SSA All,

Am off to India in June for two weeks. Had a tough, rough year. Too many things happened and too much work done. So i need a break.

So what can i do in punjab+surrounding areas for two weeks?

All my nieces and nephews (sisters kids, all ages below 10 yrs) will be on summer holidays and will be coming to our house. So please tell me what kind of places i can take them to.

Already been to : Hawaili in Jalandhar

Ever been to Uttar Pradesh?

Visit Gurudwara Shri Nanak Mata Sahib...

It is located in the district of Uddam Singh Nagar (Rudrapur), UP.

Maharaj Ji went to this place with Bhai Mardana Ji on his third Udasi. At that time it was was called Gorakhmata and was under the control of Sidhs. These Sidhs used their occult powers to loot the poor people around this area. Maharaj Ji went to this place in the winter season, so it was quite cold. Maharaj Ji sat under a Pipal tree and went Samadhi Leen, however, Bhai Mardana Ji felt cold. Bhai Mardana Ji saw these sidhs and asked them to lit him a fire for warmth. However, these Sidhs ridculed him and said 'ask your Guru'. Maharaj Ji at once lit a fire for Bhai Mardana Ji. The weather changed and all the sudden, it started to rain. The fires lit by Sidhs were all gone out from the rain but the fire lit by Maharaj Ji remained 'lit'. This surprised the Sidhs and they apologized the next morning, however, they were still proud of their powers and went on showing them OFF. They tried to lift up the Pipal tree, same tree under which Maharaj Ji sat and meditated, from its roots. Maharaj Ji placed his hand on the tree and it stopped wherever it was. You can still see this tree at the Gurudwara Sahib and it's roots are still somewhat out. But it's there. These Sidhs gave up their ways after apologizing again and starting meditating in his love instead for these so called powers. The Sidhs after receiving 'Mat' from Maharaj Ji changed the name of this place to Nanak Mata.

Sahib Shri Guru Hargobind Maharaj Ji also went to Nanak Mata Sahib. He had to since these Sidhs once again occupied this now 'Holy' land which Shri Nanak Sahib touched with his Holy Charan. These Sidhs left when Maharaj Ji again went there in his sixth form. The tree at that time was dead...It dried up.

You know how all you saints experience the state of 'Bairaag' in his love? :)

Thats what happened to the tree. After Maharaj left it dried up in his love. And when Maharaj Ji came back in his sixth form, he touched the tree. And it was brought to life again. It was green again. It's all about love. That tree must be blessed...such love. Waheguru. It was the tree calling Maharaj Ji, the sidhs occuping the land was just a Choj. Nothing else...

Also, now if you visit...There is a water body behind the Gurudwara Sahib. It's called Shri Nanak Sagar. Bhai Mardana Ji was thirsty and there was no sign of water. He complained to Maharaj Ji about his thirst. Maharaj Ji said 'Mardane saade naal chaleah chal, piche mur ke na dekhin.' Bhai Maradana got so curious that he ended up looking back. A whole river had followed them from the point where they started walking to the Gurudwara Sahib. It stopped when Bhai Mardana Ji looked back. Maharaj Ji laughed and said 'asin kya si ke piche mur ke na dekhi, hun dekh tun naadi rok ti.' Bhai Mardana Ji was speechless in his love and drank the water in gratitute. This water body is there still flowing for the love of the divine and his devotee. Maharaj Ji and Bhai Mardana Ji.

Oh gosh...I wrote so much. Sowwie. :p

Nehmat brother, as far as I think Uddham Singh Nagar is not in Uttar Pradesh anymore but is in the newly created state of Uttaranchal (now Uttarakhand).

Uttarachal has a big Sikh farmer population, although after the seperation from UP many of them lost their fields to the corrupt Indian Govt. I don't think anything has happened till date.

take ur nieces to harrys world...a theme park like wonderland in Ludhiana...

or the science city in Jalandhar...its pretty good by India standards....

other options could be Gurdwara Medthiana Sahib in Jagraon (Near Nanaksar HQ). They have statues of sikh Shaheeds at the Gurdwara Sahib and is a good way to engage young kids into Sikhi and sakhiya.

Haweli is over-rated and isn't all that. I know nobody needs to know but I got diarrhoea after eating there :o

Like Azaad said you should definitely go to Gurdwara Mehtiana Sahib and Bhagat Pooran Singh Jee's charity hospital near Amritsar. Also don't forget to eat roti, daal and sabji at the punjabi dhabhe yummy!

Have a nice trip. We'll be waiting for your pictures :)

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
