As Laloo Prasad Yadav kept tomtoming that he would cleanse the Railways of all ills, four constables of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) allegedly went about raping a mother of three who had approached them for a room on rent for her family.

The shocking gang-rape took place at the RPF staff quarters in the Daya Basti area of North District on Thursday evening. The police registered a case of rape against the four RPF men and arrested one of them later. Police sources said the other three would be apprehended soon.

The victim, 35, a native of Bihar, is a mother of three. Her husband works at a factory. She had reportedly gone to Daya Basti looking for new accommodation as she has been asked to vacate her present home at Sarai Rohilla by the landlord. She had left her children behind when she went out, searching for a new place.

As she was moving about in the colony, one of the constables, Jahan Singh, spotted her and quickly figured out that she was new to the are. He then enticed her with the promise of finding her a new place, and got her into his staff quarter where three of his colleagues - Karambir, Harshbir and one yet to be identified - arrived. Thereafter, they took turns to rape her.

The traumatised woman, who contacted the police in the night, was later sent to the Bara Hindu Rao hospital for medi

cal examination. The police is waiting for a medical report before taking further action, said a senior police official of the North District.
