  1. June 3rd , 2004 20th JEYTH, 536 Nanakshahi UNITED SIKHS INTERNATIONAL GURU NANAK YOUTH AWARD TO BE LAUNCHED TO HONOUR THE LIVES OF THREE SIKH YOUTHS OF BRITISH COLUMBIA BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA – The Sikh Community strongly feels the sudden loss of 3 Sikh youths earlier this month, who led exemplary lives: Bhai Parminder Singh, Bhai Charnjit Singh and Bibi Rena Kaur. In their short time, these young Sikhs shared with the Canadian Sikh community an inspirational way of living. They had only recently set up the Guru Nanak Academy in Surrey, British Columbia, which was aimed at imparting Sikhi to the youths. Their vision for Sikh youth provides us the opportunity to seek new opportunities to spread their enthusiasm for the global Sikh community. In celebration of the contributions and vision of Parminder Singh, Charnjit Singh and Rena Kaur, UNITED SIKHS has launched an annual ‘International Guru Nanak Youth Award’ in their memory. The first Award will be granted on Guru Nanak’s prakash dihara this year. The recipient of this award will be given the important mandate of promoting understanding and cooperation amongst Sikh youths around the world. The recipient of the award will act as a roving Sikh youth ambassador who will travel across the globe to spread the message of Sikhi amongst youths. The Sikh youth ambassador will also help fulfill the aspirations of the Guru Nanak Academy. The Academy will provide input on how this could be achi eved. The award valued at $3,000, will include a one-year world-tour ticket and the ambassador will be hosted by Sikh communities and organizations wherever he/she travels. UNITED SIKHS will work with other related Sikh organizations to draw up the ambassador’s itinerary for the year. The purpose of this award is to raise awareness of issues facing young Sikhs, to provide an ambassador of Sikh values and principles with hope to promote understanding and cooperation amongst the global community. It is envisaged that the recipient of this award will engage in internships with Sikh institutions attend forums, conferences, camps and inter-faith functions and be a role model for youths around the world. This award is a step toward recognizing the important contributions and messages left for us by these outstanding young Sikhs. In the spirit of Khalsa and ‘Chardi Kala’ (high spirit), we wish to launch this award in the hopes of living our dreams of the betterment of the global Sikh community through the inspirational memory of these young Sikhs. UNITED SIKHS will invite applications for this Award in August this year. The award will be open to Sikh youths around the world whose exemplary lives make them Sikh youth role models. 10. Veerjee who posted above me, I feel that ladeevaar suroop is the full and pooran suroop of Guru Granth Sahib jee. I believe this is my living Guru. I believe I can touch and talk to and experience the love and divine grace of my Guru Sahib. I believe I could get parthakh darshan of my Guru Sahib by reading from the gurbani in Guru Granth Sahib. Therefore I fully agree with you. I just want to clarify that Guru Granth Sahib CAN ALSO SHINE in other places, in other ways. Could you TOUCH the baanee that was coming from God down through Guru Nanak Dev Jee? Can you TOUCH the naam simran that was vibrating within Guru Gobind Singh jee as he gave khande-ke-pahul to the Punj Pyare? These are abstract things but Guru can make them real. Touch is not the only necessity to make something real. FEEL and touch are two different things. When you FEEL guru while reading gurbani, on the computer, on the PDA, or whatever else, then forget about anything else - the guru will reach out to you and you will be in touch with guru jee. bhul chuk maaf karnaa jee vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!!
