Sadh Sangat Ji.

MY phen ji's in Leicester are in need of your help.

Every year, on both the Parkash Divas of Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Vaisakhi, Leicester hosts a month long radio broadcast.

Usually it's great, bani from Guru's darbaar twice a day and lots of good talks and discussions. However, in the evening's the shows turn more cultural and the last slot of the day is always the bhangra show.

We wanted this to change. My Phenji's got together and started a Sikhi discussion talk for youth and a shabaad dedication slot.

So far, there has been good interest, but we need more if we are to push the bhangra slot to a side and continue talking about this great kaum of ours.

It is my humble request to you all...Please could everyone who can make the extra effort to tune in to 87.7FM or listen live on the internet at www.punjab2000.co.uk RADIO KOHINOOR on Thurdays 10.00pm til 12.00am / Fridays 8.30pm til 12.00am and Sundays 14.00pm til 16.00pm.

There are a whole host of discussions lined up, from talks about Sikhi, Shaheeds (commemorating both Baba Deep Singh Ji Shaheed and the four Sahibzade of our father Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji), we'll be discussing the CONVERSION topic this Thursday - please make sure you participate - we need your help.

Please, don't get me wrong, I myself will have no personal gain from anyone listening, and the show is not a paid show, it's a seva that we feel is vital for the preservation of Sikhi, especiall

y in Leicester.

PLEASE, PLEASE help and support us. You can PM me for more info.

lose the bhangra slot and the sikhi slots need to come in

theres already lots of radio programs or tv programs that have plenty of bhangra or other stuff. theres not enough sikhi parchar no.gif

i haven't heard sukhsagarradio alot but the few times i tuned in they didn't have no bhangra on there, and they sound like a very successful radio station. so RADIO KOHINOOR should be fine as well :e:

Advertise it on every sikh site/forum out there.......make big posters and post it at the gurdwaras, stick flyers to car windshields in the gurdwara parking lots, give your flyers to indian store wale so customers coming in can take one.

juz basically do advertising campaign and you'll get more listeners and callers for the radio station :TH:

This is the final week, and I think the Young Sikh's group have proved that they have a voice and can use it.

Please do ensure that you all tune in to the final shows and give your full support.

This is the weeks line-up:

THURSDAY 10.30PM - 12.00AM - Sikh's in the public eye - some Sikh police officers will be in the studio to discuss how they balance life as a Sikh with life as a Policeman. If you have any questions you would wish to pose them, please PM me, and I will pass them on.

FRIDAY - 8.30PM - 12.00AM - 1984 - What is there not to discuss? Sikh's wounds will never heal, the Young Sikh's will discuss the events of 1984 (JUNE & NOV) the issues which have arisen since, and talk about the plight for justice that still goes on today.

SATURDAY FINAL SHOW!! 2.00PM - 4.00PM a general talk about Sikhi and the Young Sikh's with everyone urged to take part and listen in to the inspiration stories from the people who've found their beloved Sikhi again.

Please do continue your support so that come Vaisakhi, this slot will once again be given to the Young Sikh's of LEicester to promote Sikhi on the airwaves.

    • Definitely the Guru Sahibs would be a heavier Scriptures to handle. Dasam Granth is more towards Bir Rass, Guru Gobind Singh showed his Greatness (of course, they would never say this) by separating his own Baania.  And the BIGGEST test of all?? Do we try and read Dasam Granth, Understand n show respect like we do to SGGS? Or... Do we QUESTION it? Guru Gobind Singh Ji is testing us.
    • My wife will be going for an MRI scan next week but her Kara won’t physically come off.  Is there any way the mri scan can be done with the Kara still on?  The alternative is we will have to try to saw it off before the scan.
    • was researching this and came back to this thread. Also found an older thread:
    • Net pay after taxes. If you don't agree, think about this: If you were a trader and started off in China with silk that cost 100 rupees and came to India, and you had to pay total 800 rupees taxes at every small kingdom along the way, and then sold your goods for 1000 rupees, you'd have 100 rupees left, right? If your daswandh is on the gross, that's 100 rupees, meaning you have nothing left. Obviously, you owe only 10% of 100, not 10% of 1000. No, it's 10% before bills and other expenses. These expenses are not your expenses to earn money. They are consumption. If you are a business owner, you take out all expenses, including rent, shop electricity, cost of goods sold, advertising, and government taxes. Whatever is left is your profit and you owe 10% of that.  If you are an employee, you are also entitled to deduct the cost of earning money. That would be government taxes. Everything else is consumption.
    • No, bro, it's simply not true that no one talks about Simran. Where did you hear that? Swingdon? The entire Sikh world talks about doing Simran, whether it's Maskeen ji, Giani Pinderpal Singh, Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi, or Sants. So what are you talking about? Agreed. Agreed. Well, if every bani were exactly the same, then why would Guru ji even write anything after writing Japji Sahib? We should all enjoy all the banis. No, Gurbani tells you to do Simran, but it's not just "the manual". Gurbani itself also has cleansing powers. I'm not saying not to do Simran. Do it. But Gurbani is not merely "the manual". Reading and singing Gurbani is spiritually helpful: ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਭਾਖਿਆ ॥  ਗਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਪੜਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The Lord's Bani and the words are the best utterances. Ever sing hear and recite them, O brother and the Perfect Guru shall save thee. Pause. p611 Here Guru ji shows the importance of both Bani and Naam: ਆਇਓ ਸੁਨਨ ਪੜਨ ਕਉ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਲਗਹਿ ਅਨ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The mortal has come to hear and utter Bani. Forgetting the Name thou attached thyself to other desires. Vain is thy life, O mortal. Pause. p1219 Are there any house manuals that say to read and sing the house manual?
