Satnam...

Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa, Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh

Why do some of the sikh say 'Satnam' instead of 'Vaaheguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa, Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh'? Because in Sikh Student camp, there was a singh (think he was chinese) and everytime he finished a yoga lesson he said 'satnam' to us instead of saying the fateh, and everyone was confused on what to reply back so we just kind of turned around without sayin anything....does anyone know why they say satnam to start or end a conversation?

aagae aavath si(n)gh j paavai || vaahiguroo kee fathae bulaavai ||

Whenever he sees another Singh approaching at a distance. He greets him with 'Vaheguru Jee Kaa Khalsa! Vaheguru Jee Kee Fatheh!!'

The 3HO singhs use the greeting satnaam , but that is not a Sikhi greeting hukam is that we use the above .

Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!

Actually , it doesn't say that at all does it?

aagae aavath si(n)gh j paavai || vaahiguroo kee fathae bulaavai ||

That litlerally means when a Singh comes, say "Waheguroo's fateh"

That hukam I dont believe was written by our gurus, nor put into the SGGS. A greeting is a greeting.

Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!

you can use Sat Nam , just like some sikhs who arnt amritdhari always say Sat sri akal instead of a full fateh................

also Sat Nam is a very powerful mantra which is closely linked to kundalini yoga........this is why they say it to greet or when answering the phone.......it isnt a replacement of the Fateh.........

from my experience many usually reply in full fateh if you greet them with it .............but if your gona keep bumping into them like at a camp theres nothing wrong with saying Sat Nam.

we should implement it when we arent gona say fateh ........ and yea you can reply with vaheguru..............

some apnai dont every say sat sri akal properly, its like a sasrikal.....lol

some people shorten it to khalsa fateh as well, i duno whats so hard about saying it out in full

that's lame....

the cool thing about saying "Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh!", is that you get to say Waheguru 2x every time you see another Sikh! it's like extra bonus naam jap! :D

kill the infidels

:D that's why i love you man. lol... kill them all and let God sort them out!
