  1. also watch out for groups of people which use the term gursikh for leaders and in a Sant equivalent. Also Bhai Sahib is becoming more common, actually Dhadrianwaley used to be a Sant Baba and the changed his title to Bhai Ranjit Singh. I have no doubt there were bhai sahib leaders during Guru jis' times, but even this term is being abused probably for a century now. Who knows, there's possibly other terms for various groups leaders and holy men as well.
  2. referendum votes happening on Friday December 31st, from 5pm - 11pm in the UK.
  3. cool video and I need to spend sometime going listening through it. I think it's our own sikhs such as the sikh panthic leaders who are dismissing the contributions of sikhs and the Gurus. At the moment, it's more common to see a keertani lugging around a heavy harmonium than carrying an instrument carried by warrior Singhs during war such as the dilruba, or the Rabab which Bhai Mardana ji carried around on his journeys with Baba Nanak. At the moment, the evidence is, when I go to the gurdwara, whether in Punjab or uk, usually we will see sikhs playing keertan in harmonium, and sometimes not using any Raags either. Or they might be trying to play in "simple tunes" which is a word that seems to be a go to argument, I have heard keertan sung to Bindrakhiya tunes, and also the sikh equivalent to christian rock.
  4. at the moment, we are relying on other people becaue we are not trying enough. let's strive for change with chardi kala!
  5. of course, but not enough Singhs are trying to do this. I have seen Raj Academy, Jawaadi Taksal, Baru Sahib and Singhs interviewed on Mardana Project. Even with all those organisations and groups, it's still a small minority inside the visible sikh panth.
  6. I heard about the Mirasis that visited Harimandir Sahib, no idea about the ones who perform keertan in Pakistan. I am not willing to gloss over these facts. However I am also not willing to gloss over the facts that Singhs aren't trying much to preserve keertan maryada, whereas there are mirasis and naamdharis doing so...
  7. very nice. If I remember and get time, I feel like posting part of this in TikTok
  8. true, so why not instead us sikhs try to preserve the maryada ourselves instead of relying on others?
  9. I really recommend watching Mardana Project youtube channel. They actually go and meet some muslim keertanis, and I think some of them are Mardana's descendants. Some of these muslim murids are actually keeping Raag maeyada maryada which nowadays even Singhs are too lazy to keep and may even become argumentative over!
  10. ok, but I mean Singhs and amrit-dharis, not mona nutters like these who can't tell the difference between a Sith and sikh. And you don't really need archery training to operate a crossbow!
  11. I think this is correct. I think I have even seen an old fresco in some gurdwara, if I find it I might post it.
  12. ok but I am talking about sampradaiye which were recognised. I know the Damdami Mehta Chowk Bhindra Taksal links themselves to Baba Deep Singh and maybe Bhai Mani Singh, but I am talking about samprada which were recognised and written about in the history books as well as oral tradition. It's shocking to see the taksal are threatening against Gobind Gita, wouldn't expect it from them. However Singhs/sikhs within Nirmala sampradaiye are also scholars and teachers of Santhiya, and some Sants come from this sampradaiye as well, and Nirmala sikhs would welcome Gobind Gita and prachar. It used to be normal to listen to Nihang Singhs as the voice and commanders of the panth, as opposed to listening to less rehitee sikhs. However, with SGPC, it seems to have become about listening to scholars and those who think they know better and start their own sects, than actual rehitee Singhs! Nihang Singhs already have pahul ceremony for Singhnis, and it probably exists all the way from Guru Gobind Singh.
  13. nice video about Guru ji's teer. However, I really recommend the sikh sangat should be learning archery. I need to find a place to start learning archery again since I used to before the pandemic. I guess they will do more exposure for our community as opposed to the deep spiritual parchar which is required to capture peoples' hearts and minds.
  14. probably best to edit your original post and fix it so people aren't confused Remember that panthic sampradaiye have been sidelined and forced undercover during the Singh Sabha movement, just so that organisations like SGPC could take control. I call those panthic, though they don't seem to be recognised by the current SGPC associated panth, but they were recognised and blessed by Guru Gobind Singh as well as being recognised by Dal Khalsa panth. Now the panthic definition seems to be used in a corrupted way, used more for those jathebandi/organisations which are associated in an alliance with SGPC and their rehit maryada, and less for those associated with traditional sikh groups such as the Dal Khalsa fauj +puraatan rehit and also those groups forced undercover.
  15. absolutely, we need to be careful when people take the word of those they call gursikhs over the word of the Guru. There are blind people who justify going against bani or cutting out bani, or criticising puraatan rehit, just because according to these people great gursikhs did the same!
  16. I know you are joking but metflix is actually a site for the london police. Might make a good training video for the police? ?
  17. this is an amazon original, so unsure how this is on netflix as well? unless you watched a different version?
  18. after conversion, the Romans brought in their Gods and adapted them into statues which fit into Christendom. Maybe the roman catholic God is supposed to look like Jupiter, and also they have statues for Mary and Jesus, and probably made other Gods Saints. And they brought in their festivals and christianised them. Easter is the festival of some ancient God, and Christmas is set on the same day as an old winter festival, possibly winter solstice.
  19. @californiasardar1 you need to point this negativity towards sikh saroop towards the right outlets and expose them, maybe make a tiktok and insta specially for this stuff for North America. In the uk we nee to do the same thing, such as gurdwara matrimonials allowing the pakhand hyprocisy against sikhi saroop
  20. I believe in Texas you are allowed to carry swords, but double check this. A Singh is supposed to wear a full length kripaan sword really. The small kripaan is a compromise which was brought about during colonial times, and is actually a similar size of a kard. So I guess a pesh kabz or kard can count as a replacement in places where you are only allowed to wear small kirpaan, but generally we are supposed to wear big kripaan, and should do this wherever we are allowed to!
  21. you should see some of the arguments people have had with me on here when trying to promote raag keertan over their own "personal" styles. Have been equally getting resistance from one sikh whatsapp group. Most of the excuses I get are, that Guru doesn't put importance in needing to sing in Raag, and that those sikhs who argue with me that keertan can be done in "simple" tunes, although I am kinda confused how sikh Rock can be considered simple tunes! ? A total shame that it is not discussed enough, and the importance is not seen, and sikhs will even downplay by saying Gurus did not put the importance on singing in Raag. The worst thing is, you will see sikhs in turbans and even in bana just doing their own tunes or making arguments against me for talking about Raag, yet you will see Muslims that are Mardana's descendents trying to preserve gurmat keertan vidiya all the way in Pakistan. ...have we all become lazy or is it some political agenda from deras, cults, sgpc etc???
  22. to be honest I can't even see her kara, looks more like a common bangle in scenes where she is wearing one! probably wouldn't. Although maybe in the chaos we could take advantage of it for azaadi ?
