problem i see with bbc "asian" network from a Sikh perspective is that the so called sikh callers are so rubbish they actually support the rubbish nihal comes out with. I dont know a single person who listens to it The station is so sleazy and only really appeals to dimwits, that there is never any intellectual debates - so normal educated Sikhs, or Spirituality inclined Sikhs would never dream of listening or calling in to make a counter argument. Rochdale grooming trial: Nine found guilty of child sex charges Nine men have been convicted of being part of a child sexual exploitation ring in Greater Manchester. The men, from Rochdale and Oldham, "groomed" girls, some as young as 13. Liverpool Crown Court heard the men plied their victims with drink and drugs so they could "pass them around" and use them for sex. The case, involving Asian defendants and white victims, sparked protests by far-right groups but police insist the grooming was not "racially motivated". A failed police investigation in 2008 allowed the abuse to go undetected for another two years. After four days of deliberations, the jury of three men and nine women returned guilty verdicts against the men for their part in the child sex ring which centred on Heywood. The offences included rape, trafficking girls for sex and conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child. Two of the defendants on trial, Qamar Shazad and Liaquat Shah both of Rochdale, were acquitted and walked free from court. The court was told that the abuse, which began in 2008, took place at two takeaways in the town involving a group of Asian men aged between 24 and 59. The oldest defendant, a 59-year-old man from Oldham was convicted of two counts of rape, aiding and abetting rape, sexual assault and trafficking for the purposes of sexual exploitation but cannot be identified for legal reasons. Some of the girls were beaten and forced to have sex with "several men in a day, several times a week", the jury was told. One teenager told the jury she was forced to have sex with 20 men in one night. Another recalled being raped by two men while she was "so drunk she was vomiting over the side of the bed". 'Incapacitated by alcohol' Police said the victims were from "chaotic", "council estate" backgrounds. The girls were targeted in "honeypot locations" where young people were seen to congregate, such as outside takeaways. Rachel Smith, for the prosecution, told the jury: "No child should be exploited as these girls say they were." "There were also occasions on which one or more of the girls were so incapacitated by alcohol and/or drugs that they were incapable of having any control over whether or with whom they had sexual intercourse," she said. In court, many of the defendants argued that they had no knowledge the girls were underage. But Senior Investigating Officer Det Insp Mike Sanderson said this was no defence. "What we are dealing with here is the deliberate targeting of young, vulnerable girls by a group of older and in most cases much older men who simply saw them as 'fair game'. "They preyed on the fact that the young girls were extremely vulnerable and impressionable." 4 Prisoners Raise Pro-Khalistan Slogans in Court AMBALA | APR 06, 2012 Four jail inmates from Punjab today raised pro-Khalistan slogans after they were produced in a local court in connection with a blast incident here. A team of Punjab Police had brought the four accused here from Punjab's Nabha Jail for the hearing of the case in the court of District and Sessions Judge Navita Singh. After the four -- Manjinder Singh, Gurjant Singh, Harwinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh -- came out from the court they started raising slogans in support of Khalistan (Separate Sikh homeland). Gurdaspur SSP Surinder Kumar Kalia maintained on Friday that police would not prevent the people from attending the religious ceremony but would not allow anyone to disturb peace. Security had been beefed up at all chowks and entry points in Gurdaspur town and police would do its best to instill a sense of security among the locals, the SSP said and claimed that there was no call from any organisation to observe a 'bandh' in Gurdaspur on April 7. Meanwhile, most private schools of Gurdaspur have already announced a holiday for students and staff on Saturday as a precautionary measure. Many local shopkeepers too would prefer to keep shops shut to avoid any unsavoury incident. Meanwhile, a large number of people from the district and other parts of the state are expected to attend the 'bhog' ceremony.
