The Real Amrit

Recommended Posts

EkOnkaar Satnaam

No ordinary man can not give us amrit. Amrit is god that is within us, so only he can give it.

Guru Gobind Singh was a SatGuru, living god on earth so he had the power to give them amrit and that is what he did. He enlightned those five loved ones and gave them amrit.

Amrit is inside us, just going and taking initiation at the gurudwara doesn't mean we are amrit-dharee. Amrit is God therefore amrit-dhari would mean a God-realised soul and only such a soul has the capability and power to give that amrit to others.

However the panj pyaare that give us the amrit and naam are satguru as well then that it is fine. But if they are ordinary people who are still operating under maya like us, if they haven't conquered their own mind, if they are not one with god, how can they give us amrit?

It is very simple, but it has become very complicated!

thank you for listening, god bless you all!

There are 3 beliefs regarding this topic. In decreasing order of avastha (spiritual status) of the Panj Singhs:

1. Some people believe that the 5 piyare have to have some high level of spirituality themselves in order to be able to share some with the initiates.

2. Some people believe that the 5 piyare merely have to be rehitvan -- keep 5k, do 5 banis, don't do 4 big kurehits, and generally be a good, average Sikh, not jeevan-mukt or anything like that.

3. Some people believe that the Amrit process is valid for the initiate even if one or more of the 5 singhs might be lax in their rehit or even have committed a kurehit.

#3 is somewhat reminiscent of the Catholic believe that a confession or other Catholic sanskar is valid even though the priest may have fallen out of grace w/ God or the Church. In this belief, it's only the faith of the initiate that matters.

In any case, you should remember that the 5 do ardas to Guruji to do kirpa. So the puran Guru still has a role to play even if the 5 may be incomplete. In the 10 bodies, Guruji didn't have to do ardas to anybody because they were Satguru themselves and also didn't have to follow any set maryada because they themselves create the maryada.

It is quite simple really.

The Guru resides in the panj piaray.

When panj rehatwaan gursikhs, who are chosen by the jathedhaar and with concensus from the sangat, prepare for amrit sanchaar and they do full ardaas then the spirit of Guru Gobind Singh Ji resides in the panj, so it is Guru Ji who is giving the amrit.
