Indias own Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has concluded that the massacre of Sikhs was carried out on a massive scale by the Indian Government aided by the Police.

What place to do Sikhs have in India?

1984 anti-Sikh riots backed by Govt, police: CBI

New Delhi: The killing of people in the Delhi Cantonment area during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots was the result of a well executed conspiracy, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said on Monday as the agency finished its arguments in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in the Delhi Cantonment area case. The CBI said that people belonging only to a certain community were targeted with the pattern and scale of operation indicating that the action wasn't a spontaneous reaction but a well organised operation, which had the backing of the police and patronage of the system.

According to the CBI the police were co-conspirators as the officials did not register cases and did not pick up dead bodies from the streets. The CBI referred to a speech senior Congress leader Sajjan Kumar had made in Delhi's Raj Nagar where he incited the mob and said that not a single Sikh should survive and those sheltering Sikhs should be set ablaze.

The CBI also pointed out that police control room records don't have details of any of the major incidents of violence. In fact the police asked those residing in the Raj Nagar Gurdwara to surrender their weapons and hours later mobs came and attacked them. No damage to houses other than those of Sikhs were reported from the area.

The CBI also said Sajjan Kumar incited a mob, referring to his speech where he had said that not a single Sikh should survive.

The CBI cited eyewitnesses to prove that Sajjan Kumar took rounds of streets to incite people during the riots.

Earlier on Saturday, the CBI had told the court that the Delhi Police, acting in a pre-planned manner during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, kept its "eyes closed" to the violence.

CBI counsel RS Cheema said the city police "deliberately" did not act the way it was supposed to. "This was a case where the police acted in a pre-planned manner and every policemen was keeping his eyes closed," Cheema had told Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) JR Aryan.

He had said about 150 complaints were made regarding the riot incidents but only five FIRs were registered by the police.

The lawyers of Sajjan Kumar will reply in the case against him and five others, on May 15, 16 and 17. The Delhi Police will also put forward their arguments in the case. They are likely to argue that the CBI's claims are delayed and that there is no documentary evidence to prove the allegations. The case is likely to be concluded by July end.

Anti-Sikh riots broke out in several areas of the country after the then prime minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards in Delhi. Thousands of Sikhs were massacred during the riots.

Six Sikhs were allegedly killed in Delhi Cantonment area during the riots. The case against Sajjan Kumar was registered in 2005 on a recommendation by Justice GT Nanavati Commission. The CBI had filed two charge sheets against him and other accused in January 2010.

The trial court had in May 2010 framed charges against Sajjan Kumar and five others under Sections 302 (murder), 395 (dacoity), 427 (mischief to cause damage to property), 153-A (promoting enmity between different communities) and other provisions of the IPC.

The Delhi High Court had earlier asked the trial court to expeditiously dispose of the case.

Sajjan Kumar is facing prosecution in three separate cases in which he has been accused of inciting a mob against the Sikh community during the 1984 riots.

What's the end-game with this admission? What are they playing at? Call me suspicious but why now?

Obviously they're doing this to retain minimum legitimacy.

That means they're doing the least amount of work in regards to delivering justice and what the government is supposed to do - protect the citizens because Sikhs are bringing the terror of the indian state to light in the west.

It's a trick, a ploy to simply shut Sikhs up and use it in their defense.

Bringing this to light 27 years after the Sikh genocide after Sikhs are beginning legal proceedings and awareness in the west? hmmm

If that's the case Sikhs should highlight this ploy and not rest on our laurels. Ultimately this means nothing until the likes of Kumar and Tytler are swinging from the gallows - which they never will.

vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh

sangat ji beware these small news items are to pacify the sikhs and create divides in them. the reaction of the sangat to bhai balwant singh jis stand and the underlying anger and miscarriages of justice continue to haunt the indian state.

please beware of ppl who are advising the indian state from within the sikhs about closure of the issues of 1984, thats way the indian state and systems ie judiciary and media are trying to pacify the sikhs and to throw us token so called justice.

After 27 years of abuse and calculated destruction of the sikh faith the only way we going to survive is freedom ie what bhai balwant singh jis goal is and what the Sarbat Khalsa 1986 and Sant ji declared.

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
    • Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi Kalan uses simple Punjabi.
    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
