  1. what does jatha mean? sweet sikhi are a group of people and you would call a group a jatha. When a group of keertani or raagis do keertan you call them a jatha. What would you call them?
  2. Would a muslim be allowed to marry a non Muslim? Would a Jewish person be allowed to marry a non jew at a synagogue? But non Sikhs should be allowed to marry in Gurdwara, in hazoori and do laavan of Guroo Sahib who we say is living Guroo? Doesn’t make much sense does it. Thought not!

  19. I'm not sure. I know when you apply for uni if your household income if under a certain amount then your local LEA will pay for your tuition fees but beyond that I belive they will only give you an extra £1000 on top of your student loan. I belive this is seperate and can be usefull to many students. I my self haven't applied for it but if I can help anyon I shall try. Its well worth applying for stuff like this as i know esspecially in London Uni is really expensive, travel alone can cost in excess of over £30 a week.
  20. Vaheguroo jee ka khalsa vaheguroo jee kee fateh You might be interested to know that there is FREE money available to quite a few students upto a maximum of £3,500 per academic year. Most students at some point will have heard of the 'hardship fund'. This was re-branded the 'Access to Learning Fund' [ALF] a year`or so ago [it may be called something slightly different at every Uni]. Each Uni is given a few £100k per year [dependant on student numbers] to support students financially. I know (as a former member of an ALF reward committee) that every Uni is struggeling to give the remainder of thier money away - if they don't distribute it they have to give it back to the Department for Education & Skills (DfES) at the end of the academic year. Needless to say they are desperate to give the money away, they are looking for anyone who meets the criteria of the fund. It is a bit too lenghty to go into detail here but the general concept is that any student with children or dependants & students with disabilities are highly likely to receive an award (none repayable). Then any student with an overdraft or 'priority debt' will most likely recieve something also (none repayable). A priority debt is either rent/mortgage arrears or a debt secured against your home NOT credit & store cards. The form takes about 30 minutes to complete and requires you to provide details of your income & expenditure (don't worry if you have more coming in than out as they disregard any part time work - if you chose to work you should not be penalised for it). The fund also omits some types of expenditure mainly things like mobile phone bills & internet costs as these are not deemed 'essentials' - basically they do not reward students who CHOOSE to have an expensive lifestyle. Even though it is near the end of the academic year they can, in some cases, back date payment to the start of the academic year. They also have a sub-fund called the Summer Fund that allows students to apply for finincial support through out the summer (this only applies to students continuing thier studies on the same course in September - i.e. if you have just finished your undergraduate & are starting you post-graduate in Sept unfortuntley you will not be eligible even if it is at the same Uni). The forms, with completion guidance, are available from every student finance office & student advice centre. Most Unis also have the form available to download from thier website. I can't stress enough go pick one up & fill it in - they do ask for photocopies of three months bank statements as evidence so don't lie too much on the form! I would seriously apply even if you think that your not that bad off as like I said they are desperate to give it away. DO IT, NOW!!! -------------------------- Please also forward this to your friends at uni maybe give them a helping hand. There are alot of students shelling out hundreds of pounds each week for Uni especially in London so take time out and apply as it can only make life easier. :umm: Vaheguroo jee ka khalsa vaheguroo jee kee fateh Ravjeet Singh

  25. I think best books on this are Bhai randhir singh jees books also last years khalsa camp was a brilliant insight into life after death etc. we go through many life forms before we are blessed with form of a human. Gurbani talks of churasi lukh joon and in this life form depending on our past action basically we are reeping what we have sown in the past. now ths life form we are here sowing for our future we have the choice to be blessed with amrit and naam. by jaaping naam, reciting gurbani we are able to wash away our sins of past and able to sow our future. this is our time to meet our ultimate aim and become one with vaheguroo
