Christians in India face prospect of more attacks by extremists

Attacks on nuns, churches and Christian refugees across India are stoking fears that Hindu extremists are planning to target minority communities as the country prepares for a general election.

The worst anti-Christian violence in India since independence 60 years ago came in Kandhamal district, in the state of Orissa, in recent weeks. Hindu fanatics attempted to poison water sources at relief camps holding at least 15,000 people displaced by mob violence, local activists alleged. Hundreds of Christian refugees in the region were told not to return to their homes unless they converted to Hinduism.

In Chattisgarh, central India, two nuns from the Missionaries of Charity, the order founded by Mother Teresa, were beaten by a mob when they took four orphans to an adoption centre.

A spokesman for the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India said: “These nuns are known for spending their life for the service of the poorest of the poor in the world. In India most of the beneficiaries of their services belong to the Hindu society.”

A church was burnt down in Karnataka, southern India, the state that recorded the highest number of anti-Christian incidents in India last year. There were also reports of violence in Madhya Pradesh, central India.

The Catholic Church said that at least 35 people — many of them burnt alive — had been killed by Hindu extremists in Orissa since August 23. It is feared that the country is on course for an even greater tragedy as hardline groups seek to mobilise support in an election year. The deadline for the general election is next May. A UN investigation gave warning that India was in danger of a repeat of the anti-Muslim riots in Gujarat in 2002, which claimed 2,500 lives.

Asma Jahangir, a special rapporteur on religious freedom for the UN, said: “There is a real risk that similar communal violence might happen again unless incitement to religious hatred and political exploitation of communal tensions are effectively prevented.”

She added: “Organised groups based on religious ideologies have unleashed the fear of mob violence in many parts of the country.”

The crisis in Orissa began over the murder of Swami Laxmananda Saraswati, a local figurehead for the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), an extremist Hindu group. Saraswati had campaigned against the alleged forced conversion of poor Hindus to Christianity by Western-backed missionaries. Hindu extremists dismissed a claim of responsibility from Maoist militants for the murder and blamed Christians. They refused to condemn the murder of Christians that followed.

Gauri Prasad Rath, the president of the VHP in Orissa, said: “I do not condemn the violence against Christians. I condemn the killing of Hindu sage Swami Laxmananda Saraswati ... Christians killed him.”

The decision to take the body of Saraswati on a two-day procession of the state led to the violence when the ceremony was used as an anti-Christian rally. It is believed to have been sanctioned by the RSS, an influential Hindu fundamentalist group that holds sway over the BJP, the largest Indian opposition party.

Some moderate Hindus suggested that the RSS exploited the murder of Saraswati for political ends - a course of events that would echo UN warnings on “political exploitation of communal tensions”.

“The murder of Saraswati was a gift for the RSS,” Dhirendra Panda, a Hindu member of the Committee for Communal Harmony in Bhubaneswar, an independent civil group, said. “They will decide when the violence ends.”

It's hard to say it but this is actually a good thing for us because when dharm yudh starts again the more goreh that know about suppression of other religious beliefs in India other than hinduism the better. The more Christians that are attacked and the more press they get the more support from the west we'll have. The dumb RSS and affiliates don't know that they're helping the Khalistani cause with each person they attack. They''ll realize when they lose the breadbasket of India though.

This is nothing to do with 'religion', this is to do with low caste Hindus who have rejected the Laws of Manu and are exerting their human rights through Christianity and in the process have upset the Hinduvata Agenda!

Hinduism with its brand of racism has only itself to blame when low caste Hindus rejects its doctrine and convert to Christianity, Buddhism, Sikhism.

This will fuel the Naxalite rebellion and this is what is is a rebellion and the start the of a civil war. The low caste are the majority in India and as history as taught us all Empires with a tyrannical agenda come to a bloody and swift end such as the Romans, Ottomans, Nazi Germany, Fascist Japan. I regularly speak to white South Africans who have now settled in the UK, their main reason for emigrating is the fear of being the victims of crime by the hands of the black majority. The blacks make up 90% of the population. When this many people feel they have a score to settle the outcome unfortunately is always bloody with vast numbers dead, wounded, burnt out their homes. Yet a generation ago in apartheid South Africa the likes of Biko, Tutu, Mandela were killed, exiled or imprisoned.

My advice to the Brahmanical Hierarchy allow the Dalits freedom, economic and social well being, re-distribute wealth, water, land, housing, appoint them in positions of power, arts, culture sports and therefore avoid a civil war.

Long Live the Khalsa!!!

Things in India are going to get REALLY REALLLY REALLY UGLY in the near future. Right now the hindu extremists enjoy the mob as well as government support. This will not be the case when there will be anarchy and civil war in India in the future. Thats when all these hindu exremists will piss in their pants and run. Naxalites, muslims, pakistan and China are going to ruin India in the future.

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
