  1. Gurfateh jeeo, With Maharaj's kirpa I have been offered a place on the Undergraduate ParliaMentors scheme for people of faith/belief. The scheme provides participants with mentoring from a Parliamentarian, team work with people of other faiths and the opportunity to carry out a large scale project. I was just wondering if any other Sikhs accepted on to the scheme might be part of the forum? I'm really looking forward to it. My only concern is catering as there is a residential induction but I am hoping they will let me take my own food and store it in a fridge, *fingers crossed*. You can read more about the programme here http://www.threefaithsforum.org.uk/mentoring/
  2. i agree, upinder randhawa should continue as main presenter, and others they bring in now they should try to get atleast a few turbanned singhs/singhnis, it will help in the long term with all the non-sikhs watching.
  3. Got home from my local gurdwara at about 2:00 am last night to find everyone (non-sikhs) going absolutely crazy for sangat tv! the amount of praise sikhs are getting for what they did in southall and sangat tv's coverage of birmingham and southall is amazing. At about 2:00 am last night there were about 9 new tweets every second mentioning sangat tv. I was very pleased when the southall presenter took note of this and started talking in English about who sikhs are and not to mistake us for others. I think Sangat TV now needs to be VERY quick to produce good English speaking shows on Sikhi. Please get presenters and panels fluent in English and knowledgable in Sikhi, preferably youth and please get some in full bana also, and just talk about Sikhi and sikh spirituality, but gear it to a non Sikh audience. Shows like aatam gyaan and Discovery are the PERFECT types of shows Sangat needs to show right now. Please plan this very carefully and be fast to get this programming up, preferably by this evening! They will stop watching Sangat Tv soon. It shouldn't be too hard to get a few knowledgable, english speaking youth together to talk abit about Sikhi. Please be quick, even on twitter now people are sayiing they are watching, but obviously haven't got a clue whats going on. edit:also should try to show videos of white and black sikhs. I have tried to phone sangat tv but they are not picking up (understandably), if anyone from sangat tv is reading this please please take these suggestions on board. If anyone has contact with sangat tv please pass this on. Thanks, another pat on the back to Sangat Tv, Upinder Randhawa, the Southall presenter whose name I have forgotten, and all the crew on the road last night.
  4. Sadly its not uncommon for kesdhari punjabis to be doing this but in that particular photo the individual is wearing a keski/gol dastar which is very surprising.
  5. Well that is only the view of the exhibition organisers that there was such a relation to the aforementioned religions in the first place. At the end of the day the only aim of these people seems to be to undo the great work of the Singh Sabha Lehar.
  6. This is just an attempt by snatanists to try to raise doubts over the singh sabha movement.

  8. Veerji/Penji are you saying to do ardas so that these amritdhari employers stop carrying out bad business practices?
  9. Our Guru is here right now, not a figure of the past. Anyone who joins with the shabad guru and has taken khande di pahul from Panj Pyare is a direct disciple of the Satguru. That is all the lineage needed. Ironically, the above can't really be said for udasi who don't even take amrit and grow jatta (dreadlocks), how they can be considered more authentic Sikhs than anyone Amritdhari Gursikh from any jatha be it 'modern' or whatever is beyond me. Udasis use idols and pray to shiva. Not all Nirmale even take amrit, or if they do they don't wear all kakkars such as a Kirpan, and they are more joined on to Vedas than Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj! Sevapanthi I don't know much about except they did not even used to take khande di pahul until modern times, this can not be gurmat. I do know that they do now take khande di pahul which is great. Nihangs do jhatka of goats and drink copious amounts of bhang- I think that says it all, there is no way either of these are from Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. Not to attack nihangs but there are MANY different thoughts in Nihang maryada that are unbelievably against Sikh teaching. Eg. in amrit sanchars so called lower castes are given amrit SEPERATELY from so called higher castes. There is no way this can be traced back to Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Actual elements of puraatan gursikhi rehat actually from Guru Sahib which are greatly lacking in the above are larivar saroop of bani, sarbloh bibek rehat, these were both indisputable elements of puratan gursikhi. If someone claims to trace back to dashmesh pita and does not have either of these than that claim is either extremely questionable or simply that their might be a link through people but the practices have certainly changed from what Guru Sahib gave. So when these groups claim that through a line of people they are traced back to Guru Gobind Singh Ji, what is more important to see,is do the practices carried out by these groups trace by to Guru Ji? Do they act according to Gurbani or do they do something else? Forget lineage of people, see if the actions are Gurmat or not, regardless of group. What is called a 'modern' group may be practicing more gurmat than anyone else if they have joined themselves to Gurbani, naam and the rehat they were blessed with by panj pyare.. Remember in the 19th century it took a new group, the singh sabha movement, not these 'old' ones, to save sikhi from being enguled into hinduism.
