The Untrustworthy Mind

Recommended Posts

A few days back when i was at the gurdwara, the Giani Singh had been explaining two shabads, sitting at the gurdwara i felt i should recite these shabads daily.

So i decided that i would 2 big maala's of these shabads everyday.

Then down at the langar hall i changed to 2 small maalas!

And on the way home i decided that i was only going to do 1 small maala of 1 shabad. :blush2:

This reminded me of a saaki i had heard before which was about a gursikh who was climbing a tree to get some ripe fruit to eat. He was finding it difficult to get this fruit so in his mind he thought-

"if i get to eat the fruit i will give a sant 100 loe-yan (man version of a shawl)."

So as expected he ate the fruit which was at the top of the tree, on the way down his mind changed and he thought

"i worked hard to climb the tree why should sant ji get 100 loe-yan, ill just give 50"

Then on the way to the shop he thought "winters nearly gone, ill just buy 10 loe-yan"

Eventually arriving at the shop his mind decieted him and he said "1 loe is enough!"

After this he ran to the sant and into the darbar where the sant were doing katha and told them to "put the loe on straight away." The sant asked "why whats the hurry" and the man explained the whole story and said "im worried that if you dont take the loe now, in a few minutes my minds going to persuade me to take this 1 loe away aswell" :sprint:

Basically the moral of this saaki, i feel, is that your mind is totally untrustworthy, ehda kuch pata ni kado change ho jana.

So if you think of something good just do it straight away without thinking about it too much.

Where as when you think of something bad keep thinking about it and avoid doing it, apne man nu samjao k "chad man'na kalnu karageh" :mellow2:

Bhul chuk maaf ji

Free mind is devil of all works, thats why vichar, bibek, one point meditation of shabad is recommended all the time. With vichar and bibek, not much attention is required to subside the thoughts via effort as its automatic process-thoughts may continue - indentification will fall off, one pointed meditation on shabad dhian initially requires struggle with thoughts but that do also becomes effortless in overtime

As far as I understand, Inner bibek is contemplative intellect intuitive portion of mind(satvic mind) which tell all of us right and wrong helps us an aid to transcendent from maya. Mind itself is very vulnerable full of all kind of thoughts (good/bad dualistic thoughts) from previous samaskaras if one is not attuned with their intellect intuitive portion of mind (bibek) fully they end up following their thoughts of mind, then same thoughts are turned into desires, desires are turned into actions, actions then turned into karams-be it good or bad.

Please search ibbyk term in sri guru granth sahib ji (shabad khoj) do further self study and contemplation.

whole play is to win over that mind and especially the corrupt jatt mind i have !

Mind is where all thoughts start and every action comes from some thought.

Even the Jatt's action of slicing his duhmans head with a ganhdasa comes from the thought of justice.
