    Sikligar Sikh's charity

wjkk wjkf I am going to start working again soon after two years of being jobless! i am in my 20s and had series anxiety problems, i was on medication too! I am going to start working again, its only a small job but its a start. In these 2 years off i have been getting close to Sikhi and want to help our sikligar brothers. I know there are Sikh charities out there to help them but i'm just wondering which one is the best in helping them out? As much as i would love to go India and help them out i really can't do that right now, so was just thinking which charity to donate too ... At my local Gurdwara people can give unwanted clothes and pandey/kitchen stuff which will be sent too Sikligar Sikhs. I have lots of old clothes which i have hardly worn like tracksuits, hoodies, tshirts etc, which i thought i would give to the gurdwara rather than throwing them away but my mum turned around and said no! she said she's going to give them to my cousins in India when we visit them! Thank you
  3. This charity is doing some great work. The website if you want to donate. http://khalsahelp.in/
  4. Why do people in the west (I can only really talk about my media experiences of UK, N America and Oz) need to lower the level so much when it comes to fundraising/charity? Okay, if it is a sponsored silence or running a marathon, then I agree it's a good effort and could be rewarded But then there are things promoted like 'shaving off hair' , stripping, naked calenders etc Is it just kaljug ?

  7. While I am glad that our Bibian are organising to support abandoned wives , why is it only sikh wives who seem to be highlighted by this article when I'm sure it is happening throughout India especially in neighbouring Haryana too? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-39058436
  8. For more than 50 years, the Central Govt has made Panjab give away more than 50 percent of its river water, for free, to the non riparian states of Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi. And it has costed Panjab more than 20 lakh crore rupees (£200 billion pounds). Today only 20 per cent of Panjab's water needs are being met by its own river water. In this film, Pritam Singh Kumedan, an expert and advisor to the Panjab Govt on riparian water issues, reveals, in an interview with UNITED SIKHS, how Panjab can stop giving away this water for free. Will the politicians, who Panjab is voting for on 4th Feb 2017, ensure that Panjab does not give away its water to non-riparian states anymore?
  9. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Many US charities have a thing called Amazon Smile which is where 0.5% of certain products brought gets donated to charity. Ensaaf has some as well: Use GoodSearch.com, Amazon Smile or GoodShop.com GoodSearch.com is a Yahoo-powered search engine that donates half of its advertising revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities chosen by its users. Amazon Smile allows Amazon shoppers to direct 0.5 percent of their purchase totals at the e-commerce giant toward a charitable organization of their choice. Amazon will then donate the money on behalf of its customers. GoodShop.com is a new online shopping mall that donates up to 37 percent of each purchase to your favorite cause. Hundreds of stores including Amazon, iTunes, Target, Best Buy, eBay, Macy's, and Barnes & Noble have teamed up with GoodShop. We could do this in the UK, we register to become affiliates and every time the Sangat buys things online, we could donate all that money to charities that are helping Sikhs in India like SOPW, Ensaaf and others. I would like the Sangats opinion on this, and if its a good idea then I wouldn't mind setting this up. Please forgive me if i said anything wrong *********************************************************************Waheguru******************************************************************************************** Update: We have now gone live check us out at www.sikhi.me Also we have registered at easyfundrasing. Also we have get paid if you use this search engine powered by Yahoo *********************************************************************Waheguru******************************************************************************************** Update 08/07/2015: eBay has approved the following countries to earn commission: eBay USA eBay Canda eBay Austria eBay Australia eBay Belgium eBay Switzerland eBay Germany eBay Spain eBay France eBay Ireland eBay Italy eBay Netherlands Click any of the links above and click the link on Sikhi.me Please can the UK Sangat note, eBay is available through Easy Fundraising link above. *********************************************************************************Waheguru******************************************************************************************* Please note all links to eBay have to go through Sikhi.me directly

  11. ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖਾਲਸਾ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫਤਿਹ In BBC Magazine Monitor - Homeless people in the UK are getting free meals thanks to a centuries-old Sikh tradition. Why, asks Rajeev Gupta. "We come here because we get food... A hot meal. It's a luxury for me." John Davidson is 55 and homeless. He is one of 250 people who have just received a hand-out of hot soup, drinks, chocolate bars and other supplies from the Sikh Welfare and Awareness Team van parked up on the Strand in central London on a cold Sunday evening. The Swat team, as they're known, park at the same spot every week so a group of volunteers from the Sikh community can hand out vital supplies. Homeless people, who overwhelmingly are not Sikh, patiently wait in line to be served. For the volunteers handing out food here, this is more than just good charitable work. For them this is a religious duty enshrined by the founder of the Sikh religion, Guru Nanak, over 500 years ago. At a time of deep division by caste and religious infighting between Hindus and Muslims in India, Guru Nanak called for equality for all and set forward the concept of Langar - a kitchen where donated produce, prepared into wholesome vegetarian curry by volunteers, is freely served to the community on a daily basis. Today, thousands of free Langar meals are served every day in Sikh temples throughout the UK. The Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Southall, thought to be the biggest Sikh temple outside of India, says it alone serves 5,000 meals on weekdays and 10,000 meals on weekends. Every Sikh has the duty to carry out Seva, or selfless service, says Surinder Singh Purewal, a senior member of the temple management team. "It means we're never short of donations or volunteers to help prepare the Langar." In recent times the Langar meal has acted as a barometer for the state of the economy. After the 2008 recession many Sikh temples reported a surge in the numbers of non-Sikhs coming in for the free Langar meals. It's now common to see non-Sikhs inside the temple, Purewal says: "We don't mind it. As long as people show respect, are not intoxicated and cover their heads in line with our traditions, then everyone is welcome." The Swat team say they decided to take the concept of Langar outside its traditional setting in temples and out onto the streets when they saw a growing homelessness problem in London. Randeep Singh who founded SWAT says: "When you go to the temple, what's the message? The message is to help others, help your neighbours. That's what we are doing."

