The Past Is The Present, Dont Let It Become The Future!

I found a nice article on neverforget84.com and wanted to share it with the sangat: (Daas only made it bit more readable)

Hmm.. Whenever I talk about 84 Delhi iots, Ghallughara, Shaheeds, their families, and inhumane torture they suffered... Many of them say.. “Uhh...Why do you always talk about this depressing stuff, it was the past..!!”

But WAS IT THE PAST?? I don't think so.. As a kid, I knew nothing about Khalistan Movement, and it is strange because my family was part of it. My chacha ji was a Shaheed and I was told that he fought for "Azadi" which is true but the only Azadi I knew of was Hindustani Azadi from British, lol

Things are different know since I have educated myself about our painful "past". Sadly it is our present for most of us. Those people who haven't seen the suffering of those ‘Shaheeds' parents.... their children who are now in orphanages denied equal opportunities. Living like that because the person who is supposed to care of them "cant". Because that person gave up his life years ago so that your present could be prosperous, so that you and your children can know what liberty is.

That past can't possibly be called the past because of number of reasons. Struggle is still going on. Most of you are aware of the what is becoming of our Punjab. The place which was meant for Khalsas, isn't pure and beautiful anymore.. All one can smell there is cigarettes. All one sees there is "Thekey" (liquor shops). Is that what Guru Gobind Singh ji wanted Khalsa Dharti to be like? Khalsa Raj is important, the fight is going on. It will only end when Khalsa will be revived, the Khalsa Raj that was taken away from us by British then and now Hindustanis will be back.

I don't want to start talking about the need of Khalistan. Most of you know it better than I do :!:

I want to talk about how the pain still lives in the hearts of those who suffered great loss at that time.. I cant say that it is fear, but I really don't know what it is.

My daddy, whose brother is a Shaheed, supports Khalistan. He can't talk about my Chacha ji without having glittery eyes. He doesn't like talking about that time period. We all have hard time talking about stuff like that but my dad is the kind of person who isn't scared of anyone but waheguru. He was always my hero. Whenever I got scared all I needed was his assurance. I am sure he doesn't fear anything. But I think that the stuff that happened then has psychologically made a big impact on him. I was siting right next to him on the couch and we were talking about gurbani I think or maybe school.. I am not sure.. but he got quiet all of sudden.. and then he looked at me with his glittery eyes and said...

"putt..mei baut thak geya, sare kuch to jo kuch hoya..

mei bot thuk geya saara kuch soch soch key

dekh dekh key.hun menu eh nai chaida..

hun mei sukh lena chona va.

.bas gurbani parna chona."

"Son, I'm very tired now, with everything that happened...

I'm very tired thinking about all what happened...

All what I saw... I don't want that anymore...

I want to have the bliss of life now.

Just read Gurbani..."

I didn't know what to say... I was ... Because my daddy is the kind of person who doesn't really express himself. He keeps things inside. I am still not sure.. What he meant to say was he trying to say that he has fallen weak due to the "past" or was it fear?

Did he say that because he is tired?? or did he mean to say that he is tired of the fight!! or struggle!! I don't know!!

I am sure that it isn't just my dad who worries so much lives with those bad memories.. all I am trying to say though is that you may think that it is the past but for some people it is the present because of those families of the Shaheeds families living in poverty, those fighters locked up in jails, cells and cages. Those orphans who are denied oppertunities..and kids lacking fatherly love..

I urge you, my brothers and sisters keep figting for liberty it is our right.. dont let punjab be killed by the hands of some overweight politicians

    • Part of the problem is the hostilities between India and Pakistan. If the border were open, Amritsar would easily become a huge trading city. Secondly, the National Highways Authority of India is constructing a new 6-lane expressway from Kashmir, through Amritsar/Jalandhar/Ludhiana to Dehli which will be part of the Ludhiana-Delhi-Kolkatta Industrial Corridor.  Maps of the New Silk Road show Kolkata as a key part of the "road". The Punjab to Kolkata expressway and rail connections will fulfill the ability to hook up to the New Silk Road.  In addition, while crossing to Pakistan via AH1 (Asian Highway 1) is difficult, India does connect to AH1 on the other side, towards the East. Finally, Punjab can trade with the world via Mundra port in Gujurat. Rail to Mundra, then sea onwards. Dubai is very close with a free port. If you send products to Iran, there are ground links onward to Europe.
    • Yeah, that's one possibility. Another I initially thought is that it's a Muslim trying to gather info. But then, you might ask, how does he know about Sikh textual sources. Well, you'd be surprised at their resourcefulness. A final possibility is he's a weak Sikh who was asked a question by a non-Sikh and now he's suddenly feverishly wondering where it's "written" that you can't marry a young child. To the latter, I would say, you're looking in the wrong spot. Gurbani isn't a 1428 page rulebook, like Leviticus or the Vedas: ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਪੁੰਨ ਪਾਪ ਬੀਚਾਰਦੇ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ The Simritis and Shastras discriminate between charity and sin, but know not the essence of the Real Thing. Without the Guru, they know not the essence of the Reality, know not the essence of the Reality. Anand Sahib.
    • You're confusing two different things: One is merely adding starch to a turban to get a certain feel to the fabric. The other is tying your turban once and taking it off like a hat. It is this that people have a problem with. What's wrong with it is that Rehit says to tie your turban afresh every time. If you ask, "Where is that written?", it's written in Bhai Nand Lal ji's Rehitnama. @ipledgeblue didn't just make it up. Umm, no, bro. We're not evangelical Christians like President George W Bush of the US claiming to "talk to God" who told him to invade Iraq. "Speaking to him directly" basically ends up being doing whatever you feel like with the excuse that Guru ji told you to do it. If you still want to take your turban off like a hat, feel free to do so, but don't claim that it's Rehit.
    • You don't need to wear either a pag or dumalla in the gym. You can simply wear a meter or 1.5m small turban (gol pagg or round turban). It doesn't come off.
    • The reason you don't see anything wrong with it is because like a fish in water, you grew up in Western culture and imbibed it fully. It's very difficult to for parents to inculcate traditional culture while in the West. The reason there is a problem is because a kiss between a man and wife is a sexual act (I didn't say it's coitus, but it's still sexual.) By contrast a kiss between a mother and a child, for example, is not sexual. And in our culture, sexual acts are not allowed in public. Goras do allow it. And that's also the reason they have gay pride parades now with people walking around naked with children in attendance and so forth.