  11. the shabad is "maas maas kar moorakh jhagray" this does NOT mean "everybody who fights about meat is an <banned word filter activated>" it means "the ritualistic pandit is a fool for he argues, 'this is meat,' 'that is meat'" the shabad goes on to say that without 'gyaan' you will not know what is really meat and what is not you will not realize what is OKAY and what is NOT okay to eat this is called BIBEK BUDHEE and only Guru Sahib can bless it to you and Guru Sahib's darshan happens through Guru Sahib - in the shabad jyot suroop of Baba Nanak - GURU GRANTH SAHIB JEE, read from GUru GRanth Sahib jee and do vichar (YES DO VICHAR ABOUT MEAT TOO!!!) and then have pyaar and with reading, listening, accepting, loving, following gurbani you will get bibek budhee something I don't have yet because I don't practice rehit enough. Please don't say that you are an <banned word filter activated> for discussing meat. Idiots are those people who 1) say they are right and everybody is wrong 2) say everybody is right and the guru is wrong 3) don't even bother to find out the truth I am sincerely sorry for anything I said against Gurmat and Saadh Sangat jee please forgive me and may Guru jee bless you with naam and chardee kalaa, saajan thayray charan kee hoay rahaa sadh dhooR vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!!
  12. Dear Friend, If you are currently on the path of the Guru - a sincerely request that before you decide to abandon your Guru and choose another path, please do some serious soul-searching and some serious reflection about Sikhi and try to come to terms with whether or not you are completely ready for this transition. I humbly advise that you go to www.sikhnet.com Discussion Forums, www.tapoban.org and www.sikhsangat.com (here) and search the topics of reincarnation. There have been many interesting posts about reincarnation and why it is a legitimate and plausible reality. It is completely explainable and understandable, it just deserves some attention and some open-minded consideration. God loves you so much that God gave yuo the power to be responsible for your own actions. How unreasonable and unfair does it sound that one Jesus, who was crucified some 1965 years ago, could die for the sins of the people who aren't even born yet? How could he die for the sins of the children born in 2044, fourty years from now and almost 2000 years after his own death ? Sikhi also teaches that there is life after death. That is in fact reincarnation in and of itself. You will not die, your soul will move on to judgement - which is similar to the theories of Christianity. However heaven and hell are temporary transitory places that the soul can rest at. The only permanent true place is called The Realm of Truth, where one becomes completely absorbed in the love and devotion to God. This is called "sach khand" in Gurbani. You can experience heaven and hell while you are on earth and you can also go to heaven and hell when you die. The same goes for sach khand. H owever, heaven and hell are limited - you will experience the pleasures of the 5 senses and the 5 elements (earth, wind, water, fire and void/atmosphere) However sach khand is a completely different experience where you will never again feel the pain of Maya and the sting of seperation from God. The key to this Sach Khand is in the hand of Guru Nanak - who is the shabad (Word) jyot (light) of God on earth. This shabad jyot travelled through all of the Gurus and now it lives in Guru Granth Sahib jee. When you honestly, faithfully, with dedication read from Guru Granth Sahib jee, I guarantee you will find amazing treasures that you had never realized before. I think you are judging Sikhi by punjabi culture, and other outside things. In order to truly experience the essence of Sikhi, I humbly advise that before you make any decision to change your Guru and become a Lutheran Christian, you should try to be a Gursikh. Try to read the translations of Guru granth Sahib jee, do paat, do naam sirman with all your heart. Say "Waheguru" (Wonderful enlightener) from the bottom of your heart and say it many times with devotion. Most importantly, go to a smagam. Whether that is a saadh sangat smagam (www.samagams.org) or an akhand keertanee jathaa smagam (www.akj.org) or some other sangat's smagam - make sure you absorb yourself in an experience of Saadh Sangat. There are a few traditions of Sikhi that I have not seen replicated in any faith. Saadh sangat, langar, chardee kalaa, sarbat da bhalla are some unique foundations of Sikhi and I humbly suggest you first explore these - then make your decision. The famous saying is "don't knock it til you try it." And let me say here - dont' mix your parents Sikhi with yours. Just practice your Sikhi and if you see them doing anything stereotypical or something you think is wrong, do not judge them for it - practice what comes to your heart. So please kindly take this test run - for the next two weeks try to become a Gursikh a nd if you are still not interested in the Sikh way of life, then post again and we will talk more. I humbly request that you follow this advice and then let us know how you feel in two weeks. I am sincerely sorry for any mistakes against Gurmat and Saadh Sangat jee please forgive me and I hope Guru jee blesses you all with naam and chardee kalaa. vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!!
