  1. well.... wht i ve listened in katha about mala simran ...i didnt find any contradiction regarding its use and moreover most of our gurus used simran mala quite frequently .......
  2. wow....40 lbs is a whole lot of weight dude......he could do well in health industry....or aerobics or something
  3. dude.... it depends on the type of school ur gona go for.....eventually that would make a lot of difference based on sikh student population like mines already got a sikh student association ,.... its decent out here........ most segregated schools are sort of orthodox in such approach.........
  4. cool... i know this for sure that running does help... wonder how much weight did he lose eventually? :gg:
  5. now thats more like a discussion, im sorry i did start to read but i began to loose the will to live as it was soooooooooooooooo long :BL: Has it? take a look at yesterdays generation, like my parents where you will see Punjabi more than a sikh...........but todays generation..............is it realy Punjabi influences or more "western" traits that are the dominating factors causing people to give up/loose/abandon the SIKH identity? Now this is just my opinion............but where someone cannot have his own identity he look to the world to find one he can fit into................identity is based on many things......culture i do not think is a big dominating factor as much as it used to be............back in the 70's/80's where the gurdwaras would be full of "white hankies" and Gurjit Singh bacame known as "Garry" or "G" or "Jim" Indentity comes from inside ourselves...........SIkh teaches us to find who we REALY are......Man Tuh Joot Saroop Hai, apnah mool pashaan........Culture is nothing but a lable we affix ourselves to when our OWN indentity dissapears............. This is happening where by a gursikh referred to another as AKJ, Taksali, Nihang etc etc rather than, thats my brother/sister..................these "groups" are nothing more that punjabi like cultures in order to gain an identity for oursleves...........a way of recognition............because the inner search has failed us. When you can see waheguru in yourself, you cannot see waheguru in anyone else.... so in conclusion...................Sikh and Culture are two very different things.........sikh teaches us to move away from society/caste/social status and recognition and look upon all as equal and the same.............Culture...................again is nothing more than a method of segregation and isolation............where the first thing we are doing, (whether it be on a sub consious level) is looking at our diffrences to others and building our identity based on these differences.... bhul chuck maafi thanks bro for an honest opinion.... i really appreciate it...... to be honest i consider both the elements to be distinct and theres no way we can combine them ....... about identity i think there are lot more social, religious, political, economic, personality and family circumstances that affect us in each and every single way in shaping in what we are and what we would be in the near future..... i respect ur opinion .... thanks again and I THINK SINCE THE DISCUSSION IS GOING KINDA TOO FAR ..... I AM GONA TAKE THE POPULAR OPINION AS "ITS UNFAIR AND UNJUSTIFIABLE TO SAY THAT BHANGRA IS PART OF SIKH PHILOSOPHY "....... bhul chuk maaf
  6. hmm..... seems quite plausible to me though..... the actual reason why the thread was started is to discuss the issue that punjabi culture has influenced many aspects of our life but does it make any sense to conclude that our identity should solely be based on our culture or sikhism has a role in it?....hope tht wud clear things up...... bhul chuk maaf
  7. well...my point was say as an example if a white guy who has been interested in sikhism and has done a good amount of study on our religion through guru granth sahib ...... how would you justify the bhangra and sikhism relationship .......? bhul chuk maaf..... I am really glad that you guys turned up to discuss the topic as am trying to work on a research based on sikhism and current issues that are affecting us today ..... i really appreciate each one of you for doing that :WW: ......
  8. gurfateh bhhenji.... welll if u really believe tht ram chander was just a mortal being like any other being at that time..... then why not those other beings were able to do what he did both as killing the most notorious being on the planet and establish a well known peaceful reign during his time at the throne......now am not propagating that we should just start worshipping him.... i believe that akal purakh is unlimited in many ways so if undermining one of his powers then why believe in akal purakh? .......
  9. haha...thas not one of the most uncommon things you would find in India.....but yea i really liked the atmosphere at the time i was there......i mean it was more like something that i never witnessed before......most above of all its said to have also been influenced by many great gursikhs who are said to be founding fathers of such institution....... gursikhs like sant baba teja singh ji inspired by sant baba attar singh ji mastuane wale......
  10. could be true.... coz my cousin moved from baru sahib to his hometown in ludhiana like four or five years back...... but wt i know is that they have produced some good dhhaadhi jathes.......
