Paath Beside Akhand Paath?

I have seen at some gurdwaras here near the SGGS during the akhand paath that a smaller paath is being read also continuously. I am assuming this is Japji Sahib. Who can do this seva ? can it be someone who is not amritdhari? I am not kesdhari but I do paath and can read SGGS paath. (although have never read from SGGS) and I don't take any intoxicants, would it be possible for me to do roll on this smaller paath? I have seen non amritdhari lady's doing this seva in past.