  13. I'm not defending Toronto Star and I agree with ssk but I also agree with Khalsa4ever. As Guru Gobind Singh jee gave gurgadhee to a ladeevaar suroop which was hand-written by a rehitdharee Gursikh, I think a ladeevaar suroop which was hand-written by a rehitdharee Gursikh is the PARTHAKH, PURAN suroop of Guru jee. However, Guru jee can give you darshan in other ways. You can get Guru jee's darshan when you concentrate on your shaster. You can get Guru jee's darshan when you bring together five Singhs. If five aren't there, look at yourself in the mirror and there is Guru jee. When you read the daily hukamnama, or go to Sikhitothemax, you ARE doing Guru jee's darshan. Guru jee says, baanee guroo guroo hai baanee Guru jee does not say, kaagaz (paper) guroo or shaee (ink) guroo. Clearly baanee guroo guroo hai baanee means the WORD and the word can be communicated in different energies. Dhan Guru Baba Nanak Shabad Guru Jyot Suroop Guru Granth Sahib jee can give you darshan in many ways and the appropriate respect is a matter of love, faith and shardaa. When you get a sticker with gurbani on it why do you treat it nicely? what about if there was a cup with gurbani on it? Let's take it to the next level and say what would you do if there was a box with Gurbani on it? How would you treat it? And is it the bani itself, or YOUR DARSHAN of the bani that matters? Because what if you're listening to Gurbani on the radio - and Gurbani is coming out of there. Can you protect the airwaves? probably not. But can you avoid your radio from being put in a disrespectful place? And is that wrong? I think it's all shardaa. Whatever people do - let them do it, and let them have their own shardaa. We have no right to judge others. It is only Guru jee's hukam that Guru jee has appointed the Dharam Raaj to make the judgements - that is not our job. And I'm sure dharam raaj does a good enough job so we should stop trying to do it for him. We should just mind our own business and let other people respect Gurbani the way that they think is most appropriate. "bhola bhaao gobind milaavai" "gobind bhaao bhagat kaa bhukhaa" "bhaavanee bhagat bhaae kaudee agar bhaag rakh thaahe gur sarab nidhaan dhaan dayt hain" I am sincerely sorry fo r any mistakes against Gurmat and Saadh Sangat jee please forgive me and may Guru jee bless everybody with naam and chardee kalaa. vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!!
  14. vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!! When you become a Gursikh, then you can only have ONE Guru and that is Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Once you accept Guru Nanak Dev Ji as your complete and final Guru, the living light of God on the earth, the Shabad Jyot Guru, then you will be accepting Guru Angad Dev Jee, Guru Amar Das Jee, Guru Ram Das Jee, Guru Arjan Dev Jee, Guru Hargobind jee, Guru Har Rai jee, Guru Har Krishan Jee, Guru Tegh Bahadur Jee, Guru Gobind Singh Jee, Guru Granth Sahib Jee and the GUru Khalsa Panth - this is all ONE living light of the Shabad jyot Guru Baba Nanak. When you accept this ONE SHABAD GURU, "bani guru guru hai bani," which shines forth in the Guru Granth Sahib, then you cannot turn your back on this Guru. Then you should NEVER go to any horoscope, palm-readers, etc. etc. However, that does not mean that palm-readers, horoscopes, black magic, does not WORK. In my humble opinion it is real, and it does work. However ---somebody posted a story on another thread here on Sikhsangat, that Guru Amar Das jee was a devi worshipper and Bibi Bhani Jee was singing the gurbani of Guru Nanak Dev Jee and Guru Amar Das jee became so in love with the bani that he asked Bibi Bhani who wrote this and she said Guru Baba Nanak. And He went to go and visit the jyot of Guru Baba Nanak which was alive and thriving in Guru Angad Dev Jee. Guru Amar Das Jee approached and saw an old woman sweeping outside the house of Guru Angad Dev Jee. When Guru Amar Das jee asked who the old woman was, Guru Angad Dev Jee said that it is t he devi that Guru Amar Das jee used to pray to. In Bhai Nand Lal jee's vaars it says that ALL HEAVEN AND HELL ARE AT THE FEET OF GURU GOBIND SINGH JEE, and Guru Gobind Singh jee is at the feet of God. Please do not be mistaken - devi, devtay, sur, nar, mun, jan, veer, jogi, tapi, moni, rishi, ridhi, sidhi, 1-800-healers, clairvoyants, voodoo masters, --- all the different types of people and life forms, they are all the DUST UNDER THE FEET OF GURU NANAK JYOT