According to trends available from various parts of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh, Shiromani Akali Dal candidates were heading for comfortable wins in most of the constituencies. Elections to three constituencies in Amritsar and Gurdaspur were countermanded after the Punjab Government refused to accept the recommendation of the Chief Commissioner, Gurdwara Elections, for transferring Deputy Commissioners of the two districts, besides shifting three returning officers.

The SAD suffered major reverses in Sangrur and Ropar, where they lost six seats each. In Ropar district, the SAD could win only Anandpur Sahib and lost two seats each in Ropar, besides losing in Morinda and Mohali.

One PCS officer, who contested as an Independent and was later supported by the Shiromani Akali Dal, lost by more than 5000 votes.

According to Dr Daljit Singh Cheema, spokesman of the SAD, the Dal won 127 out of 146 seats in Punjab for which polling w

as held today. Since six of its candidates were declared elected unopposed, its tally in Punjab went up to 133. Panthic Morcha (Search) candidates and Independents won 19 seats so far. Two Panthic Morcha candidates had been declared elected unopposed. In Chandigarh, the lone seat was won by Mr Gurpartap Singh Riar, an Independent, who had opposed the official candidate of the SAD, Mr Amarinder Singh.

Panthic Morcha set to win both Kharar seats

Tribune India

Kharar - Mr Bhajan Singh Shergill and Mr Harnek Singh, both belonging to the Panthic Morcha, are set to be declared elected to the SGPC from the Kharar (General) and Kharar (Reserved) seats, respectively. Polling for the SGPC seats was held today.

Although the results will be declared officially tomorrow, it was learnt that Mr Shergill had won the Kharar (general) seat by a razor thin margin of 145 votes while Mr Harnek Singh had secured around 950 votes more his immediate rival.

When the results were being prepared, supporters of the SAD candidate, Mr Ujjagar Singh Badali, raised slogans against the state government and the local administration. They alleged that Mr Badali had been deliberately deflated on the directions of the government. They announced that they would resort to a “chakka jam” stir tomorrow in protest.

The SDM-cum-Returning Officer, Mr Sukhvinder Singh.

Gill, said that polling in the Kharar SGPC constituency remained peaceful. The overall poll percentage was lower in Kharar and Kurali towns (35 to 40) as compared to the villages (about 55).

Earlier in the day, the turnout of voters remained low in the first two or three hours but increased as the day progressed. At a polling booth set up in Government Elementary School at Mundi Kharar not a single voter had turned up till about 8 a.m. Only nine votes had been cast till about 9 a.m. About 6 per cent of the votes had been polled at various booths till around 11 a.m.

There was tension following reports of an attack at a booth in Sakrulapur village. However, it turned out to be a false alarm. A polling officer, Mr Jaswinder Singh, had suffered a heart attack. He was replaced by a PUDA official, Mr Pavitar Singh.

Confusion over voting right to Sehajdharis

Muktsar - Confusion prevailed among the polling staff over voting right to Seha

jdharis for the SGPC elections held today.

During a visit to several polling booths of Muktsar, Bathinda and Mansa districts, The Tribune team observed that most of the polling staff were not clear whether Sehajdharis would be allowed to vote or not.

The District Returning Officers (DROs) received a fax message from Sikh Gurdwara Election Commission today in which polling staff was asked not to disallow any person, irrespective of Keshdhari or Sehajdhari, from exercising his or her right to vote if he their name was on the voters’ list. The DROs-cum-DCs of Bathinda and Mansa confirmed receiving of the message from the commission in this regard.

However, the message could not be conveyed to most of the presiding officers as they had already reached at different polling booths. The presiding officer at polling booth No 95 at Government Elementary School, Rukhala of in Muktsar district, Mr. Ranjit Singh, said he had not been told about the latest decision.

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

Fully agree with Vicky Singh Veer that the good people should concentrate more on doing seva / helping people so that they can come near to them. The base of Akali Dal led by Badal is very strong and old in Punjab and also people in genral caste their votes for the candidate more than the party.

The other important and decisive factor in such elections is Sant Samaj in Punjab.

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
