranged marriage in India in 2011 and initially lived with her parents in Manchester when they first moved to the UK.

Mrs Goma’s family were aware of problems in the marriage after they set up home in Earl’s Court, and Goma’s controlling nature intensified when the country went into lockdown in spring last year.

She told police how he had fitted cameras to keep track of her activities, and sometimes rushed home from work to confront her if he was unhappy.

Prosecutor Arizuna Asante said Goma “threatened to pour bleach down her throat” on March 24 last year when displeased with the standard of her cleaning. She reported being kicked, grabbed by the hair, and “repeatedly struck” by her husband, and on April 15 Goma “threatened to slit her throat”, the court heard.

Matters came to a head in November last year when Mrs Goma discovered her husband had been having an affair.

UK MP condemns Punjab ‘sacrilege’ & lynchings, after blaming ‘Hindu terrorist’ in ‘deleted tweet’

First female Sikh MP in UK, Preet Kaur Gill, put out fresh tweet Monday after being called out Saturday for tweeting and deleting about 'Hindu terrorist'.

PIA KRISHNANKUTTY 20 December, 2021 7:19 pm IST

Her statement came shortly after she courted a controversy over a purportedly deleted tweet in which she accused a “Hindu terrorist” of committing sacrilege.

An unidentified man was beaten to death at the Golden Temple in Amritsar Saturday evening after he allegedly attempted to desecrate the Guru Granth Sahib. Another person was killed Sunday morning by a mob at a village gurudwara in Kapurthala for suspected theft and attempted sacrilege.

Shortly after Saturday’s incident, Gill tweeted about the “awful scenes” at the temple and said no place of worship should be targeted.

On Saturday, screenshots had emerged of a purportedly deleted tweet by Gill in which she allegedly replied to an unverified video of the Golden Temple incident by saying: “Hindu terrorist prevented from an act of violence at the Sikh Holy shrine of Harmandir Sahib, (Golden temple) against Sikhs.”

According to Politwoops, an archive of tweets deleted by politicians, Gill deleted the tweet within seven minutes.

    ‘Hinduphobic’, ‘stirring religious bigotry’

Screenshots of the ‘deleted’ tweet have been circulating since Saturday, with some social media users accusing the British MP of being “Hinduphobic”.

One user called Kaur a “blot” who should be sued and forced to resign, while another said she is “stirring religious bigotry”.

Some users also called the politician a “Khalistani” who is “trying to flame the fires of separatism” in Punjab.

Poonam Joshi, UK and EU correspondent for ABP News, also criticised Gill’s tweet by saying police authorities are yet to ascertain details about the man who committed sacrilege at the Golden Temple and what his motive was.

Some users claimed the screenshot of Gill’s tweet is photoshopped as the dateline shows slashes.

ThePrint found that the format for dateline may appear differently depending on the device a person is using — iOS or Android. Also, it appears that she did delete the tweet because once a user clicks on the link, it prompts a message from the social media platform that reads: “Sorry, that Tweet has been deleted”.

    Terror attack on #FarmersProtest “pre-planned”

    December 15, 2021/in News /

The Lakhimpur Kheri terror attack which saw four Sikh men killed by a BJP Party affiliate was a “pre-planned conspiracy” according to a Supreme Court appointed investigation team.

The attack in early October saw the son of an Indian MP used a jeep to mow down dozens of attendees of a #FarmersProtest in Lakhimpur Kheri (Uttar Pradesh, India), killing at least nine – including four Sikh men, three BJP workers, a reporting journalist and a driver – and leaving more injured. Read more on the incident here.

