JALANDHAR: Reacting to the attack on Lt Gen (retd) Kuldip Singh Brar and his subsequent reaction that it was an act of separatist Khalistani organizations, Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale’s nephew and former Akal Takht Jathedar Jasbir Singh Rode has said that let the first investigations details come out before jumping to any conclusions.

Baba Harnam Singh, who now heads Damdami Taksal which was once headed by Bhindrawale, has also rubbished the suggestion that Blue Star memorial being raised in Darbar Sahib Complex was opening new wounds saying “wounds were already etched deep in Sikh psyche”. “These wounds can’t be healed by not raising a memorial but only if government of India apologizes for ordering attack on the holiest shrine of Sikhs and killing hundreds of innocents as well,” he argued. “Sikhs were angry against the attack, are angry and will always remain angry if government will not give any healing touch by apologizing,” h e argued adding “now even Congress leaders refrain from justifying the attack”.

“Brar is projecting himself to be hero but what was the fault of hundreds of innocent unarmed Sikhs who were killed by Brar’s armymen without giving them any chance to come out of the Golden Temple and that too when army chose the martyrdom day of fifth Sikh master Guru Arjan Dev to launch the offensive.

“Brar has indulged in self glorification with stereotyped reaction from him to blame followers of Sant Bhildrawale. The assailants have not yet been identified and Brar and his political sympathizers are out with conclusions,” Rode said while speaking to TOI.

“In place of blaming others Brar should introspect. The army action was a blunder and time has proved that there was little justification for it. Brar should have sought pardon for his role as he not only led the attack but also executed it very badly and great damage was done to the innocents and the Darbar Sahib,” Rode said. “Several eye witness accounts had detailed the excesses of the army men under Brar,” he said.

Rode said that even as Brar and a few others were naming some so called militant organizations but the attack appeared handiwork of some amateur people. “The anger is in the entire community and not just in a few people. You can’t divide it between soft liners or hard liners. Every Sikhs was pained by the army action ,” he said.

It's India. Do you really expect it will have any effect on India?

I heard from a friend in college whose elder brother was a senior officer in army -

Mrs. Gandhi offered Brar Chief Minister of Punjab, to be elected on a Congress(I) seat, plus land worth thousands of crores of rupees, plus hundreds of crores of money to be transferred to his new Swiss accounts overnight, if he acts as the General to attack Harimandir Sahib after Mr. Sinha refused to carry out shoot-out operation on thousands of innocent pilgrimages inside the shrine. Even, the DC of Amritsar, at that time, condemned the attack, saying there were more ways to get Mr. Bhindranwale out, if that was what Mrs. Gandhi wanted (and as a Dc I would had sorted it out in local legal ways), as he was always approachable and had courted arrest himself earlier when there were speculations on assasination of LALA Jagat narain, however Mr. Bhindranwale was released as no charges/evidences against him.

The CM stuff didn't got materialised as Mrs. Gandhi herself left this world in Nov. 84, but it is widely discussed within army circles/cantonments that Mr. Brar became a wealthy army officer overnight.

Anyway, who controls Wikipedia history - there is a lot of wrong history stuffed up there - which read by a first timer non-Sikh definately gives the first and last impression (as any non-Sikh is not going to go in details), that the Operation was justified. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amritsar

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
    • Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi Kalan uses simple Punjabi.
    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
