vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh

All is quiet in the GV section : )

Kabīr gāgar jal bẖarī āj kāliĥ jaihai fūt.

Kabeer, the pitcher is full of water; it will break, today or tomorrow.

Gur jo na cẖīṯeh āpno aḏẖ mājẖ lījhigė lūt.

Those who do not remember their Guru, shall be plundered on the way.

ਗਾਗਰਿ = pitcher; ਜਲ = water; ਭਰੀ = full; ਆਜੁ = today; ਕਾਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ = tomorrow; ਫੂਟਿ = break; ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ = do not remember; ਮਾਝਿ = on the way, in between; ਲੀਜਹਿਗੇ = take; ਲੂਟਿ = loot.

This Salok is similar to one we saw a while ago about a broken boat. The pitcher is our body, which at the moment is functioning reasonably well - full of water, full of life. We think our existence is based on the physical-ness of the world - what we see, hear, feel etc - and for all those things we rely on our bodies. Guru Saheb tells us that life is more than that, and that our body is only a temporary vessel which we have borrowed from Maharaj, in order to get us across this world-ocean. Bhagat Kabeer Ji reinforces this point here.

We know that our lives could end today/tomorrow - if we're knocked down by a car, if we smack our head off a wall, have a heart attack, spontaneously combust etc. But even when we're told so many times, it's rare to actually remember it throughout the day. We're focusing on it now, but as soon as our mind is diverted by food/friends/work, Akaal Purakh and His sweet guidance drifts into the Less-Important/Things-To-Deal-With-Later Compartment of our brains. With Guru Ji's help, we can learn to think outside the box of our worldy business, and to see life as something more important and valuable than just working or playing. we need to try and remember this as often as possible - and Guru Saheb does send us reminders; the key is to recognise them - when a plant dies, a baby is born, a cloud passes by. Any momenet we're going to pass by from this place too - so we better get cracking in making the most of our time here.

Someone once asked me, 'Doesn't being religious interfere with your life?' The point is to make Gursikhi our life, because we would have no life without our King. Our existence and spirituality go hand in hand, with both hands being from the same person. If one hand is missing, it seems incomplete. If we don't recognise this, then we might as well throw ourselves off a glacier here and now. It might sound harsh, but Guru Saheb has taught us to see, speak and hear only the Truth - his Sikhs can handle the Truth.

Ḏulabẖ ḏėh pāī vadbẖāgī.

This human body is so difficult to obtain; it is only obtained by great good fortune.

Nām na jāpeh ṯė āṯam gẖāṯī.

Those who do not meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are murderers of the soul. ||1||

Mar na jāhī jinā bisraṯ rām.

Those who forget the Lord might just as well die.

Nām bihūn jīvan kaun kām.

Without the Naam, of what use are their lives?

Kẖāṯ pīṯ kẖėlaṯ hasaṯ bisthār.

Eating, drinking, playing, laughing and showing off -

Kavan arath mirṯak sīgār.

what use are the ostentatious displays of the dead?

Jo na suneh jas parmānanḏā.

Those who do not listen to the Praises of the Lord of supreme bliss,

Pas pankẖī ṯarigaḏ jon ṯė manḏā.

are worse off than beasts, birds or creeping creatures.

Kaho Nānak gur manṯar driṛāiā.

Says Nanak, the GurMantra has been implanted within me;

Kėval nām riḏ māhi samāiā.

the Name alone is contained within my heart.

We're wasting our time, wandering aimlessly if we don't do some good, if we don't remember what Guru Saheb tells us. Bhagat Kabeer Ji says that our pitchers will break, before we even realise it - and all the water will spill, out of our reach, lost. Our life is diminshing day by day and, if we don't try to live every breath as if it were our last, we're losing this life game. All the good karams we've had from previous janams are looted, plundered away.

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