First Batch of Rickshaw Distribution http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bs_xN2NIXM0 (Guru Sahib beant kirpa di naal a second batch will be distributed shortly to the most needy families within the colonies to make them self sufficient as they once were). For individual cases of those who were allocated rickshaws, please visit our facebook page (link below). Door to Door surveys and financial assessments was used to select the most needy families for rickshaws. Key persons in Delhi who work with survivors of genocide were also requested to recommend those who are in desperate need of employment, as well as a panel recommendation and selection team. The panel consists of representatives from all communities living within the colonies as this helps to avoid any bias. Education Matters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLOBDiqxWS4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLOBDiqxWS4 When children are not in school, they are exposed to drugs, which has already taken the lives of many first and second generations in the genocide colonies. Since making this video, Seva84 has supported the education of more families in need. The Aftermath – short film on how 1984 genocide survivors are currently living (in appalling conditions) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNGYNM4apOo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNGYNM4apOo Seva84 Projects are not quick and easy. There are deep rooted issues which require specialist help from specialist organisations whom we have, and are forging relationships with. With Guru Kirpa and your support, this seva has been possible. Despite having minimal income, we do our best to maximize output (benefit to the survivors of genocide currently living in deep poverty and squalor conditions). All members of Seva84 UK work unpaid on a volunteer basis to maximise the use of your donations. If you feel you can contribute to seva84 in any way either practically, financially or otherwise please do get in touch. We are a small team of sevadars and welcome any input from the sangat. Sharing is a big part of sikh philosophy, however we should be prudent in choosing who is worthy of our chartiable gifts - Akli par ke boojheye Akli keeje Daan || Exercise your wisdom in reading and in charity. (Usually Daan as per hindu mat was only for brahmins who were already well fed ) Sey Nar Kya Puraan sun Keena | Ann Pachati Bhagat Na Upaji Bhookhei Daan Na Deena || What has one gained by listening to puranas if he has not immersed himself in unwavering worship and has not given food to the hungry. Here puranas are symbolic of all religious scriptures (including SGGS) ... the gist is if one does his nitnem but turns his head away when he sees needy/hungry people , all of his recitations are futile. If sangat knows more tuks on this topic please share.
  14. What charities can we donate to to help those affected by the cyclone?http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-24507810 India 12 October 2013 Last updated at 20:14 Cyclone Phailin makes landfall in India A huge cyclone that has forced as many as 500,000 people to flee their homes has made landfall in eastern India. Winds were measured at 200 km/h (125mph) as Cyclone Phailin hit the coast near Gopalpur, Orissa state, at about 21:15 (15:45 GMT). Authorities had predicted a storm surge of at least 3m (10ft) that was expected to cause extensive damage. Officials say they are better prepared than in 1999 when a cyclone killed thousands of people in Orissa. Cyclone Phailin has been classed as "very severe", and the head of India's Meteorological Office, LS Rathore, said it would remain in that category for six hours before losing strength. The eye of the storm was moving at 10-15 km/h (6-9mph), he said. The BBC's Sanjoy Majumder reported heavy rain and high winds lashing Gopalpur as the cyclone made landfall. 'Apocalyptic devastation' The storm has ripped up trees and road signs, and cut power supplies in some areas. There were reports of window panes being shattered and roofs being blown off. Five deaths were linked to the cyclone by Indian media, four attributed to falling trees and one to a house collapse. Another BBC reporter, Andrew North, spoke of a scene of apocalyptic devastation in Brahmapur, just inland from where the cyclone reached the coast. Store signs and other debris were being pitched high in the air by storm gusts and elaborate decorations for a major Hindu festival were strewn over the main road. Officials had earlier said that no-one would be allowed to stay in mud and thatched houses along the coast of Orissa and Andhra Pradesh states, but some residents said they wanted to stay put. "Many people refused to move, had to be convinced, and at times the police had to forcefully move them to safe places," said Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde. The army has been placed on standby for emergency and relief operations. Helicopters and food packages were ready to be dropped in the storm-affected areas. Hours before the cyclone made landfall it was generating winds of 240 km/h (150mph) over the Bay of Bengal. Most of those evacuated were in Orissa state. Sushant Sahoo, a resident of Orissa's state capital, Bhubaneswar, told the BBC that it had been raining there since the morning, and the streets were empty. "We have no electricity, it is very dark right now and very grim," he said. "I have dry food and candles. The local government has been good at getting everyone prepared and taking care of people." India's eastern coast and Bangladesh are routinely hit by cyclonic storms between April and November that cause deaths and widespread damage to property. In December 2011, Cyclone Thane hit the southern state of Tamil Nadu, killing dozens of people.
