Akal Takht slams Manpreet Badal for visiting Dera

Amritsar: Akal Takht chief Giani Gurbachan Singh on Wednesday slammed People's Party of Punjab chief Manpreet Singh Badal for visiting Dera Sacha Sauda sect at Sirsa in Haryana, saying he had acted against the tenets of Sikh religion.

Gurbachan Singh said that since Badal had broken rules which should be adhered by "Amritdhari Sikh, he was no longer a true Sikh" and would not be summoned the Sikh temporal body but warned that he could face a boycott by the community.

"Akal Takht only summons baptized Sikhs and Badal was not baptized Sikh. A Gur Sikh (complete Sikh as per Sikh customs) or baptized Sikh who commits a blasphemous act or violates Sikh tenets can be summoned for hearing and be punished if found guilty," Singh said.

He said Akal Takht would ask the Sikh community all over the world to boycott Badal from all public and private events if he continues to visit Dera Sacha Sauda.

Various Sikh organisations had demanded that Badal, estranged nephew of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, should be summoned by Akal Takht for his visit to Dera.

The Dera chief Gurmit Ram Rahim was criticised after an advertisement on May 13, 2007 purportedly showed him distributing 'amrit' (nectar) in an attire similar to that of Sikh Guru, Gobind Singh.

Following the advertisement, violence broke out at several places in the country in which one person was killed and hundreds injured.

In 2007, Sikh clergy had directed the community to politically and socially boycott the Dera.

I have not seen this news reported anywhere else. Shouldn't Parkash Badal and his parwar also be boycotted. Parkash Badal his wife his son have all visited deras in the past.

It is right what the Jathedar has said against Manpreet Badal. However why is the jathedar silent on Akali Dal Badal giving siropa to the dusht Advani? Why is Jathedar silent when Parkash Badal himself has visited dera sacha sauda?

The Panjab elections are just around the corner and Manpreet, Badals nephew is a threat. It seems that the Jathedar of Akal Takht and the CM of Panjab have colluded to make sure Akal Dal Badal win.

This to me seems like a political move by Parkash Badal. He has utilised the Akal Takht for his own political purposes and it seems that the Jathedar of Akal Takht is helping him.

This Jathedar is so openly pro-Badal. Why didn't Sant Samaj condemn Badal when Akali Dal honoured Advani in Panjab?

If only we had a leader like Sant Jarnail Singh ji........................................

Whatever the Jathedar has said is heavily influenced by Badal. But it is a sort of catch 22 situation. Manpreet Badal had once taken Amrit so technically he can be summoned to Sri Akal Takhat Sahib for going against the Sikh Tenets.

However, if the Jathedar Sahib does summon Manpreet Badal then that opens up a whole floodgate of other leaders who will have to be summoned for the same violation. And that includes Parkash Badal, Sukhbir Badal, Gurdev Badal, Adesh Partap Singh Kairon, Harsimrat Badal, Bikram Majithia and Nirmal Kahlon all members of the Core committee of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal).

So rather than summon Manpreet and risk losing all his core committee, Badal has tried to play on the Sikh emotions and threatened Manpreet with boycott of the Sikhs via the Akal Takhat.

Jathedar of Akal Thakt has said before that Parkash Badal visited Chuta Sauda before he became Jathedar and therefor he cannot deal with it. The Jathedar said he is only obligated to deal with issues that have risen since he has become Jathedar. Using Jathedar Sahib's logic, he shouldn't pursue any justice for the victims of the 1984 attack and genocide since those events took place before he was given the position of Jathedar.

But alas, the fools elected the ringmaster, and it seems they like 'em enough to let 'em keep his seat.

dared to challenge the authority of the Akal Takht by visiting Chuha Sauda. Akal Takht had directed all Sikhs to boycott the bastards in 2007. Whoever

disregards the directive should be thrown out of the Panth. That includes the core committee of SAD if they have interacted with the bastards after 2007.

Totally agree with you. Manpreet Badal should be called out and be held accountable for his visit to Chuta Sauda.. well if he considers himself a Sikh. Parkash Badal, his son, and other Shiromani "Akali" Dal leaders visited Chuta Sauda in January of 2007, but the Jathedar doesn't think that warrants even a little warning? Mrs. Badal can visit Ashutosh without any repercussions? Parkash Badal's government can practice police brutality in Ludhiana, against Sikhs protesting the admittance into Punjab of an anti-Sikh "holy man", but not get called out for it by the Akal Thakt?

Now that is an extremely lacking list of things the Badal family is responsible for.. but is that what it takes to earn the title of "Panth Rattan Faqar-e-quam" ?

I'm a part of the Panth, and I for sure am not proud of that disease.
