Black Cats Part 2

Introduction to the Black Cats

When the freedom movement of Khalistan was at the peak, the Indian government adopted many immoral and insincere policies to suppress the movement. One of such policies was to malign the reputation of the Sikh fighters by forming groups of goons and criminals and sending them to the homes of the Sikhs to carry out immoral activities in disguise of Sikh freedom fighters. Such groups were called “Black Cats”. The intent behind this was to turn the public against the Sikh movement, giving the police more freedom to hunt down Sikhs and kill them in large numbers. These policies were kept at highly secret level. The groups of criminals, dressed as Sikhs, would go to different villages, loot the public and dishonor women. Because of the increasing activities of the Cats the public became aware of these groups. Some reporters managed to get interviews of some of the Cats which greatly exposed the tyrant Indian government. At first the police denied the existence of such groups but as more and more evidence came forward the police had no choice but to tell the truth in which they felt no shame and openly made statements favoring these groups and their activities. The head of Punjab police Julio Ribiero clearly stated in one of the press conference:

“The mission of the government is to eradicate the Sikh movement. Whether it is done legally or illegally, it does not matter. In wartimes law does not matter. What matters is the destruction of the enemy.” (Julio Ribiero)

During his interview with Parteesh Nandi, the editor of Illustrated Weekly, Ribiero briefly explained the purpose and mission of the Black Cats.

Patrolling the areas at night was a big problem. The terrorists (Sikhs fighters) had started to kill the police groups patrolling the areas at night. This presented us a great problem as most of the police parties feared to go out at night. We did not know what to do. At last it was suggested by someone that the police should be sent dressed up as Sikhs. So we hired many young men including those who were weak-minded and joined the Sikh movement for the sole purpose of making money. Then we used to send them to patrol the areas where no police party wanted to go and no person was allowed to leave the house. This made easier for our groups to identify the terrorists and kill them since it would only be the terrorist groups wondering outside. (Julio Ribiero, Illustrated Weekly)

But Ribiero’s statement was fraction of the truth. The misdeeds of the Cats were published in a report in Punjabi Tribune newspaper in 1988. According to the report:

The Black Cats dressed as Sikhs, carrying assault rifles break into anyone’s house. They claim themselves to be the true freedom fighters. They eat and drink there and then dishonor the women of the house. At many places they have picked up many young girls from their homes. When some organizations fighting for human rights come forward to fight this oppression against the police, the activities carried by the Cats are increased dramatically so that the Sikh fighters could be insulted at the same level as that of the police. For some time now these Cats have been successful in blaming their misdeeds on the Sikh freedom fighters. At some places, the Cats go to house of a rich person to dine and wine there. After a few days, they send the police to the same house in the accusation of sheltering the terrorists. When the home owner denies such charges, he is given every little detail of the account. The home owner fearing the torture of the police pays large amount of money to buy his way out. This serves the purpose of making easy money and identifying the people who sympathize with the Sikh movement. (Punjabi Tribune, 1988)

While carrying out the misdeeds wearing white clothes and Kirpans some Cats were captured by the public who told the truth to save their lives. Many people started their campaigns against the police to terminate such groups but the government paid no attention to it. On the contrary, a puppet of the government K. P. Gill openly made the following statement:

Government’s security forces cannot do anything without the help of the Cats. Terminating these groups is out of the questions. (K.P. Gill, India Today)

Many of the Cats were enrolled in Colleges and the Universities so that they could target young educated Sikhs and discourage them from joining the movement. For this purpose the government fully supported the Black Cats. Sikh freedom fighters eliminated many of these groups. Even after the movement had been brought down, the Cats continued to loot and rape. At last the government had no choice but to eliminate them.

A. S. I. Dalbeera

Dalbeera was a resident of village Pakhokay, Taran Taaran. After receiving education from Khadur Sahib and Sports College in Jalandhar, he joined the police. Due to his immoral character he established relations with drug smugglers and made huge amount of money. After a while, he was fired from his job for murdering someone in his drug business. All of this happened in February, 1984. Subsequently, he started hanging around with Sikh freedom fighters and became very close to them after Operation Blue Star.

When the Indian government started forming criminal groups known as Black Cats, Dalbeera was on the top of hiring list. He was not only a mastered criminal but also an ex-police officer who knew all about torture and police brutality. This made him one of the most qualified criminal for the police job. So he was hired back to his post in 1986. He was initially hired under the command of S.S.P. Izhaar Alam and later on worked for S.S.P. Seetal Daas. After he became an experienced criminal he was appointed a leader of a Cat group consisting of about 10 criminals.

Along with his drug smuggling business he became successful in killing many of the top Sikh fighters such as Bhai Paramjit Singh from Taran Taaran, Bhai Ranjit Singh and Bhai Balwinder Singh and picked up Bhai Gurbachan Singh from Mohali and turned him in to the police. His criminal activities turned him into a ruthless killer. He killed Bhai Sukhwinder Singh and Bhai Harinder Singh, companions of Bhai Harjinder Singh Ji Jindha, by shooting them in the back of their heads. It was the same Sikhs who had saved his life couple of years earlier. While he was firing the bullets, one of the police groups was patrolling the area. Upon hearing the fire shots the police showed up and thought Dalbeera was just a regular day killer who was killing for robbery. The police chased after him and fired some shots but no bullet touched Dalbeera. He quickly ran into the house of Julio Ribiero who called the press conference the very next day and made a statement that two terrorists had been killed in a police encounter.

