  1. I have a suggestion, although maybe a little late for this year... Send 1 official sevadar to every single gurdwara where coaches will be leaving from. Get them to take some forms or a laptop with them and get the names, emails, telephone numbers of every person on the coach and put it all in a database. That way, you can keep people who dont visit these forums, websites etc updated with all the information and build on a database with thousands of members. This rally isnt one day in a calendar for people to show their support... it should be ongoing and people who support the rally etc on the day should be kept up to date all year round and i think a lot of people who came on Sunday dont visit this forum, dont visit the sikh sites etc. Dont let the Gurdwara organise someone to collect e-mail addresses because the fact of the matter is, no matter how much they say they will, THEY WONT. It wont get done because to them it would be something "extra" rather than a "necessity". Just a suggestion to maybe implement for next year. Bhul chuk maaph.

  4. U cud go to many levels and trust me, its no point asking on this forum. You will spin off a debate about who is sikh - can you have moneh Sikhs? Can you have sehajdhaari Sikhs? Are you a Sikh if you dont follow x maryadha? Are you a Sikh if you follow a certain jathabandhi?
  5. Please see poster for full details for Sant Anoop Singh in UK this spring 2009
  6. Bhagats are not the same as Gurus though... Guru Granth Sahib Jee is the embodiment of the Light of all our 10 Gurus who came in "human form". Yes, bhagats contributed to the emodiment of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee, but they werent then given the title of Guru Kabeer Jee etc were they? They are still revered as Bhagat Kabeer Jee etc... I feel its only been 7 odd weeks since the channel launched, so i feel we should all give it a chance.
  7. I think the bottom line is simple: If you class yourself as a Sikh, then you realise (not "believe") that Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee is your ONE and ONLY Guru and you bow to no other than Him. If you dont, then you are not a Sikh of the Guru. Its simple.
  8. Vaheguru thats reli sad to hear. More news at : http://www.amritsarovar.com/blog/others/ra...-singh-missing/ After losing Baba Sadhu Singh ji from Nanaksar few days back,it was another sad day for Sikh community after the boat which was taking 13 people in Harike Pattan during ‘jal parvah’ of baba ji’s remains, sunk and all fell into the water body. As per latest reports, out of 13 people, 10 were taken out and three are still missing. Among the missing one’s are famous ragi, bhai zorawar singh ji (ludhiana) and bhai gurcharan singh ji who is son of another renowed ragi bhai harbans singh ji jagadhari and one more baba ji’s sewak harjinder singh. Baba Mangal Singh who was taken out and sent to hospital treatment could not survive and passed away. We are trying to get more details and will be updating the blog as soon as we hear something. If you have any news/links , please share them under comments section or mail to info@amritsarovar.com
  9. Babbar_Singhsta, i understand your "frustrations" but this isnt the way to go about this. The Sikhishop guy has said he will gladly meet with you in person to sort this out. When someone says that, you should refrain from replying to this thread and meet him. I dont think what the Sikhishop guy is asking of you is unfair. You should sort it out in person. Sikhishop, i suggest if the threats dont stop, you report them to the police. We have laws in this country and they are here to protect us, not shame people up. You wouldnt be doing an unjustice to Sikhs by reporting these threats which are definitely not a Gursikh way to go about things anyway. IN addition, i have to say, some of Babba_Singhstas points are valid when it comes to ripping off imagery and charging high prices. I know you personally, so i can say with great confidence that you wouldnt do it for your own profitable needs, however, maybe you need to be a bit more transparent in what you are doing with the profits eg. if you are putting the money back into other seva or charity - because everyone knows you can get these shaster in India for next to nothing. So i would suggest be transparent with your cash so you dont incurr these problems and take your own photos etc and not get them from other sites. Forgive me if ive said anything wrong.

  12. VJKK VJKF, Are you sure the fire was at the gurdwara on Sherbourne street, where the smagams happen? The news article says it was on a different street...
  13. Thas a bit out of order aint it? So your stereo-typing all Bhatre? And here i thought we were all trying to eradicate caste... we clearly have a long way to go. Oh and lastly... Sri Guru HarKrishan Sahib Ji Gurdwara is on Sherbone Street, not Cheetham Road. So were talking about a completely differnet GurKar.
  14. Vaheguru Whats happening nowdays?! This is terrible... quote bbc news : "Firefighters tackled the blaze throughout the night. An investigation is under way but the fire is not thought to be suspicious."
  15. On that link, please also leave a comment. Look at what comments others have wrote and offer your support... -- actually, it seems they have now stopped comments on that topic. Ironic that most of the posts on there are all in support of the council. Express and Star seem to have their own agenda as well...
  16. Nowadays, its not that much cheaper to get someone to build you a PC - its cheaper to buy a ready built one from PC World or Dell etc.
  17. http://www.expressandstar.com/2009/04/30/t...bi-lessons-row/ A race row threw a council meeting in Wolverhampton into chaos when furious Conservatives stormed out amid accusations of “looking down” on the Asian community. The mass protest came during a heated debate that saw the ruling Tory Lib-Dem alliance withdraw plans to start charging for Saturday morning Asian language classes. The classes are attended by 700 children under the age of 14 in the city. Protesters watched in astonishment as 25 councillors left the council chamber at the Civic Centre in anger at remarks by Labour councillor Elias Mattu, who said: “They are changing their mind as a result of public pressure. They are looking down on the Asian community.” There were cries of “withdraw” before the Conservative benches suddenly emp- tied. Mayor Christine Mills was forced to adjourn the debate for more than 10 minutes before order was restored after Councillor Mattu apologised. Labour leader Councillor Roger Lawrence said of the walkout: “I have never seen anything like it during 27 years on the council.” The controversy was over proposals to charge parents around £1.50p per child. Almost 3,000 people signed a petition backed by local MPs opposing the move, with protesters packing the public gallery yesterday holding placards. Conservative leader Neville Patten said of the walkout: “We left the chamber because Councillor Mattu was making disparaging comments about the way we view Asian people. We view them as an important part of the community and we are giving them what they want.” Mohinder Singh Malhotra, who has taught Punjabi for more than 14 years, said today: “Research has shown that if a child learns an additional language it raises their levels of achievement in school. If they do not know their own mother tongue they lose contact with their own identity.”
