Personally, I think the only reason your Kes is greasy and forms dead skin is becuase your not washing your Kes everyday. I reakon just becuase we all live in the western world we don't like using thehl (saroo'hn dhaa thehl). Before you wash your Kes, apaneh Kes'n vich sarooh'n dhaa thehl chushee (rub sarooh'n dhaa thehl in your Kes and on to your hair). Leave it for about a hour so it reaches to your roots etc. Then wash it down with warm water.

I don't know how fresh the natural yogurt is here in the western world but in India, they sometimes use yogurt to wash their Kes, supposed to be good for it too.

Daily kesh ishnaan is a compulsory rehat for all amritdharis, as is keeping amritvela, so wake up at amritvela, wash your kesh, and whilst you do your simran, your hair will dry in a few hours. You might want to see your GP though because your condition soundsa bit out of the ordinary.

the original poster said they can't wash everyday, so theres really no point suggesting that :)

Comb your hair twice a day, both times spread abit of coconut oil on your scalp hair and the rest of it then just comb as normal. Make sure you are combing your scalp properly to ensure that blood circulation there is going well, that way less of it will die and flake.

Is your kesh covered at all times? Especially while sleeping. I don't know whether or not you wear a dastar (man/woman?)? Obviously if you do then tie a keski at night, if not, just get your hair together neatly and tie a patka.

any way if its really that bad, you could always wash in the evening, or in any case the weekends.

do you use any kind of oil in your kesh.... i would recomend you to use either coconut or aamlaa da tel (oil).... this wont let ur head skin go dry even if your kesh are dry.

do you have greasy skin in general or is it only affecting the scalp? do you suffer from acne at all?

are you suffering from excessive hairloss at all?

how long has this been happening for? (months, weeks, years, ever since u can remember?)

you *may* have a fungal infection that could cause dandraff (not greasy scalp though). if this is the case, go to your pharmacist and get some shampoo with Ketoconozole in it. it may help but follow the instructions carefully.

if that doesn't help, dry a shampoo called Dermax (buy it online as it is difficult to get in the shops no matter how hard u look. note, don't buy dermac which is an anti-lice shampoo!). leave this shampoo in your hair for about 20minutes-1hour (it is perfectly safe, just cover your hair in a towel and come out of the bath) and then rinse it out (don't follow instructions on the packet in this one, listen to me).

if none of these tips work, it could potentially be normal for you if it is long-standing. but it could also be due to a medical reason which woud be v.difficult to judge and diagnose from a history alone. please please see your gp/physician and if they can't help ask for a referral to a dermatologist.

long hair means regular combing. Combing hair twice a day with a simple comb which has teeth broadly spaced apart.

atleast comb hair 100 times morning and evening *each* to remove all the dead skin and dirt out of hair.

shampoo and oiling need not be done daily in my opinion. Only shampoo, conditioning and oiling once or twice a week should be sufficient.

clean the comb once in two days with a sharp object else the comb gets very dirty.

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
