  1. Just got back from the workshop! I've never been to any of those workshops before. It was pretty good, I was impressed. If you're wondering, I was the girl who made the story contest announcement in the end. I was sitting at the second table from the front, all alone, by myself, cuz no one else would come with me. :glare: Was anyone else from these forums there? Just curious.
  2. I think everyone has beautiful qualities to them...
  3. I found this on Wikipedia.com, and I thought it was kinda interesting: ...Belief in the Force is a pantheistic belief, and one real-life religion that bears close resemblance to the Jedi Order is that of Sikhism. Sikhism also advocates the presence of one 'God' who is ever-present and binds the universe and all its entities. As the Jedi use lightsabers, the Sikhs use a Kirpan that they carry with them at all times. Like a Jedi, a Sikh may never use his sword or other combat skills to attack anyone out of selfish desire (i.e. Sith-like qualities are banned) and must use it only to protect others. The Sikh philosophy is merely one of peaceful co-existence, but at the same time they are to never accept any form of tyrannical rule and to protect others from such evils. A Sikh who has taken the oath of the order is no longer referred to as a Sikh ("learner", "disciple" - equatable to a padawan), he is said to be a Khalsa ("pure" - equatable to a Jedi Knight/Jedi Master).
  4. Woah... creeeeepy. (Waheguru, Waheguru!) Btw, have any of you seen the Emily Rose movie? Oh, and do Sikhs believe in this kind of stuff?
  5. Argh, I hate bhangra, no offense to those of you who listen to it... it just doesn't sound good to me - like, AT ALL. But Hip Hop does sound good. Okay, yeah, I'll admit that most of it's some pretty 'evil' garbage preaching nothing but trash to pollute young ones' minds... but there are some songs that are worth listening to. Like this one: Where is the Love? By - Black Eyed Peas That is my favourite song in the universe. It's so amazing, you just have to listen to it.
  6. I don't think we can call them Sikhs, if they're as bad as that. Maybe one time they were, but once they go down that path I don't think they can possibly represent our faith anymore. Personally, I don't like to worry about these things. I worry about what's gonna happen to the poor kids that have left their Sikh faith, but I don't want to worry about what's going to happen to our religion. Sometimes I do, but then I start thinking... why? What's the point? It's all in God's hands, and His plan is perfect. If our religion is meant to prosper, it will, but it's all up to Him.
  7. Warrior Princess II by Harjit Singh - this book has got some really good stories and poems based on stories of Khalsa women. Awesome book, really well written - plus there are some cool little illustrations. Lost in History: 1984 Recollected by Gunisha Kaur - this book really goes into depth about the 1984 massacres. I couldn't put the book down, it was shocking all the information the author found. I guarantee if you read this book there will be information in there that even the most educated on the '84 massacres didn't know.
  8. What's the Sikh United? Well, the organization I'm helping to run the Sikh story contest under is called the Guru Gobind Singh Children's Foundation. (www.ggscf.com)
  9. But isn't it a part of our code of conduct to do seva? Personally I would encourage non-amritharis to get more involved with Sikhi and doing seva.
  10. Thank you so much. It's really hard to get enough people to know about the contest because there are only two gurdwaras near where I live where I can put them up, so I appreciate it so much that you're willing to do this seva.
  11. That's so great! Well, here's the information (sorry it took so long) Do you like to write? If so, now is your chance to do something worthwhile with your talents. Just write a story based on any event or person from Sikh history in less than 3000 words, and submit it to sikhstorycontest@# for a chance to get published in an anthology. Deadline: December 10th, 2005. For full contest details, visit our website: www.sikhstorycontest.cjb.net You are allowed to change the wording around, just as long as you give the same information. Thanks a bunch for your interest!
  12. Waheguru je ka Khalsa, Waheguru je ke Fateh. As some of you know, I'd posted here before to ask for help with making buttons for my Sikh Story Contest (which, by the way, I've posted all of on the website for anyone wishing to link back.) But I'll need to ask for help again. We desperately need more publicitiy for the contest if it is to be a success. While my friend and I that are running the contest have done as much as possible to publicise the contest, there is no way that enough people know about it at this point. We need LOTS of help - two fourteen year-olds can't pull this off alone! That is why I'm asking the sangat to help out by making posters and posting them at their local gurdwaras, or wherever else that would be appropriate. This would be greatly appreciated, and if anyone is interested I will have the information to put on the poster posted by tommorow. You can also help by 'advertising' the contest wherever you can, however you can- if you can tell ppl, or email ppl about it, that'd be great. You can also put up a nice little link button on your website (click http://sikhstorycontest.250free.com/linkback.html]HERE[/url].) Or if you can get our website onto a search engine, that would be sooooo wonderful. Any help at all would be great. Thanks for all your support in this, Paneet
  13. Sure. So while she was riding and thinking, an idea struck her suddenly when...
  14. Paneet took one, look at the Singh and said... "Sure, I have I like 50. Would you believe I got 'em from Winners?" lol
