  1. On a practical level and as your not from an Asian Background (so wont know how to make 101 veg curries) Iceland have a good Lacto-vegetarian range like burgers, pies, pasties, Vegetaran Cheese etc. Tesco does veg sasuages, veg mince, etc. If your local store doesnt stock it...internet shop it! Check out your local Holland and Barrats...can get things like Mayonasse, vegan ham, bacon, veg roast etc. The range in western food available is massive. And most produce is GM free, has less saturated fat and more protein than your average meat.
  2. And also Ahmed Shah Actually crossed the Indus River in 1748...with intent to invade and loot; this was the first time he sacked Lahore (1748); so how was 1756 his first attempt at conquering India? Okey now I know a dimwit wrote that above. P.S sorry admin for ruining thread...maybe a new one can be created? I was once confused by RSS propaganda (and Im not just saying that because they are the ones that promote the view that Maratha's got all of India independance from Mughals and that Sikhs were just by-standers!)
  3. As for Shivaji who basically got Marathan Empire going; the stories vary but every crediable Historian agree's that the Brahmins for certain did not accept him...some say he payed them to crown him, others say the Brahmin put the tilik on with his big toe...and this was at a push. Nevertheless for even the crowning to go ahead They had to Fabricate a story that he was Kshatriya Decendent from the line of Ranas of Mewar; wether this is in line with Hindu teachings or not I dont know...but everyone knows that the Brahmins kicked up a fuss...no-one can deny that.
  4. Okey this is Impartial view from reading History. When Abdali first invaded India he crushed the weakened Mughal Administration (Maratha's and Sikhs took out the Empire in thier respective areas) and his sole reason was to sack delhi and loot its treasures (this is where sikhs got involved which led to attack on Harmander Sahib in 1757 by Abdali and so forth) but anyhoo a void was left in Delhi and the expanding Marathan Empire filled it and disposed the puppet left by Abdali, they took Delhi in 1758...sikhs had no problem with this as they were actually dealing with Abdali taking Women and Treasure back to Kabul/Lahore and already invaded Delhi. So from the years 1747-1759 it was sikhs mainly protecting Punjab and fighting the Afghan invaders. Now Obviously Abdali hated the fact that Hindus were now ruling a former Muslim City and he wanted money etc...so in January 1761 the Marathan Empire and Abdali commenced a war "Battle of Panipat" the Sikhs were not involved. This was a battle of two Empires and even though Marathan's outnumbered Abdali's Army they were crushed. The Sikhs and Marathans did have a peace deal, and it is true that the Marathans may have driven back Abdali in short spells BUT they always retreated when Abdali himself came to loot Punjab, they only pushed Abdali back in a sense they claimed Punjab. I mean the above article claims Marathans took Abdali out in 1756? then how did he manage to attack Amritsar in 1757? Martha Empire took control of Punjab in the wake of Afghan withdrawal caused by Sikhs. Maratha Confederacy collaspased after the Rajputs and and Suraj Mal quit the Alliance and after the Battle of Panipat in 1761 they didnt recover. Sooo with the Hindu Maratha Empire out the way, Abdali launched an Invasion on Lahore and Amritsar again in 1762 which were now Sikh strong holds....he succeded but Sikhs took control again in 1764. It was essentially Jassa Singh Ahluwalia who freed Punjab and actually caused Heavy defeat to Abdali's forces to the extent he never recovered. Check Wikipedia for Ahmad Shah Abdali and Maratha Empire. Soz for waffling. I like history :awesome

  8. No there wasnt, that question was posed to the sevadars and they said there was no rule or anything in place where at a Temporary loaction a Sachkand was needed. Just as someone has Guru Ji in thier homes for a couple of days there isnt usually a Sachkand either...
  9. She's doing kirtan at Havelock Rd gurduara on Sunday, Sept 9th at 12:30 pm. Is this the Bibi from America?
  10. Wow! Hindus support khalistan? Are these Indian/Punjabi Hindus? I have a hard time believing this. Hindu Punjabi Brahmins, Hindu Gujarati's, Hindu Tamils, Hindu's from Fijian orgin, Hindu Iskcon. I dont see why its so hard to beleive!? Obviously there are Hindus out there that dont beleive in Khalistan movement but if we werent so hostile and actually talked to Hindus we would find that many of them support Sikhs in their struggle.
  11. Whats your point? Why would Hindus support Khalistan, when they got Hindustan,I believe the slogans were not anit hindu, are you refering to when the sangat was chanting 'Hinduan Nall Nai Rehna Bolo Hinduan Nall Rehna,Khalistan Hai lehna Khalistan Hai lehna ,Hor Zulam nai sehna Sangato Hor Zulam Nai sehna. The slogan "Hindu Rehay Na Koiiii" I would class as Anti-Hindu. I dont know if you are aware but Hindus themselves are fighting for independance in different parts of India. Just because someone is Hindu doesnt mean they havent got a conscious...just like there are sikhs and Muslims that dont support Khalistan there are Hindus that do support the concept; you cant generalise that all Hindus have the same political or even religious views.
  12. I would just like to add that many Hindus Belive in and support the Khalistan movement, Most of my hindu friends do...In fact more of my hindu friends support it than my sikh mates A group even came to the Annual Khalistan protests but went home early due to the anti-hindu slogans being shouted :D

  18. I find that people who buy these idols usually follow a mixture of Sikhi and Hinduism, They place Hindu Gods and Gurus on the same Altar and pray to them, IMO people who are just Gurdwara goers dont buy such idols but uneducated people who frequent both Mandir and Gurdwara think this is an acceptable way for them to worship. This espically happens in Inter-faith marriages from what I have observed.
  19. So can I ask what is in the orginal text? Also in What context is Baba Adam viewed then?
  20. We have Hindu made idols of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Baba Deep Singh Ji openly sold in the UK. They even have little Altars built for them in Mandirs. Sikhi is truely being hijacked.
  21. baabaa aadham ko kishh nadhar dhikhaaee || He bestowed His Grace on Adam, the father of mankind, http://www.sikhitothemax.com/page.asp?ShabadID=4140 What does this mean? In what context do we put adam in sikhi? is this the same adam as in adam and eve? I hear some Sikhs refer to the founder of mankind as Baba Adam!?! Im very confused.
  22. Going on a Rambling trip with Guru Ji would be a mission and a half!
  23. Such a Familar story! Right, if she needs to get out and her family is Psycho then she needs to leave the City she resides in atleast, Get her to contact Karma Nirvana (Derby/Stoke..Number 01332 604098)...they can provide shelter for her, if not any womens Refuge will do but desi ones are better cos they know how to handle such situations. Once she is there she has to lie low for atleast a year (2 years if family are really psycho). She dont need money to go to a womens Refuge, they will help her there financially/educationally/Mentally, but make plans so that the refuge knows she's coming cos sometimes these places are pretty full. Here's the webpage for womens Refuge, they have a help-line also. http://www.refuge.org.uk/ Is she is gonna do this its gonna be hard, espically if she has a psycho family trying to track her down but she has to be strong
  24. I thought there is evidence that he got to Istanbul (Turkey); some Tablet or something stating his name? Also in response to Jii no country in China was named after Guru Ji but a few villages were...other than the visit of Guru Nanak Dev ji these villages were cut off from Sikhi and so they dont tend to wear Dastaar unless going Gurdwaray in West...they tend to look like hippies with long following hair.