  10. my suggestion would be to hold an akhand paath at your house, preferably with a lareevar saroop of guru granth sahib ji maharaj. have high avastha, rehatvaan gursikhs do the paath, if possible have keertan done at your house by similar gursikhs, and have a panj gursikh ardas for removal of all problems. jaaps of any paaths like sukhmani sahib and jap ji sahib followed by ardas are also a good idea. also all your family should wear sarbloh kare and kirpana and do nitnem and ardas everyday. ang 817-818: ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ Bilāval mėhlā 5. 11. No they are not long gone, the instigators are in fact being given top political posts with luxurious pay and high security (tytler, sajjan kumar), while others have been given captaincy of the indian hockey team (kp gill). Since when is justice, i.e. asking the law to do its job and prosecute the guilty, the same as revenge? This "2nd and third generation" you talk about is the generation that falsley kept Balbir Singh Bains in prison for five years, are the cause for the torture and death sentence of davinderpal singh bhullar, and the ones that keep the thousands of innocent sikh men picked up in the 80s in jail to this day without trial.
  12. Not really a valid comparison considering brit asia is a music channel and islamic channels are religious channels. It's not just Sikhs on brit asia and the like but all others inlcunding muslims. How about comparing the Sikh Channels to the Islamic Channels- What you see then is liberated, equal and empowered females as opposed to oppressed women banned from self expression.
  13. Jews have actually achieved justice yet the world is always reminded of the holocaust, through documentaries, movies books, memorials etc, and rightly so. Not a single person has yet been prosecuted for dehli november 1984 yet you are saying we should forget about it before we have even resolved the issue. The same injustices that took place then continue to this day. You can't forget about something that isn't even over.
  14. I don't have access to them, but as per another forum "Panth Parkash and Twarikh Guru Khalsa by Giani Gian Singh, Shaheed Bilas and Gurdwaray Darshan by Giani Thakur Singh and Poem by Dhani Ram Chatrik" all state Baba Ji fought with his head on his hand, i.e. head was totally seperated from body. It would be great if someone with access to any of these could post up the exact text. Either way, there is no doubt in my mind that Baba Deep Singh Ji fought with his head fully separated from his body. Some of these 'logical', 'scientific' people people say the neck was cut so that the head was still attached but leaning to one side, I don't see how they find this more reasonable than fighting with the head fully separated, no normal human could carry on fighting/living if their head was attached to the neck by abit of skin.
  15. Does not the concept of a God break every law of the physical world? Or of Satguru Ji knowing what is in each of our minds? Or what about Ardaas and Hukamname from Guru Granth Sahib Ji? To most people it looks like we are asking for guidance from a book and getting an answer by opening random pages. If you read the article you would see that the answer to your question is not magic but naam. If you read bani you will see that it was through the power of naam that this whole world (and all of its 'physical laws') was created. Naam created everything, this naam can also alter everything. This world is not real, it is maya, the only truth is naam. Falsehood (this world and its physical laws) have no bearing over someone who is one with naam (the truth).

