Sikhs Seek Constitutional Amendment

New Delhi, Sept. 17 (PTI): Sikh religious leaders, who accuse the RSS of attempting to portray their faith as part of Hinduism, today pressed their demand for a constitutional amendment to classify their faith as a distinct religion.

They denounced the Sangh for stating in its mouthpiece Organiser that the Guru Granth Sahib is known for its salutations to Lord Ram.

"The RSS has been repeatedly trying to portray Sikhism as part of the Hindu religion and we have been repeatedly condemning these statements.

"We would request the government to amend Article 25 of the Constitution to establish that Sikhism is a separate religion," Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) leader Harvinder Singh Sarna told reporters here.

He also demanded a separate marriage law to govern Sikh weddings.

The DSGMC leader, whose party is opposed to the BJP and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, rejected suggestions that Sikh religious texts carried praise of Lord Ram.

"They are those scholars who, for their own vested interests, have denied the role of a Brahmin courtier in the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev (the fifth Guru). Sikh doctrine is solely based on monotheism," Sarna said when asked that some Sikh scholars do agree with what the Sangh journal has written in its latest issue.

Last year, the DSGMC had called for a Sikh boycott of the BJP over senior party leader Sushma Swaraj's comments endorsed by some prominent Sikh scholars, that Chandu, a Hindu courtier, had no major role in the execution of Guru Arjan Dev under Mughal order. Chandu, it said, was the main conspirator.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!!!

I feel sorry for these 'so called' Hindus (and this goes for all the other missionary religions) who show no respect for God but total respect for their self created religions, which are just a egotistical mockery of what i assume is their true religion. They claim to be spreading the word of God, but in reality they chase quantity of followers, not quality like our Gurus sought. They show neither love or fear of God, and ultimately they will fail the journey of life in the end. As someone said in Sikhi Camp this year (i forgot who), 'we came here to correct ourselves, not other people'. I guess these thoughts on life are not shared by self willed manmukhs.

It seems with the independence of India, brahmins are making up for the lost centuries of mughal and british rule. This hindu fanatical revival isnt going to cease any time soon! Just as hindus tried to manipulate buddhism and jainism and eventually led to the almost outcasting of buddhism from India. I fear Sikhs without Gurbani and knowledge of our history 'may' meet the same fate. I say 'may' because, we are lions and princesses after all. I doubt Akal Purkh Di Faujh will take it lying down....hmmm.....I say 'doubt' but what i really mean is they 'wont'. How do i know?....well...read ur history!!

There is a petition on the UK govt website attemting to ban the RSS from setting up in the UK. Those of you who havent signed it, PLSSSS do! I know there are so many of us who wish we could do something to help our brothers and sisters in punjab, the least we can do is do our bit over here in the UK.

Sorry if I offended anyone in the above post. It was meant to open eyes not encourage 'an eye for an eye'.

Bhull chuk marf Sangat Ji.

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh!!!
