Understand the Sikh Federation (UK) poster will also detail other events. For example:

Sikh Lobby Day of the UK Parliament - July 2005

1st National Sikh Conference for Young Sikhs (UK) - August 2005

National Sikh Convention - Sunday 11 September 2005

Rally in central London to mark the 21st anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh pogroms - Sunday 30 October 2005

This is an extract from another posting:

Last year the Sikh Federation (UK) organised many of the activities - open top coach, big banners on the coach, PA system during the route, banners for coaches travelling South, around 40 other large banners, inviting politicians to speak, dealing with the mainstream media etc. The Sikh Youth gave tremendous support and took on the "coffin" project, black balloons, encouraged the youth to attend etc.

The so-called organisers from the FSO (other than the Sikh Federation) were marginalised by the strong turnout from the youth. They reacted negatively in the press after the event against the Sikh Federation and the youth.

This year the FSO leaders (less the Sikh Federation) are guaranteed to make a b**** up of the stage. However, the Sikh Federation (UK) and the youth should turn up in numbers with plenty of literature to distribute to make sure our message reaches non-Sikhs.

I hope the above answers your question. The Sikh Federation (UK) has been forced to take a back seat this year (TO DATE) - However, poster campaign (5,000 being distributed this weekend), postcards (many thousands) on the day for distribution to non-Sikhs and getting the Sangat out will still be taken on by the Sikh Federation (UK) as event is more important than the FSO (so-called organisers).

its a shame that the sikh federation seeks to gain a political advantadge by hijacking such events, most of the youth who turned up last year did so for the event not because of FSO or sikh federation, No -doubt after this years event the Sikh Federation will again seek to show how many thousands from the 700,000 odd sikhs it supposedly represents attended. correct me if i am wrong does AmriK singh Gill chairman of the Sikh federation also sit on the FSO?

This event is a panthic event and should not be aligned to any political party, the posters could have been printed without a party name as they were last year.

but yet again the old ISYF tactics come to bear fruit...a leopard never changes its spots......

The FSO are organising the event.

The Sikh Federation (UK) do all they can to publicise the event and encourage the Sikh Youth to attend. I don't think that can be said of all the FSO participants. The Sikh Federation (UK) do not claim anywhere the event is organised by them. Many Gurdwaras play a vital role, although many FSO member organisationms are not prepared to accept this.

There is nothing wrong with publicising the event. Each organisation making up the FSO is free to publicise the event and should be doing so. Whilst "one-man" bands may have some difficulty, it should not stop the larger organisations. Perhaps, you should be asking why other FSO organisations (who presumably also exist as independent entities) choose not to publice such an important Panthic event.

Supposedly, "individuals" do not sit on the FSO (apart from one-man bands) - each of the organisations can send up to two members to attend each FSO meeting. Amrik Singh rarely attends as indicated in many FSO press reports in the Panjabi press.

Dear Aman_Jee feel to design, print, pay for and distrubute posters. The Sikh Federation (UK) have taken this unilateral action (late in the day, partly at the request of the Sikh Youth) as the FSO collectively thinks adverts in the Panjabi press is sufficient publicity. Others including many youth disagree.

We encourage all Gurdwaras and Sikh organisations to produce banners and placards and bring these on 12 June. The more that take part the better. Last year the Sikh Federation (UK) provided the FSO (about 3 months before the event) with around 20 slogans for banners/placards for individual organisations to produce. Ask yourself why the Sikh Federation (UK) were alone it taking up this appeal.

I could go on . . but some will never be happy with what the Sikh Federation (UK) do as they simply oppose and are negative at all actions by the FEDERATION.

Jagtar Singh Ji... lets not forget the tremendous amount of support Young Sikhs have from the Sikh Federation.

This is not directed towards one person... BUT A lot of people are quick to point the finger especially at the Federation. I don't expect for one second for everyone to love them, but

people are quick to see this as the Federation wanting to make a name etc - but lets not forget these events take a lot of time and effort to organise and publicise. As paaji has so rightly said - nothing is stopping anyone else from putting in this effort - SO how about we stop pointing the finger and see if we can do something positive - not just for June but for the other events that paaji has mentioned in his previous post.

We have been given enough time to prepare - how about it? Or is that all we're good at? Pointing the finger when another organisation does something positive, and then gets recognition for it?

Hmm..