SHABAD GURU SUROOP GURU GRANTH SAHIB JEE. Please do not be mistaken - horoscopes, astrology, palmistry, numerology, tarot cards, fortune-tellers, psychics --- all the different types of future reading, they are all the DUST UNDER THE FEET OF GURU NANAK JYOT SHABAD GURU SUROOP GURU GRANTH SAHIB JEE. so never believe in these things because even if they are real --- there is no comparison between the drop and the ocean... these things are drops and Guru jee is the ocean. "ghiaan dhiaan kich karam na jaanaa saar na jaanaa thayree sabh thay vadaa satgur naanak jin kal raakhee mayree" I am sincerely sorry for any mistakes against Gurmat and SAadh Sangat jee please forgive me and may God bless you all with naam and chardee kalaa. vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!!
  15. vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!! In my humble opinion with regards to ardas - you should do ardas for yourself from your heart. We do not believe in the Brahmin system that you have to go to a Brahmin and the Brahmin will pray to God for you. You can pray to God directly. That is our belief. And in fact you should pray to God directly from your heart, and don't ask other people to do it for you. What other people do for you might help, but what you do for yourself with your full heart will help a lot, and will help for sure. B) I think that the only ardas a granthee Singh/Kaur should do is whatever program happened that day and so that means that nobody can have an ardas done by giving money. Money doesn't mean anything to Guru jee as Guru jee is sarb-kalaa-bharpoor. Guru jee is shaahe-shaahen-shaah, and Guru jee doesn't need your money. What about those people who can't afford to pay for an expensive ardaas? Do you think God won't listen to them? It's absolutely against Sikhi to think like this. GOBIND BHAAO BHAGAT KAA BHUKHAA... God is hungry for the LOVE of devotees. A long time ago, I can't remember if it was on Mata Bhag Kaur Jagrati Dal or if it was on tapoban.org, Bibi Para s Kaur posted a message about the biography of Sant Baba Attar Singh Jee Mastuana Valay. In this biography, Baba jee says that when you do ardas, all of the Guru Sahibaan are there and they are standing on the tip of their toe. Ball of their foot, tip of their toe - I don't know what the real story is. To be honest, everybody sees God differently and those brahmgyanis who saw Guru jee standing while they did ardas might have seen it differently too. AAP APNEE BUDH HAI JAYTHEE. The point of the sakhi is that you should do ardaas with your complete heart and whatever you put in the ardaas should be important. Don't waste your time when you do ardaas, because it should be an honest sincere effort of thanking the Guru, getting blessings and forgiveness from the Guru, and asking for charan dhooR and naam daan. About the akhand paat bhog - no bhainjee, this is actually maryada. It is maryada that you are supposed to read the first five pauris of jap ji sahib to re-commence the sehaj paath after somebody's akhand paat bhog. This is not against maryada. This is the typical practice in many different sampardhas and jathas. This is not a shortcut. About "prem patola" - in my humble opinion this is the wrong interpretation and you do not have to sing this shabad when somebody gives rumala to Guru Granth Sahib jee. The shabad is "prem patola thai sai ditha takkan koo path mayree." If you carefully read the shabad and do vichaar of it, you will understand that the perso n who is talking is a GURSIKH and he is talking about THE BLANKET OF LOVE FROM THE GURU. This means the Gursikh is saying that THE GURU GAVE ME A "PREM PATOLA" in order to cover up my impurities, in order to keep my HONOUR. If we use this shabad for Guru Granth Sahib jee we are being very wrong and disrespectful. We are saying that the Gursikh is putting a rumaallaa on Guru jee, to protect Guru jee's honour. That's the opposite of the shabad. We cannot give Guru jee this blanket, this blanket comes from Guru jee. Even when we give rumaalaa donation to Guru jee - it's already Guru jees, so what are we giving? thayraa thuj ko saumpdhoo kyaa laagay mayraa? The real blanket of love comes from Guru jee and you can sing this when you take amrit and Guru jee gives you the five K's. I am sincerely sorry for any mistakes against gurmat in this post - please Saadh Sangat forgive me and may Guru jee bless you all with naam and chardee kalaa. vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!!
