Dal Khalsa undertakes march for Khalistan

Amritsar April 29, 2004 4:44:44 PM IST

Dal Khalsa, a radical Sikh organization, began a week-long Khalsa Freedom March from the Akal Takht here today amidst tight security.

The march is likely to pass through all the major towns and villages of Punjab.

Speaking before the march got underway, Harcharanjit Singh Dhami, the working president of the Dal Khalsa, claimed that they were not working againt India.

"We preach and propogate what is in favour of Sikhs and if that goes against, we are not concerned," he said.

He said that Sikhs wanted freedom and to have their own governance.

The march began after ardas was performed at the Akal Takht.

On the occasion, the next of kin of the so called "Martyrs" of Operation Blue Star (June 1984) were honoured with siropas and mementos. (ANI)
