White Americans will not be a majority by 2042 in the United States.

Washington, Aug 14

White people will cease to be a majority by 2042 in the United States, eight years sooner than projected earlier, according to US Census Bureau.

By then Americans who identify themselves as Hispanic, Black, Asian, American Indian, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander will outnumber non-Hispanic whites.

"No other country has experienced such a rapid racial and ethnic change," said Mark Mather, a demographer with the Population Reference Bureau, a research organisation in Washington.

This transformation is driven by immigration and higher birth rate among migrants, mainly Hispanics. Immigration is expected to be an issue in the upcoming elections.

The US has nearly 305 million people today. The population is expected to hit 400 million in 2039 and 439 million in 2050.

By 2050, Whites will make up 46% of the population and Blacks wil make up 15%, a relatively small increase from today. Hispanics who make up 15% of the population today will account for 30% in 2050 revealed the new research.