  16. i have to agree with khalistani and singhstah both i think that both are right it's great that you do seva with pyaar but rehit is also pyaar i should do more seva but also work on my rehit
  17. Veerjee, I thought I was so clear in my post but I am full of faults I must have made some mistake "Guru bina mai naahee hor" I have no one, other than my Guru. That means if Guru Nanak is your Guru THAT'S it. Guru Nanak is your Guru, nobody else. You give your heart, mind, soul, body, wealth, everything to the Guru - your ONE Guru. That includes all your time, attention, everything is Guru's and NOT YOURS. Therefore you have no RIGHT to take your time and give it to some other devi / devta / god / goddess. "AAD ANTH AYKAI AVTAARAA SOEE GUROO SAMJIYO HAMAARAA" There is only ONE LIGHT OF TRUTH from beginning to end - that is my Guru. Akaal Purakh, WAheguru, is the SATGURU of SIKHS and Guru Nanak is the SHABAD JYOT image of AKAAL PURAKH on this earth. there is NO other guru. Please forgive me for the miscommunication. vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!!
  18. the previous answer was right on the dot. personally speaking parshad feels like a physical fulfillment to help me have the sugar and strength for my brain to work and digest what i learned in the gurdwara you can't really do bhagtee on an empty stomach unless you are a brahmgyani so langar / parshad helps you this way too but i think the ABOVE post was best
  19. in bhai nand lal jee's vaars it says that whoever serves parshad but doesn't keep rehit is punishable the only exception to this is when nobody else is available to serve it and you are doing it with 100% pyaar there are exceptions to all rules pyaar is the main thing don't get discouraged "kandola" jee but the biggest SEVA you can do is grow your kes.
  20. vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!! Pyare veerjee, The answer is, "choose your Guru." There is only one Guru for a Sikh. "Guru bina mai naahee hor" Couldn't be clearer than that. When you put your feet in two boats, eventually you fall out and drown. And anyway all of the boats of all of the hindu gods, goddesses, the muslim saints, prophets, christian saints, prophets, and all the devi, devtas, sur, nar, mun, jan, yogi, ridhi, sidhi, pandits, gyanis, sevadars, they are all being pulled through the ocean by the huge ship of Shabad Guru Jyot Satguru Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee Mahraaj
  21. The longer the beard the more useful in sweeping the dust from the feet of the saints there are REAL gurmukhs who do this without people knowing dhan dhan gursikh dhrig dhrig (absolutely corrupt and foul) is the life of the person who goes against guru's hukam
  22. vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!! According to the story - she owns a tea shop. That's it. she owns a tea shop in India. She must be of a lower income bracket. So you have to think she probably doesn't care what people think, and she also isn't trying to show off. I think she is just a little frustrated that her family has had such bad things happen to them in the last 100-200 years, and this is all because of the bad vibes created by the karma of their ancestors, Aurangzeb and Jahangir. So she wants to pray for forgiveness - all the power to her. I think it's great. I know somebody might think "but your dad's dad's dad's deeds are not your fault." But to be realistic - Guru jee is the one who creates SANJOG VIJOG And when you're born into a family you are connected to it whether you like it or not And you might have been born into that family FOR A REASON, who knows, you might just be YOUR GREAT-GREAT-GRANDFATHER, reincarnated. Everybody has their own karma, yes. And actions make the human, not family or lineage, yes. But karma / action might make the family or lineage. So you CAN BE blamed for the house you are born into. Everything is either 1) karma, 2) kirpa that's my perspective. vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!!
