Dog cast(e) away after dalit touch

http://publication.s...689&nextIndex=4

BHOPAL: A dog's life couldn't get worse. A mongrel brought up in an upper caste home in Morena was kicked out after the Rajput family members discovered that their Sheru had eaten a roti from a dalit woman and was now an "untouchable". Next, Sheru was tied to a pole in the village's dalit locality. His controversial case is now pending with the district collector, the state police and the Scheduled Caste Atrocities police station in Morena district of north MP.

The black cur, of no particular pedigree, was accustomed to the creature comforts in the home of its influential Rajput owners in Manikpur village in Morena. Its master, identified by the police as Rampal Singh, is a rich farmer with local political connections.

A week ago Sunita Jatav, a dalit woman, was serving lunch to her farm labourer husband. "There was a 'roti' left over from lunch. I saw the dog roaming and fed it the last bread," Sunita said. "But when Rampal Singh saw me feeding the dog and he grew furious. He yelled: 'Cobbler woman, how dare you feed my dog with your roti?' He rebuked me publicly. I kept quiet thinking the matter would end there. But it got worse," she said.

On Monday, Rampal ex-communicated the dog. A village panchayat was called, whi-ch decided that Sheru would now have to live with Sunita and her family because it had become an untouchable. Sunita Jatav was fined Rs 15,000.

An outraged Sunita and her brother Nahar Singh Jatav rushed to Sumawali police station. They were directed to take the matter to the SC/ST Atrocities police station in Kalyan. "When we went there, the officer asked us why we fed the dog," recalls Nahar. "So we went to the DSP in the SC/ST Atrocities department and submitted a memorandum to him, as also to the district collector. But no one has registered our FIR so far.

DSP SC/ST Atrocities (Morena), Baldev Singh, recalls, "We got a complaint in which it has been alleged that a dog was declared untouchable and a dalit family fined for feeding it. We are investigating the allegation," said the officer.

the only reason caste system still exists in the sikh community..is because of the sheer numbers of hindus we are surrounded by in india...for example in the west we are a small minority surrouned by a majority who have a western culture and values...its in enevitable that their values and culture will rub off on us here in the west...same thing is happening in india...the dominant hindu culture and belief system is rubbing off on to the sikhs awell...the only way to settle this is for these blinded hindus to embrace the path of guru nanak dev ji maharaj and to shun this cruel and backward caste system...THIS JUST SHOWS HOW BAD THE CASTE SYSTEM IS...

This isn't true, plenty of 'Sikh' people in the UK are very casteist. Even ones brought up here with little or no contact with India. They don't have the excuse of being influenced by a majority Hindu population. So, how would you explain that? Blaming Hindus for stupidity amongst apnay takes away any responsibility from our own people to face up to and combat negative practices amongst us?

A lot of 'Sikh' caste problems actually stem from hankaar within us, that is what needs to be addressed. That way we wont produce, weak, lame excuses blaming others for our own bewakoofi.

We can't keep shifting blame for things within our community on others. It is smarter to try and influence the behaviour of our own people (for the better) than try and change the behaviour of any reluctant majority group. That's what I think.

The Akal Takhat and SGPC could lead the way by starting a strong, sustained education campaign against it, if they had the will or desire.

Well, at least for some dogs caste doesnt seem to make any difference:

NEW DELHI — Selva Kumar had been hounded for 15 years by the memory of a horrible act he'd committed as a teenager.

As an 18-year-old he had stoned and clubbed to death two dogs he found engaged in mating. He then hung their carcasses from a tree.

That's when his personal suffering began.

"After that my legs and hands got paralyzed and I lost hearing in one ear," Kumar told the Hindustan Times newspaper.

Kumar, now 33 and living in the southern Indian district of Sivaganga, could no longer take the physical pain of the "dog curse," so he sought the advice of an astrologer.

Her cure for his maladies?

"Marry a dog."

Which is just what Kumar did on Sunday.

In a ceremony befitting a beautiful Indian bride, the <banned word filter activated>, a former 10-year-old stray named "Selvi," was bathed and dressed in a ceremonial orange sari with a garland of flowers adorning her neck. She was then brought to the temple in Tamil Nadu to be presented to Kumar by members of his family.

Kumar, sitting beside his bride, recited his marriage vows, declaring, "I will take care of it until its death." Then, the "couple" was declared married.

Deeply superstitious people in rural India sometimes organize weddings to dogs and other animals, believing it can ward off certain curses.

The Hindustan Times reported Kumar's family hosted a feast — while Selvi dined on a bun.

No word on where the couple would honeymoon or reside, or whether they had registered for gifts.

What about the tons of manmat stuff so-called "Sikhs" do abroad in western countries? Are Hindus forcing them to do that as well? But remember, Hindus who search for the truth will one day ultimately adopt GurSikhi anyways.
