Going To A Church- Spreading Faith

I recently went to a church for the first time just out of curiosity. I have live in a particular part of London which has a very large church in the town centre. I have always wondered what it looked like inside especially during the Christmas celebrations. I have lived here for over a decade but never gone inside so it was quite an experience to go inside after seeing the building from outside for many years without knowing what is inside.

What struck me was how Christians try and bring other people to their faith. There was a large board with about 50 leaflets inside. Each of these leaflets was a message to bring other people to Christianity and was written in 50 different languages from Punjabi to spanish.

I though this was a very good idea that Sikhs could adopt. Why not print leaflets on info about the Sikh faith in as many different languages so that people would could find out about the Sikhism no matter what language they understood.

But I guess Sikhs would rather concentrate on their own caste to be bothered educating people on the Sikh faith and spreading the religion.

I agree with you, Christians have been able to spread their faith breaking the language barrier. It's a good tactic to learn from but Punjabis as a whole aren't very accepting of non-Punjabis, if they were 3HO Sikhs would be integrated and not have their own organization. We have to focus on allowing ourselves to be a multicultural faith.

Also many non Sikhs come to the Gurdwara and have langar. These people are often white people who come there have langar then just go. They dont learn anything about the faith as there has not been any effort made to educate people about Sikhism. Alls it takes is some printed information about the faith. This is a great opportunity for people to learn about the Sikhism. But there is usually nothing for non Sikhs and hence we are not considered very welcoming people. In mosques they also have thousands of leaflets about their faith for people interested in their religion.

Christian/churches/Mosques are way more organised in this respect. They welcome people to come to their faith with open arms and have countless leaflets on their faith for non Christians/Muslims to take home with them.

Its not about forcing people to convert to Sikhism or forcing religion down peoples throats. Its simply about informing people about our religion and it is up to them . Sikhism will never say Sikhism is the only path and everyone that is not Sikh is going to hell ie ridiculous statements like this as this goes against our fundamental beliefs. But there is no harm in printing info on Sikhs for those who are interested in the faith. These people then can take these leaflets and maybe pass it on to other people and hence this is how the faiths grow. But Sikhs make no effort at all in spreading the faith. we need to act now and do this and passing on the message of Sikhism is actually apart of the faith.

Saying this Christians/Muslims on the other hand are completely wrong in their approach also they go over the top and cross the line in being forceful about their faith especially when they say things like. Jesus is the way and everyone is going to hell apart from them.
