it was basically whoever server the Guru the most and whoever the Guru knew had Guru qualities, Guru Nanak Dev ji didnt give his sons the Gaddi because the did not serve the guru, same with the other guru, Like Ram Rai elder son of Guru Har Rai Sahib served the guru but he wanted the gaddi for the wrong reasons, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib was The son of the Sixth Guru look how long they had to wait before they got the Gaddi, its just a question of seva

Satguru ki seva safal hae je ko kare chith lae

Fruitfull is the selfless service of the true guru if one does it with a sincere mind

There is a reason why all the Guru's were male..

Back in them days, no-one used to listen to women. If a female came as a Guru then no-one would take them seriously.

Also, it doesn't really matter about the body of the Gurus.. after all they are only vessels - We should focus on the Amrit Naam inside the vessels.

Anyway, this matter is solved by putting Guru Ji's jyot into Guru Granth Sahib Ji, which is in form of a book - Genderless.

It is suggested that you should read the Sikh history to see how women played a big part.

Bibi Nanaki first recognised Guru Nanak Dev Ji's uniqueness.

It was because of Bibi Amro Ji's beautiful singing of Gurbani that inspired Bhai Amar Das to meet and serve Guru Angad Dev Ji, resulting in Gurgaddhi being passed onto him.

It was because of Bibi Bhani Kaur's teachings that her son, Guru Arjun Dev Ji, became worthy of being the 5th Guru Nanak..

Mai Bhago was the army general of the 40 Soldiers (aka 40 Mukte)

Mata Sahib Kaur Ji added the pataasse into Amrit at the first amrit sanchar and it was her who gave such power and lessons to the Chhotte Sahibzaade to stay strong against the Mughal Emporer.

Others include Bibi Deep Kaur and so many other Singhnis who had thier children cut up infront of their eyes. All the mothers who had organs of their beautiful children put into their mouths and tied as a necklace around their heads. It was these women that stayed chardi kala even while grinding wheat day in day out, with one roti per day!

So to answer the question "Why didn't we have any women Gurus?" - Why should we have?

But he wasn't worthy of Gurgaddhi.

Baba Sri Chand spent his life also spreading the message of his father Guru Nanak, He decided to keep his path separate from that Guru Nanaks, and He took upon the sroop of Udasi. Sikhs today think that Sri Chand went against his fathers wishes this is not true. Baba Sri Chand did not seek to be Guru. This mind set shows a growing intolerance within the Sikh religion today towards diversity and equality.

people need to get it through their head that the physical body had NO importance at all. its the message people not the medium. but for reason, look at the society settings of the time and you will get your answer. our guru's firmly believed that change must come from within. so if you gonna change the society then you gotta become part of it first.

these kinda bibia really make me sad, they dont look at all the things guru's did for bibia like themselves, only if they read asa di vaar once in their lifetime they would realize how much importance guru's have given women.

PS i have yet to see women of other faiths complain about this.

Sure Baba Siri Chand served the Guru. When GuruJi asked him to carry grass from the fields to feed the animals back at the homestead, he refused because he could not get his clothes dirty. Another time GuruJi was taking a bath in the river and his bowl rolled off into a muddy water hole and he refused to pick it up again, guess who did both tasks without personally being asked? ............"Bhai Lehna/Guru Angad Dev Ji"

Baba Siri Chand was given the udasis title out of pity. Baba Siri Chand was basically had hindu ways with Sikh knowledge{JapJi} of Wahegurus creation. He put alot of importance on yoga of which Guru Nanak said was of no avail.

What about Baba Lakshmi????? You say he was pious too??????????????
