sangat ji i have a question.....what is the meaning uv WAHEGURU?....ive heard it before but i would like as much detail as possible so i will never forget....pleez adn thank you :lol:

This moorakh will try to explain.

Vaheguru = Wonderous is the Lord.

Vah -> similar to you saying WOW...expression of amazement, awe.

He -> O' as in O'Lord.

Guru -> Gu means darkness and Ru means light. Therefore, the Guru is that light which dispells darkness. It can be taken to mean the Almighty God.

So Vaheguru = WOW O' God. (Sounds so much better as Vaheguru though).

Bhai Gurdas Sahib also explained that the root consanants of Vaheguru came from the 4 Great Sages of the 4 Ages:

sathijug sathigur vaasadhaev vaavaa vishanaa naam japaavai||

In Satyug, Visnu in the form of Vasudev is said to have incarnated and ‘V’ Of Vahiguru reminds of Visnu.

The true Guru of dvapar is said to be Harikrsna and ‘H’ of Vahiguru reminds of Hari.

thraethae sathigur raam jee raaraa raam japae sukh paavai||

In the the treta was Ram and ‘R’ of Vahiguru tells that rembering Ram will produce joy and happiness.

kalijug naanak gur gobindh gagaa govindh naam japaavai||

In kalijug, Gobind is in the form of Nanak and ‘G’ of Vahiguru gets Govind recited.

chaarae jaagae chahu jugee panchaaein vich jaae samaavai||

The recitations o f all the four ages subsume in Panchayan i.e. in the soul of the common man.

chaaron ashhar eik kar vaahiguroo jap manthr japaavai||

When joining four letters Vahiguru is remembered,

The jiv merges again in its origin.

(Vaaran Bhai Gurdas, Vaar 1 Pauri 49).

Therefore, Vaheguru is that word, that Gurmantar, which can unite the being with the Almighty. How it does this is explained by Bhai Sahib later:

vaahiguroo guroo manthr hai jap houmain khoee||

His Guru-manta is Vahiguru, whose recitation erases egotism.

(Vaaran Bhai Gurdas, Vaar 13 Pauri 2).

By erasing that ego, what is left is the Almighty.
