Amritsar, 29 (PTI) Several Sikh organisations today said any attempt

to tamper with the Nanakshahi calendar was unacceptable and

intolerable and demanded a conclave to discuss the issue.

These bodies asked the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the

Sikhs, and the SGPC, the apex religious body, to convene a conclave

to discuss proposed amendments in the Nanakshahi calendar.

The Nanakshahi calendar was community's valuable asset and no one had

a right or monopoly to amend or change it, they said in a joint statement here.

The organisations strongly objected to what they alleged attempts to

tamper with the calendar.

These organisations are Dal Khalsa, DSGMC, Shiromani Khalsa

Panchayat, Shiromani Akali dal (Panch Pardani), Sikh Students

Federation, Sikh Youth of Punjab, Akal Federation and Shiromani

Panthic Council.

Our people have been brainwashed to think that a calendar is going to give them a separate identity, whereas in fact, in daily life they act just like the average non-Sikh.

True - they wear Western clothes, will do anything to leave Punjab for the West, use the Western calander in day to day life, yet they think a poorly thought out, random calander is going to help give us an identity. If Guru Ji saw a fault with the bikrami calander, they would have given us a new one themselves.
