what about the chand what does thar represent?

The Aad Chand is the symbolism for Shiv and Shakti it actually predates Sikhi. The Sword is the masculine and the moon is the feminine. This was the first primary concept of worship in the Indus Valley it also predates the Vedas. This is one of the symbols of Shiv and Shakti very similar to the Yin-Yan concept.

It is different to the Kanda symbol of today which represents concept of Amrit as symbol of the central kanda, the Miri and Piri swords, the central Chukar which represents union, continuity of the Almighty.
