Sikh Society Freshers..Ideas Needed!

WjkkWjkf , das has been asked to do seva at the Leeds Met Sikh Society -

last year there were only 5 events which 3 were social ... e.g ice skating and meet and greet. the 3 talks we had were on kalyug, hola maholla and a general discussion typed event. At all the events only 5 regular members came... expect for the social events which was 20+ people!

Does the sangat have any ideas to kick start things off? Esp at the freshers fairs where people sign up.

70 peopled joined last year only 2 came out of the 70 to the events...

We need to push the parchar...

any ideas would be helpful thanks!

yh im in the same situation we have a langar and where all show up but even the regular meetings are like 25 ppl jithe Sikhi dian gllan huday and for the parties ect we have 5-700 plus

Give them a stake in Sikhi and relevance in their lives and they will come. Do lectures on Sikh history and how relevant todays issues are that were relevant back in the dark days. Show them how converting out of Sikhi or living a non-sikh lifestyle eventually means you erode all links you had to their faith. Give them workshops where they can be creative to help design youtube video's or things to provide their contribution towards Sikhism. Provide networking events where single Sikhs can get together if they looking for a long term partner or wanting to start up some kinda business.

You have to be dynamic and tuned into the modern life. Otherwise no one will be bothered to come apart from the hardcore religious who dont need targeting anyways.
