The following is my personal opinion. Not based on any maryada, granth or samprada:  Gurbani will always be enough. But some people to help control their mind will use other sciences/disciplines.

For example if a study came out saying aromatherapy was really good for your health and mental wellbeing, I am sure some sikhs will start doing nitnem with essence of eucalyptus wafting in the room.

Similarily, during the time of hardships, fighting the mughal empire, sikhs should try to use anything that would give them an edge over the mughals. Anything that woukd help them improve. Nihangs and sikhs were surrounded by the yogic sciences/disciplines. Like ayurveda saying bhang keeps a person cool in the summer heats and battlefield. Havans help concentrate the power of a mantar 10 fold as the mind wonders less if it can stare at the fire.

Also did the Gurus want us to stop these havan etc rituals because 1. They didnt work or 2. They did work but were being misused or 3. They trapped people in the superficial not allowing them to go beyond rituals into self reflection? Or 4. These rituals were used to worship entities other than Akal purukh.

If its 2,3, or 4. Easily fixed with gurbani and vichaar. If its 1, then we gots to elevate sikhs slowly but surely.

So lets not be like the muslims, this is an idol lets smash it. Its forbidden. Even if its 1000s of years old. Its too dangerous. Some uneducated villagers might be influenced to adopt it as a ritual. And think its part of the religion. Lets codemn it strongly. These ppl are heretics whoever engage in it.

People used to say sikhi is against yoga. It is against using yoga to unite with God  (as a spiritual practice) but not as an exercise regime.

    Thanks for your insightful explanation.

Waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki Fateh

Gurpurab di lakh lakh vadiyan veer ji.

something that you would actually use on your hair , like argan oil, olive oil , I would add a few drops of lavender oil to preventive moulds/yeast and to help keep dandruff at bay . Warm the oil to about hand warm then submerge the kanga leave for least four hours or just leave overnight , wipe off excess oil and start using .

    Thankyou so much ?

  3. At the end of Brahm Kavach, we read the last line of dohra goes "paatth sava laakh havan kar jeet jung tab hog". At a basic level, it seems like it means "when you do 1,25,000 paatths of Brahm Kavach along with the Havan, you shall be victorious in the battlefield". There are videos of Nihangs doing just this. But I've heard as per SGGS ji, Havan is not in line with Gurmat. Why do Nihung Singh light the fire? Someone please reply and dispell my doubt. Thankyou.

Sat Shri Akal sariyan nu to the reply of @Khaaik I feel everyone here have faith and live life accordingly Gurubani. Here is a explanation of @khaaik question. For more reference you may check the youtube link. I think Thakur Dalip Singh has valid point. We should serve to our own people(Sikhs) first, then we should serve to the rest of the world. Our Sikh community is getting shrink day by day because lack of the money, if we can't help our brothers or sisters when they are in need then who gonna help?

Why christian community is getting bigger and stronger? Have you ever seen this community doing social service to other community? Have you ever seen them donating food, money, providing other things without converting into christian? Have you? @Khaaik

  5. While I agree and don't like the fact that the Indian establishment treats Sikhs as cannon fodder and we should excel in other fields too, but we should still recognize the bravery of our fellow Sikhs who lost their lives. This article briefly talks about the testimony of Indian soldiers, who described the fight of the youngest slain soldier, Gurtej Singh (22), and how he fought the Chinese valiantly, killing 12 of them.

  6. Why is it that most people criticizing Indian urban Sikhs are the ones that don't even live in India? You won't have to face the consequences so it's easy for you to say all this stuff sitting on the other side of the globe, living a decent life.

Things are not much better in rural Punjab either btw. Most of the Sikh youth cuts hair, assumes English sounding names and dreams of abandoning Punjab instead of improving it. Their lineages too, may some day criticise native Indian Sikhs instead of contributing positively to the cause. You can't just point out the shortcomings. Solutions are what we should be focusing on instead of pointing fingers amount ourselves.

What about the Hazur Sahib painting? Its in one of the puratan Dasam Granths or Sarbloh Granths and the Singh showed us it and said its the original painting of Guru Sahib. The bog version you see hanging inside Hazur Sahib is a replica of the one of saw in one of the puratan birs shown to us.

Could you please share an image of this painting?

What do you mean? Were there Sikhs in need at that time that the Khalsa Dal were bypassing? You are clutching at straws trying to look for examples of a Khalsa Aid type work during the 18th century

Bro I wasn't implying anything just genuinely asking. I'm here to learn as well. I was agreeing with you.
