Those of my readers who haven’t already been beggared by the unraveling of what’s left of the economy, and have some hope of keeping a roof over their heads for the foreseeable future, might be well advised to stock their pantries, clear their debts, and get to know their neighbors, if they haven’t taken these sensible steps already. Those of my readers who haven’t taken the time already to learn a practical skill or two, well enough that others might be willing to pay or barter for the results, had better get a move on.

i'm surprised people are so flip and casual about this. look up gerald celente, he's a trends forecaster who accurately predicted teh current recession, the dot com bust, the fall of the berlin wall, 9/11, and more. even mahapurkhs are saying there's going to be a major depression.

right now we have a false recovery b/c it's financed entirely by taxpayers. but the more money the govt prints, the less the worth of the dollar, the less purchasing power that dollar has. it's basically a recipe to buy some time but will result in an even greater longer depression.

the first fall was caused by all sorts of loans coming due and people being unable to pay them. now, a very large 'bubble' of loans is about to come due. we'll see if people can pay them given the state of the economy.

"Peak Oil" is nothing more than the age old doomsaying that every generation has (be it nuclear holocaust during the cold-war, the new Millennium computer crashes etc. etc.), it's best not to take to much from these types of predictions of complete global collapse, if you don't know, green energies such as wind turbines, non-fossil fuels are already in use, and in case of an oil crisis, would be more widely spread, it's simply being withheld due to oil companies taking massive profit from the status quo.