ghurreeaa subhae gopeeaa pehur kunnu gopaal All the hours are the milk-maids, and the quarters of the day are the Krishnas. gehunae poun paanee baisunthur chundh sooruj avuthaar The wind, water and fire are the ornaments; the sun and moon are the incarnations. sugulee dhuruthee maal dhun vuruthan surub junjaal All of the earth, property, wealth and articles are all entanglements. naanuk musai giaan vihoonee khaae gaeiaa jumukaal O Nanak, without divine knowledge, one is plundered, and devoured by the Messenger of Death. 1 Guru Sahib tells us in this Shabad by Guru Nanak Dev Jee, one will only cross the world Ocean through divine knowledge, without divine knowledge one will be plundered. How do we receive Divine knowledge? Divine knowledge can only be gifted Gurmukh through Guru Sahib, through ones past Karam and profit of Naam. One has to Japna Naam Athai Pehar (24/7) without any Worldly thoughts in ones head, and one will be guided by Guru Sahib himself throughout ones life. One will have no need to read books, search for Gyaan etc, as all the Gyaan is within us, but we are not aware or as close as to ourselves as we should be, this is why we act according to our own Matt (mind), and not Gurmat (Gurus teaching). We will become Gurmat only if the Shabad has been lit within through Guru Sahib, this will help us realize our innerself. punddith vaachehi potheeaa naa boojhehi veechaar The Pandits, the religious scholars, read their books, but they do not understand the real meaning. an ko muthee dhae chulehi maaeiaa kaa vaapaar They give instructions to others, and then walk away, but they deal in Maya themselves. kuthunee jhoothee jug bhuvai rehunee subudh s saar Speaking falsehood, they wander around the world, while those who remain true to the Shabad are excellent and exalted. 6 (Ang 55 ) In this ShabadGuru Sahib explains that the Pandits have so much knowledge through reading the Vedas, Puraanas and many holy books, but their mind is still polluted through Maayaa (worldly entanglements), they give Gyaan to others yet their own minds are filthy. Gyaan will only be received through the blessings of Guru Sahib. har kaa jun har jul kaa meenaa har bisuruth foott murai The humble servant of the Lord is a fish in the Water of the Lord. Forgetting the Lord, he would dry up and die. 3 (Ang 1263) When we forget Guru Sahib for only a second we will suffer just like the Fish suffers without Water. As Manmukh we will not realize this suffering, the suffering will always be with us through emotion and vice, we will never be happy and content, happiness will only last for seconds. Through Naam it will last life times. Daas has read very little books the very little Gyaan Daas has, has been gifted through Guru Sahib and Naam. Our mind will become relaxed at peace and poised through Naam, this is when we are gifted Gyaan and realization. bhrum mehi soee sugul juguth dhundh andh The whole world is asleep in doubt; it is blinded by worldly entanglements. kooo jaagai har jun How rare is that humble servant of the Lord who is awake and aware. mehaa mohunee mugun pria preeth praan The mortal is intoxicated with the great enticement of Maya, which is dearer to him than life. kooo thiaagai virulaa How rare is the one who renounces it. churun kumul aanoop har sunth munth The Lord's Lotus Feet are incomparably beautiful; so is the Mantra of the Saint. kooo laagai saadhoo How rare is that holy person who is attached to them. naanuk saadhoo sung jaagae giaan rung O Nanak, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the love of divine knowledge is awakened; ਵਡਭਾਗੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ॥ vuddubhaagae kirupaa the Lord's Mercy is bestowed upon those who are blessed with such good destiny. 4139 Guru Sahib explains in this Shabad how the World is suffering through Maayaa, one will only be purified through the Mantra of Guru Sahib. Guru Sahib says in Sangat Divine knowledge is awakened, as one is in single-minded concentration of the Naam whilst in Saadh Sangat. Through this concentration one will be blessed with the knowledge of Divine. Single-minded concentration needs to be Athai Pehar (24/7). We will be gifted Gyaan in many ways through Naam and Guru Sahib, one thing we should never do is ignore the inner Gyaan Guru Sahib has gifted us. Sometimes we ignore this Gyaan coming from Guru Sahib and Naam, thinking it is our own Man matt (filthy mind). One will realize true Gyaan, as this Gyaan will feel 100% right in ones mind, one will feel steadfast, one will realize the Gyaan is true, as the Gyaan will be very positive, keep us humble, and it will be for the benefit of another. This Shabad explains it all. This Gyaan through Naam will bring us to the Avasthaa (stage) of Sehaj (Nivaana). One will feel untouchable by the World, but on the other hand one will be very humble. This Gyaan will help us get through all worldly affairs in Sehaj, without the mind wandering. One will feel like a Lion, as Guru Gobind Singh Jee said, as one would feel Guru Sahib is always close at hand, but one will always remain Nimaana (humble) to Guru Sahib and his creation. saadh sungath bho bhaao sehij bairaag hai Fear (of God) and love (for mankind) being diffused in the holy congregation the sense of non-attachment always prevails. gurumukh sehij subhaao surath s jaag hai By nature, the Gurmukhs remian alert i.e. their consciousness remains attuned to Sabad, the Word. mudhur buchun aalaao houmai thuaag hai They speak sweet words and they have already expelled ego from their selves. sathigur math puruthaao sudhaa anuraag hai Conducting themselves according to the wisdom of the Guru they always remain imbued in love (of the Lord). pirum piaalae saao musuthuk bhaag hai They feeling fortunate quaff the cup of love (of the Lord). brehum joth brehumaaou guaan churaag hai Realising the light of the Supreme in their mind they become competent to light the lamp of divine knowledge. anthur gurumuth chaao aliputh adhaag hai Due to the wisdom obtained from Guru they have unlimited enthusiasm and they remain untouched by maya and the dirt of the evil propensities. vIh iekIh cVwau sdw suhwg hY ]ñó] veeh eikeeh churraao sudhaa suhaag hai In the context of worldliness, they always conduct themselves in a superior position i.e. if the world is twenty, they are twenty one. Bhai Gurdaas Jee has shown the amazing qualities of a Lion (Gursikh) in this Shabad. People in general will realize this amazing character and quality in one and usually tend to share their problems, as Guru Sahib says in Baanee one will always suffer through this filthy mind which has not been purified through Naam. Their desires will leave them suffering through stress and depression, their mind will never be content, and they will never find peace and happiness, as they have not realized their coming and going in this world, and above all they have not realized Guru Sahib and Naam. The amazing thing is when people in general share their suffering with a Gursikh who Japs Naam, they will always walk away contented, as the Gurmukh will give them the perfect cure through the words of Guru Sahib and Naam. This is the power of Gyaan (divine knowledge). gurumukh saadh asaadh saadh vukhaaneeai Gurmukh accomplishes the intractable and hence is called sadhu. gurumukh budh bibaek bibaekee jaaneeai Gurmukh has such wisdom, which is competent to separate water from milk. Bhai Gurdaas Jee explains the Gurmukh being different from every other being in the Universe, as the Gurmukh is blessed with loving devotion by Guru Sahib of Naam. Divine knowledge will only come through Naam and Guru Sahib, why waste time let us change the face of the Earth through the teachings of Gurbaanee and the loving devotion of Naam.
  18. Sorry for not getting back to you earlier. As far as I am aware there is only one standard width for dumalla material, but some people cut the width in half once they have bought it. I have never come across shops selling half width before... best bet is to confirm with the shop if the material is "full width". Did you fold your material in half? I dont believe bhai amolak singh folded his (infact the proper way of tying any gurmat dastar is not to fold the width). In terms of it being lose. Firstly, problems like this always pop up when new to dastar tying, sometimes you sort out one issue and another problem starts, it takes time until you get a dumalla perfect in everyway. However, its possible that its lose because you are not tying a bunga, I would say to try doing a bunga, you will need roughly 5 yard mal mal for a bunga (it should be minimum the length of your hair+3 wraps around your head).
  19. vaheguroo jeeo, need more parchar like this these days. Currently it seems most of the youth is going away from this straightforward spirituality that Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj taught.
  20. Vaheguroo ji never said he agreed to your system of asking. If you want answers do ardas and take a hukamnama. In fact if you are confused about why this all happened you can even take a hukamnama about that.
  21. Sorry I am from East London, but I am sure you can get some help in Derby. I would suggest asking Gyani Kulwinder Singh Ji of Singh Sabha Gurdwara Derby, he also ties a dumalla and I am sure he would be happy to teach you or get someone else to. If you are ever down ends and you still need help, get in touch! but I am pretty sure Gyani ji should be able to help you.
