  1. If there were opportunities for white guys in the west to come to Punjab for marriage, those girls in Punjab would be lining up for miles. I think is a larger issue at hand than just being in the west though I think there are some things we have to face up to. The longer we are in the west, the more we are going to have a lot more in common with the goreh. A third-generation or fourth-generation Sikh in the UK is going to have a lot more in common with a gorah than a Sikh who has come from Punjab. We go to school with goreh, we are brought largely in the mainstream culture, we will have the same interests, we go to the same places for holidays/vacation, we even support the same football teams. There is going to be a lot more to relate to.
  2. What you are saying is correct in an idealist sense but we have to face reality. The underlying current amongst our sangat is that even a "nominal " Sikh who cuts hair/smokes/drinks should have some loyalty to the Panth. A smoking /drinking non practising person of Sikh background marrying another smoking/drinking non practising person of Sikh background is still better than a Sikh marrying out of the faith. In the UK, our Gurdwaras have their matromonial services. I remember many years ago going to the Southall Havelock Gurdwara to register a relative to their services. You have to fill in one of these application forms and I remember filling in one of these forms and it has asked whether the person drank. I asked this question to one of the girls at the counter and she told me "it's best to be honest with these things". There does need to be a sense of pragmatism unfortunately in these matters.
  3. It has nothing really to do with how well or how badly a woman is treated. What we are witnessing is the unshackling of the controls put on society and women are showing unrestrained parts of their feral nature. What we are beginning to see what women are really like out in the open, it is no longer hidden. If it really was about "misogyny " then women would be the biggest misogynists.
  4. Like it has mentioned before white men have been going for non white women because they believe they would have more traditional values which they cannot see with their own women. However there is very little difference these days between a women of colour in the west and a white woman. Even a woman coming over from the East to the west are quick to pick up the worst of the "western" habits. At least with a western /westernised woman you know what they stand for than the clandestine intentions of women from the East. There is not real difference between a western /westernised and an Eastern woman. The only difference is that western/westernised women is more open.
  5. gut health has taken more prominence over the years. The gut is seen as a second brain and there is research that suggests that conditions such as altzheimers starts in the gut. Just wondering if having dahi and achar helps with gut flora. I know that sauerkraut and kimchi is supposed to be good for the gut but wonder if achar does the same.
  6. As per usual, our openness and tolerance is seen as weakness for others, and they take full advantage.

  8. Is it any wonder that Hari Singh Nalwa advised Maharaj Ranjit Singh to pass the Khalsa Raj to the panj pyareh. It makes perfect sense.
  9. This is what happens when there is no fathers at home. The Afro -Caribbean community in the UK like the African American community have had governments push welfare in the 60's which has resulted in large increase in single mothers and children born out of wedlock. These feral youth have no strong patriarchs at home. They are largely brought up by their grandmothers. This is what happens when you destroy the family.
  10. How is it anything with our people according to the BBC is a "taboo subject" I hear the BBC have another exclusive. They have discovered that water is wet.
  11. Thanks. What I say may not be popular with members of the Sangat but it is important to look at these statistics critically and to interrogate thoroughly. Look at the ground realities and see if these statistics are congruent with what is going on. I think our Panth can be quite naive and take things at face value. Our way is to look at things from all angles so we can get a better, fuller picture. Only then are we able to ascertain what needs to be done.
  12. Oooh look at you ...waitrose. .how very posh ?? Just kidding!
  13. I agree with JKV. Now I will probably get some confused emojis for this.
  14. I do have scepticism. Some of what I say may be anecdotal but I believe it does have some validity. For example, Italy has a serious demographic crisis and their TFR is like 1.2 or 1.3 That is only 0.3/0.4 less than what is stated as Punjab's . How much a reduction in TFR causes issues is anyone's guess.
  15. I would believe it if I can see the consequences on the ground with my own eyes that confirm what is on the census. The problem is that there are inconsistencies in my opinion. If there was decrease in childbirths/facilities you would hear from maternity wards that there are less kids or even from midwives that they are not delivering as many children. School places would be empty because of the lack of kids being born. You would see a decrease in funding in childhood services if there are less children. There are so many things you would see as a result of below replacement fertility.
  16. Not only family, friends, villagers and townsfolk. No Punjabi family has only 1 child if they can help it. We don't have a one child policy like China, that is why think it is hogwash. It is definitely higher than 1.6. It is just a blanket number. There is no breakdown to how they came that number and how they skew that statistic.
  17. I have to disagree with the 1.6 because that would mean that Punjab has a fertility rate on par with western countries. There are also plenty of non NRI people getting married so I do not buy into that. There is no shortage of brides or bridegrooms with all the palaces and hotels telling us otherwise.
  18. Firstly, when I go to Punjab the average Sikh has 2 kids or more. I don't know how they come to this 1.6 fertility rate figure. I dispute that figure. Secondly, even though the muslim fertility rate is coming down (and that is due to them educating their women), even educated Muslim families still have higher fertility rates than the rest of the population. Thirdly, I dispute the fact that Ravidassia are "oppressed " . If Dalits behaved like Ravidassia they would open their own temples and not even bother with the cash and prizes they receive from christian missionaries. If anything Ravidassia are empowered. Nobody has stopped a Ravidassia going to a Gurdwara and do stuff that a normal sangat member does. Where their issue is with the power grab issues that a tiny minority within their community want. Like all politics.
  19. This won't help the Hindus either: https://qz.com/1232399/siddaramaiah-vs-yeddyurappa-karnataka-gives-lingayats-and-veerashaivas-the-status-of-a-religion/
