when yo read the letters of these great freedom fighters shaheed madan lal dingra ji shaheed udham singh ji shaheed kartar singh ji etc those letters were bloody mindblowing, they thought they were dieing for a sacred cause.

It kind of hurts that the way india is in comparison to what the shaheeds died for. eventhough i personally believe he kept kes I couldnt careless if bhagat singh had hair on his head or not hes one hell of a man who sacrificed his life for a cause and i respect him mona or otherwise.

waheguru ji ka khalsa, wahegurgu ji ki fateh

its me again.

great follow up posts, one must remember though that I do not share the same view as either of you because jail chittian was written much later, and my naniji (who was bhagat singh's sister) and her sister (who is now back in toronto) saw him before he died and he didn't have kesh. They also shared the last words of bhagat singh to kulbir, kultar, ranbir and rajinder...and none of his last words had anything to do with becoming amritdhari.

his sacrifice was in the spirit of sikhi, as far as the family is concerned. I am sharing what I know from their perspective because everything I am posting here is from what I have heard first hand from them

again, stay in chardeekallah ji

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

Pyare draw off je,

Can you please elaborate your relationship with shaheed Bhagat singh? Also who these individuals are that you mentioned where there at his last words?

If i remember correctly, the only people to hear his last words where his companions, and his jailers. He was hanged ahead of schedule to counter protests from large congregations gathered outside the jails. None of his family where allowed to meet him near the end. They had no idea of his hanging time being brought forward.

As far as him being a sikh at the end. This was stated by his family members on Punjab radio on his shaheedi anniversary. It seems strange that we now have two different versions from the same family?

waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki fateh!

thanks for the replies again. I must say that I am not a scholar on shaheed bhagat singh's life, but I'll share everything I know. my naniji was shaheed bhagat singh's youngest sister. She passed away in 1997. I'll address all the questions I can, but please pardon me if I don't know some of the answers..the reason being, I'd prefer to admit that I am wrong and have people go away with the truth than to lie just to add to all the other propoganda.

Can you please elaborate your relationship with shaheed Bhagat singh? Also who these individuals are that you mentioned where there at his last words?

hanji, as I have mentioned above, my mother is the neice of bhagat singh. Her picture is up at the memorial in khatkarkalan. She is the daughter of jagir kaur (aka shakuntala devi...the name was changed by bhagat singh to allow them to go to school in one of those arya samaji places without their identities being known. That is why prakash kaur (the living sister in toronto, who I just came back from visiting.)is also known as smitra devi).

now with regards to his last words, you are 100% right. no one actually witnessed his last breaths apart from those who killed him. In the period before though, his whole family went to go visit him. His sister amar kaur has shared what he said (it was all talks about staying strong, making sure that they continue to fight etc etc).. her sons, professor jagmohan singh (who also wrote a book about bhagat singh) and manjit singh (edmonton) shared what they knew (manjit singh being the main person) and it coincided with what my mother and n

aniji have mentioned. I also have had the oppurtunity of staying with babar singh (faridabad) who is the son of kulbir singh (the eldest brother) and he showed me the diary of bhagat singh, and I made a video of it..not page for page, but little portions of it. So my words here are based on what I saw in that diary.

If i remember correctly, the only people to hear his last words where his companions, and his jailers. He was hanged ahead of schedule to counter protests from large congregations gathered outside the jails. None of his family where allowed to meet him near the end. true.

k, this is the interesting part about the family that I guess can be shared. First of all, I would be 2 families removed since my nani, married out, and then her daughter (my mom) married out. Well, out of all the people in my generation, I am the only person who has amrit shakked. Now, the families differ with regards to their religious persuasion as well. lets be honest, gurmukhs like bhai sahib bhai randhir singh's family until today are all gursikhs (I am related to his elder brothers granddaughter) so I know from my conversations with her etc, how much the family is into gursikhi.

Now, the whole family believes they are sikh. Yet, they define sikhs as being sahejdhari right. They are also a political family... kulbir singh's side was always BJP and kultar singh's side is congressi. The brothers themselves had issues because they were of different political persuasions. Then, half of the brothers married hindu, and the other half sikh. Well, sorry to bring punjabi culture into this, but people who marry out of religion/caste...tend not to hold those ties that would socio-culturally hold you together. Those brothers wh

o married into "sikh"/punjabi families would tend to call themselves sikhs. The truth though is this, many people in the family, even after having achieved a fair bit in life...still, up until today, do "name dropping". And it is for that reason that I didn't initially mention my relation. Most of you dont' know who I am, and those who do..most probably do know the relation. It has been ettiquette at home to not mention it.....

again, I consider myself gursikh and would like to keep it at that.

stay in chardeekallah gurmukho,

waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki fateh

sorry gurmukho, I answered the last post first, I don't want anyone feeling that I was showing any difference

hanji pyarayo,

ur shaheed bhagat singhs jis relativ can you share some more stuff about him please? thats inspiring to know he did simran in his life. so then he cudnt have been athiest huna?

Hanji ji, so this is also my own question. And you know they "taisa maan, taisa abhimaan"....well that is unfortunately the view of anyone I ask. for example, professor jagmohan singh, who is at least keshdhari, relates the bloodline of the sandhu's from khatkar kalan back to baba deep singh's brother...so you can see his sikh side. Now, from what I know of what my mom's naniji told her. Bhagat singh himself did have a bhagtee side to him. My nanaji who studied in university with him said he had a very "Tej" pratap. My nanaji also had the priveledge of doing sangat with jawala singh harkowahal wallay and baba harnam singh rampurkhera wallay. Now, nanaji himself was on the gurmukh side, and bhagat singh had asked him to join the movement to free india (again you must remember that kishan singh, bhagat singh's father, was a singh sabhia. His father wanted him to do his laavan around fire and he chose to do it around guru granth sahib ji) and my nanaji told him he had a wife and kids, bhagat singh said...it is your duty to tend to them then. The arya samaaji link, made by people, was more of a socialist link at that time because their scope was freedom of india and not necessarily freedom for sikhs alone.

i read from bhai sahib randhir singhs autobiography when i wa

s 18 thats where i picked up he had kes, but either way mona ya amritdhari what he spent and gave his life for i always respect.

safe

is it ok for me to ask what shaheed bhagat singh jis last words were?

ji, from what I remember reading now. Most of it had to do with lennist philosophy, land, demographics, how much people can be fed etc. His last moments were spent in thinking about how india can survive once they get freedom. He spoke of the dogma behind religion, but it looked like they were more notes. I might have the dates written..I'll check and get back to you. He didn't believe in religion (From what I read and inferred) as being a way to paradise. he felt it should be created by us and how we make this life...meaning don't sit there and meditate for a better afterlife when you could be making this one much better....this was a side note he made on the writings of some author.

stay in touch singh ji and its always good to hear what our veerjis were like back in the days how they lived their selfless lives.

i also heard that the film that was made about him was wrong he didnt have a love life, now did he never date out of principles?

he never dated. He even refused the one marriage that was offered

was shaheed sukdev ji and shaheed rajguru ji sikh too? jus curious prahji

ji, I believe one was bengali and the other could have been punjabi or bengali. I'll check to make sure... again don't quote me on this one.

when I was reading, I only had a little bit of time because the relative didn't really want me to look at it too much...it'll bring up too much family conflict!

keep asking whatever comes to mind, and I'll ask around and answer,

waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki fateh