  11. well i was listening to giani thakur singh ji's katha for the very same verse and way he described it was tht these lines are the proof from guru granth sahib point of view that makes it necessary for all sikhs to have dastar
  12. awesome.......these guys know what they are doing and they totally are worthy of such respect..... :WW:
  13. actually its awesome... one of my cousins used to be there so we used to go to see him like once or twice in a year ...... its located between beautiful mountainous landscape and the main focus of the school is to ensure both gurmat and academic education.... which makes the school amazing and unique in a way that many of the baru sahib students are still recognized around the world...
  14. THANK YOU!! for makin me realize of being unfair in my approach But wicked do you think that if we were to represent ourselves in front of a non sikh person who might have done a comprehensive amount of study in guru granth sahib and tell him if theres any relation between the two?
  15. Oh, please!! You're from New Jersey and I grew up there. Don't embarrass the Garden State with such baseless comments, bro. If you ever want to talk in person, like at Bridgewater Gurdwara, a place full of "Jatts", just let me know! By the way, you would never make a comment like that infront of "Jatts" in person, am I right? Yeah, you've offended me greatly with your stupid racist remark. People like you are a waste of time because when it comes to having discussions in person, you won't admit these types of things. It's easy to hide on the internet, isn't that, right, "njjassa", or whoever you are. Enjoy your comfortable cyberspot! ok.... i agree tht i was being sort of a racist but does it have anything to do with where am i from or anything like that... i think not.... my point is that jatts are the majority class in sikhs and their representation of sikhs in the world means a lot to all other non-jatt sikhs in the world...i hope u wud agree on that......but i still apologize for being unfair and biased in my approach....didn mean in any way to offend anyone...... just concerned about what i ve witnessed and the type of experience that i had so far ......
  16. I ve to agree with that.... statistically not only "jatts" are the biggest majority in sikhs but also they have found to be involved amongst most notorious things prohibited in sikhism... I guess they justify their actions on basis of their number in sikh population and in some or the other way they think themselves part of "popular culture"......... and this fact has nothing to do with being racist because its what we all see on daily basis and most above of all its against the concept of sikhism .......
  17. There have been many instances outside punjab where we as a sikhs have gotten confused with this issue and probably have found ourselves in disrespecting many of the gurmat traditions pertaining to this topic. How would you justify such actions?
  18. can we have anything in this world without a controversy? :umm:
  19. amazing.....inspiring....encouraging......certainly a "will-booster" amazing.....inspiring....encouraging......certainly a "will-booster"
  20. thanks for the advice veer.... i really appreciate it :WW:
  21. hey i just wanted to know like is there a way by which i can just put up some online voting or polling system over here coz i saw couple of those things at here...... :WW: wjkk wjkf
  22. well sitargirl i would have to say to u "lucky u" and the reason why i say tht is coz i myself jus happened to be a sophomore at my uni and of all the kesa dhaari singhs i have seen they dont really have dastar on em and i think am the only one so far with dastar and secondly the thing about the clubs i used to hate tht place but i dunno why i feel tht its better socializing at a club rather at a gurdwara coz we disrespect the maryada when we start talkin in a gurdwara in front of Guru Granth Sahib ji i totally agree with ur viewpoint but the thing about amritdharis ... there are some good ones and some bad ones so would u think it would be wise to generalize all of em being phony and out of picture of the sikhi? I'll take that as a compliment but you must have noticed that I don't break yours down - purely cos you forgot to mention you drink. Thanks for the breakdown. I tend to go to all sorts but mainly the hiphop and bhangra ones.....Just so that you know the breakdown really doesn't change anything cos what I say still applies. In all honesty I prefer bars to clubs cos the 'chat' actually happens there but since I don't drink its a complete waste of my time...on the rare occasion I do meet ppl who I stay friends with but not cos I chatted to them at the place but cos of talking to them afterwards. In terms of music contacts I did happen to meet this guy who randomly came up to me and asked if I played anything and wanted to do a merger....but those ppl can be met via other places. I tend to now prefer music concerts....less tiring on me and better quality in terms of musical talent about.... I do think this is an important thing cos amritdhari ppl are justifying their actions in terms of sikhi etc. Please go if you want but don't put sikhi into it.
  23. wow thas surprising no response by anyone?