The investigation team probing the terror attack have released a statement which said “the criminal act was deliberately done with the intention of killing as per a pre-planned conspiracy”. The statement was released to Indian media and is seen as a reflection of the obviousness of what occurred, given Ashish Mishra was waiting in his car whilst the protesters gathered, before driving it through the crowds. The statement will be welcomed by those contesting reports which were contrary to the many eye-witnesses, by claiming the BJP convoy vehicles sped through as a result of crowds attacking them. Claims the BJP workers and a journalist were killed by the crowds were also countered by many eye-witnesses, he saw the workers die as a result of the jeep speeding through crowds. Witnesses also reported hearing gunfire and there are claims the journalist killed on the scene – Rasham Kashyap – was seen being shot by Ashish Mishra.

The terror attack was reported by some western media outlet as violent clashes, regurgitating the Indian state media narrative to whitewash the massacre of peaceful protesters. Since the attack, a typically delayed response from Indian authorities saw Ashish Mishra, the son of Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra, arrested nearly a week after dozens of eye-witnesses saw him carry out the terror attack by driving a jeep through crowds of #FarmersProtest demonstration. Ashish has now been booked with charges of murder for which he will face trial. However, the Indian judicial system’s notorious delays are likely to be used to allow Ashish to be free for a prolonged period yet, as trial hearings are arranged and carried out. The same delays are weaponised against the likes of Jagtar Singh Johal, British Sikh detained in India for four years without trial.

Sikh Press Association Senior Press Officer Jasveer Singh spoke on the terror attack and the recent update, saying “The Lakhimpur Kheri terror attack is one of the most brazen killings of Sikhs and #FarmersProtest supporters seen in recent history. What happened is obvious and was seen by dozens, so it is only right any investigation reflects this. However, we hope western media outlets will also carry this part of the story, with many having covered it previously in an inaccurate way which only covered up for the state linked terror attack.”

Updates on the criminal investigation into the terror attacks continue.

I just returned to Canada from visiting India after that country reopened to tourists after November 20 and one of the places, I visited was the Central Khalsa Orphanage in Amritsar. Even though the institution is a Sikh orphanage for boys, it does admit orphans regardless of caste, color, or creed. The orphanage director told me that around 4% of boys who are admitted to the Central Khalsa Orphanage are non-Sikh, Non-Punjabis from other parts of India and abroad. One of the four percenters that I met was an 11-year-old Russian boy named who was brought to the orphanage at the age of eight. He told me a Sikh businessman who was living in Russia arranged for him to be sent to the Central Khalsa Orphanage after he was being abused at the orphanage he was living at in Russia.  I asked him if he suffered from any culture shock after being admitted to the orphanage and he said he did. He said that after he arrived, he was greeting by a bunch of Patka wearing boys who wanted to be his friend. He was shocked when he was told he will have to look like them and that he was no longer allowed to cut his hair as long as he lived at the orphanage.

Why did you decide to visit the orphanage? Most of us here never heard of it, so thanks for signposting

What other foreign orphans did you find out about ? Were they treated well ?

The due date is fast approaching and Jagmeet Singh shared photos of Gurkiran Kaur holding her baby bump with the sweetest message for the mother to be!

On December 16, Singh posted two photos on Instagram that he took of his "glowing" wife smiling and cradling her bump while wearing a flowing white dress from her clothing line jangiiro

"You're going to be an amazing mom and I am so excited for this adventure," he saiSingh also revealed that he and Kaur are expecting their baby to be born very soon!

"I know any day now we're going to welcome a wonderful new addition to the family," he said.

This isn't the first time that the soon-to-be father has shared photos he's taken of his wife. Once he even posted a behind-the-scenes shot of him snapping pictures of Kaur and said it was his application to be an Instagram husband.

So, the way he ended off his message to Kaur about their growing family is not really a surprise.

"I just want you to know, that no matter what, I will always be your photographer for life," Singh said.

Though, he did thank Kaur's sister for helping him out with the photos.

what we should do is make one central gurdwara for multiple neighboring pinds to go to. Similar to what we have here in the west. This means more sangat is constantly coming in and out. This will drastically reduce the beadbis we see in the villages as most are empty.

Depends on pind size also. I don't think someone who goes to a Gurdwara within 5-10 mins walk now will want to walk 30 mins