After this incident Dalbeera became the favorite of Ribiero. He was promoted and made an A.S.I. He was given a police car and couple of bodyguards. He was free from reporting to any police station. Dalbeera then increased his activities and started to rob banks, rich people and raping women. He bought land in every major city of Punjab and built his mansions. He was not stopped by any police officer because he used to share his looted wealth with them. One time, he kidnapped some businessmen who were from Jammu and ransomed them for millions of rupees and gold. He kept it all secret from other police officers. Eventually the police officials found out and S.S.P Seetal Das called Dalbeera in his office. S.P. Baldev Brar was there as well. When they asked about the money and gold Dalbeera refused to acknowledge the happenings of the incident. After intense argument Dalbeera pulled out his pistol and killed both police officers. Hearing the sounds of the bullets the guardsmen came running inside and shot Dalbeera dead. Three main officers died at the same time which was a big loss to the government. The news of their death spread all around in Punjab and their misdeeds were exposed to the public. While talking to the news editor of India Today, Ribiero stated:

Death of Dalbeera is a great loss that has done irreplaceable damage to us. Had the two officers not died with him, our activities wouldn’t have been exposed to the public. (India Today, 1988)

    • We have lamp (or Jyot) the pure unscented candle for a reason. Traditionally, Patis used candle light (jyot), so they could read SGGS in darkness. Light, elec didn't exist. Dhoop is used to attract the "Good spirits" but also keep freshness where Maharaj will be.  Interestingly and coincidentally I heard Sakhi a few dsys ago. During Dasa Pitha's time these souls were roaming the Earth and even Sangat noticed. Maharaj asked them "y u here?" They replied during recitation of SGGS and making Degh they didn't bother lighting candle. THAT WAS THEE ONLY REASON NO GATI WAS GIVEN TO THEM!!!  AUTHENTICITY NOT CHECKED I heard once on YT like 2 days ago.  If u apply dhoop in one room of your house twice a week u will notice a difference esp in the smell and freshness of that room.
    • Sangat ji, With the hot weather as per Guru's Hukm, how can we look after our kes?  First of all the beard! Working in Construction, factory and any other heated environment I UNDERSTAND! At my workplace it's over 32 degree celcius and sometimes we have to lift 20kg ALL! DAY! My tips, regularly shampoo the beard during ishnan. APPLY OIL! The technique of applying oil is by rubbing it thoroughly in the roots. Pay attention to the noise esp on the chin. You will hear this "crosh crosh" noise. Keep rubbing oil until u can't hear it no more! This means the oil has blended in properly.  Second tip on beard, keep an extra kanga in your pocket. Every two, three hours give your beard a proper comb down to get rid of any sweat or stickiness. SECOND BENEFIT! Do this all 12 months every single day your beard will look like it's been professionally groomed. TRY IT! People will ask you "What gel u use? How can yer beard be naturally like that?" You can say all I use is coconut oil or whaeva oil but just comb the beard every 2-3 hours for a minute.  As for the kes, morning time get rid of all the gronjra (or knots - forgotten English word), in the morning. However, during evening comb down make sure you get rid of small remaining gronjra and comb yer hair nice and straight. You will feel soooo so relaxed. Yes our hair will go unnoticed due to Dastar, but our hair demands time and self grooming! So proper combing down, spending a good 15-20 mins most evenings is an absolute MUST!  Most evenings I let my hair down and cover hair with my parna for 2-3 hours so it gets to relax from the tying up.  FINAL TIP! We are Sikhs so we keep fighting and remember this! The tradition of Dastar and uncut hair started in India, where the weather is twice as hot. Everytime we bring this thought in the mind, Guru ji will bless us and make us feel cooled down by a notch.  Fateh.
    • Been so much nindya and attacking Shastarvidiya since the 2000s, however if we look at gatka now it's still mostly as poor and poorly taught as it was back then, still morris dancing moves and still behzti moves in BBC shows about sikhi and vaisakhi. If people were going to attack shastarvidiya, wouldn't have made sense to improve gatka instead and make it more effective? Additionally, the Nihang Singh presence has improved greatly now, and the cracks within the the SGPC and affiliated jatha jathebandis are showing more greatly as panth becomes more knowledgable with dasam bani and itihas day-by-day, so much gyaan which was lost within panjabi sikhs during colonial times. In the 2000s, the groups were able to talk down this bani and  gyaan by associating it with  RSS and hindus, brahminwaad etc. Not working so well now is it? However with gyaan it would be also good for us to try and preserve our martial arts and keertan vidiya as well! More and more crazy keertan videos are coming out from jatha members that are being made fun of and making sangat annoyed and upset, on tiktok and instagram reels.

Being from Punjab, almost every Sardaarji i know (amritdhari or not) sleeps/showers with their hair uncovered. I don't think Guru Sahib asked us to wear Dastar to sleep and I don't think it is in SRM.   The idea of "keski being worn to sleep" is cos in Bollywood films (Bachna Ae Haseeno) Sikh characters usually tie a gol parna when sleeping since the actor's usually Hindu. So they gotta cover his head somehow or he'd have cut hair. Same reason Diljit wore a pagg to bed in the El Sueno vid. Only time they didn't do that was in Gadar with Sunny Deol which just looked odd tbh   What in the world? What sikh or even a decent human would base their knowledge of their culture or religion on a movie industry, that too Bollywood?  Believe me, no sikh ever said, I must cover my head becasue an actor did so in a movie. I've been doing it all wrong, I must start covering mh head because the sikh in that movie did.  Just because every panjabi and sardaar you know, does something, also doesn't make it right..  Follow the guru. And if you have a medical condition, then exemptions can be made.  Just admit it, because of my medical condition, I am not able to follow this rehit. Why are you getting everyone else to drop to your level?
    • Wasn't Guru Arjan Dev's martyrdom on amd always commemorated on 6th June? How come it was 30th May?  Just like 6th June 84, where the likes of Terrorists like Indira Gandhi chose to attack Darbar Sahib where many many innocent Sikhs would suffer, as they went to commemorate Martyrdom of Maharaj.
