  1. Well its exam time right now so its understandable that things would be difficult. I am sure during the year there must be times that its easier? Try and do your 5 bania, amritvela is the time according to gurmat, but atleast do it whenever you get up then. I think listening to bani when there is no bani in written format is not that bad, hwoever as you are growing your hair, why dont you start wearing a patka or even dastar full time? Just make sure that whatever sikhi things you are doing now, you don't stop them, only ever increase all the good things you do. The more sangat you do and keertan you listen to the better. Just do alot of ardas again and again for what you need, be patient and don't lose faith, even if it feels like hes taking ages to answer, just constantly keep doing ardaas. Also, one thing you can try and do is, while studying, say to yourself that every hour you will take a small break to do a few malas/few mins of mool mantar/simran,etc. when you get a break do some simple jaap instead of anything else. It will atleast be away to keep you connected to Vaheguroo Sahib Jeeo.
  2. According to pratan maryada there was no anand karaj before amrit sanchar, i.e. amrit sanskar must take place before anand sanskar, this is the pratan Guru maryada which has only been violated recently. Therefore anand karaj before amrit sanchar cannot ever be fully in accordance with Gurmat for anyone. And then of course for anand karaj both the singh and singhni must be amritdhari only. This should help greatly in interpreting the hukamnama, based on this maryada, in my mind the hukamnama is telling you to take amrit now and then get married to a chardikala amritdhari singh. Talk before marriage is just talk, they may agree to amrit now and say they will do it after marriage, but after the marriage is done how do you know for sure they will then go through with it? You would get taken down as well. Read more here: http://gurmatbibek.com/forum/read.php?3,5046,5046 In terms of finding an amritdhari, I am sure with Guru Ji's kirpa it is no problem, one thing you can do is get panj singh to do ardas in guru mahraj's hazoori (lareevar saroop if possible) and ask for the person in your sanjog to become pargat. also http://akj.org/skins/one/matrimonial.php offers a service for gursikhs.

When daas was blessed with amrit I remember panj saying its ok, just dont eat anything until you are wearing ur kirpan again and do ardas to maharaj for forgiveness saying that there was nothing you can do. they cant make you take your turban off, but i suppose if they want to search u u have to agree, just make sure its in the most respectufl way like going into a private room ,etc.
  4. self edited Please note as of june 2011 daas Uttam Singh (Singhstah) is no longer associated with the Mata Sahib Kaur Sikh Academy
  5. There is no doubt that Dhan Dashmesh pita had more than one mahal and this should not be questioned at all, however to say in that Sikhs in general had no problem with polygamy is incorrect. What Guru does is one thing what Sikhs can do is another, marriage for Sikhs is only one spouse at a time. ਏਕਾ ਨਾਰੀ ਜਤੀ ਹੋਇ ਪਰ ਨਾਰੀ ਧੀ ਭੈਣ ਵਖਾਣੈ। aykaa naaree jatee hoi par naaree dhee bhain vakhaanai. एका नारी जती होइ पर नारी धी भैण वखाणै । Having one women as wife he (the Sikh) is a celebate and considers any other's wife as his daughter or a sister. 3 ਵਾਰਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ : ਵਾਰ ੬ ਪਉੜੀ ੮ ਪੰ. ੩ (Bhai Gurdas Vara)
  6. We have it pretty good here in England for these kind of issues so it may be a good idea to look at what British Sikhs did in the 60s/70s, eg. the case of Mandla v Dowell-Lee (schoolboy fighting for right to wear a dastar in school) which recognises Sikhs as a seperate ethnic group due to the special rights we require as a result of our unique customs and needs. There was also the campaign to allow Sikhs to ride motorcycles without helmets which resulted in an exemption for Sikhs under the relevant legislation.
  7. contact sevaa@akj.org they may even be able to organise one for you

  9. ***POST ON BEHALF OF A FRIEND**** A Singh is planning on making an animation on the events of 1984 to inform and educate the masses. The animation will be freely available to all. It will cover the assassination of Indira Gandhi and will include speeches of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale (with subtitles). The creator is very concerned that he does not put anything incorrect into the programme so the sangat's input is needed. This thread is for anyone to make any suggestions regarding what should be included in the script, from start to finish. So please post any ideas to help towards general awareness of 1984. Thanks
  10. Would it be possible to elaborate on that point in bold just a little bit?
  11. We are not here to help Guru Ji, Guru Ji is here to help us, any thing which stops us getting this help from Guru Sahib is wrong, therefore stopping people from entering Guru Ji's darbar just because the only way they could sit is on a chair would be very wrong. I think a lot of issues would be resolved if we saw Guru Sahib as living SatGuru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj. If Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj is holding a darbar seated on a takht and a disabled individual longs to see Maharaj will he throw them out because they cannot sit on the floor? To insinuate this is more of an insult than anything else. Lets not make things mystical, we sit on the floor to acknowledge Guru Sahib is higher than all of us, humility, so that there are no specially reserved places for anyone and to show no one in sangat is higher or lower than anyone else. Lets really ask ourselves if someone sitting on a chair because they absolutely cannot sit on the floor is in violation of any of these things. bhull chukk maaf

  14. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12071424 By Pallab Ghosh Science correspondent, BBC News NEANDERTHAL Hunter, gatherer, vegetarian masterchef? Neanderthals cooked and ate plants and vegetables, a new study of Neanderthal remains reveals. Researchers in the US have found grains of cooked plant material in their teeth. The study is the first to confirm that the Neanderthal diet was not confined to meat and was more sophisticated than previously thought. The research has been published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The popular image of Neanderthals as great meat eaters is one that has up until now been backed by some circumstantial evidence. Chemical analysis of their bones suggested they ate little or no vegetables. This perceived reliance on meat had been put forward by some as one of the reasons these humans become extinct as large animals such as mammoths declined due to an Ice Age. But a new analysis of Neanderthal remains from across the world has found direct evidence that contradicts the chemical studies. Researchers found fossilised grains of vegetable material in their teeth and some of it was cooked. Although pollen grains have been found before on Neanderthal sites and some in hearths, it is only now there is clear evidence that plant food was actually eaten by these people. Continue reading the main story “Start Quote We have found pollen grains in Neanderthal sites before but you never know whether they were eating the plant or sleeping on them or what” End Quote Professor Alison Brooks George Washington University Professor Alison Brooks, from George Washington University, told BBC News: "We have found pollen grains in Neanderthal sites before but you never know whether they were eating the plant or sleeping on them or what. "But here we have a case where a little bit of the plant is in the mouth so we know that the Neanderthals were consuming the food." More like us One question raised by the study is why the chemical studies on Neanderthal bones have been wide of the mark. According to Professor Brooks, the tests were measuring proteins levels, which the researchers assumed came from meat. "We've tended to assume that if you have a very high value for protein in the diet that must come from meat. But... it's possible that some of the protein in their diet was coming from plants," she said. This study is the latest to suggest that, far from being brutish savages, Neanderthals were more like us than we previously thought.

  18. I know that personally I couldn't wait to go to dastaar from patka. I used to see singhs in dummalle and wanted a dastaar just like theirs. The key to this is having young role models for kids to look up to, they will naturally want to imitate them.
