There are many man made rules made by scholars and professors of religion, and I think they are for acceptance and please men and Whaeguruji .When you enter the gurdawar, bow down before the Guru in front of people, every one accepts you, only Guruji knowns whether you a true sikh or not.

Yes a Mosque houses the Qur'an. Muslims do not consider the Qur'an to be their Guru or Prophet but just a book with divine teachings. So most if not all Muslim households will also house Qur'ans.

On the other hand...

Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj is our Guru hazar nazar...

Unlike our Muslim brothers, we do not consider Maharaj to be a book.
