Went through the life magazine archives, you could tell which photos were of Sikhs migrating because you can see their jooreh.

A few of the photos had a description stating which religion they belonged to but most didn't, but you still can tell which photos are of Sikhs.

Excellent photos. Awesome finds. Thanks for posting them mate.

The river crossing one interested me in particular as my grandad once told me how, pre-partition, you used to be able to cross rivers in Punjab on small boats made by inflating up like a balloon the skin of a cow

You can tell that the Life magazine photographer was most interested in the breast-feeding one because he kept taking that photo at different angles but it was the river crossing one interested me in particular as my grandad once told me how, pre-partition, you used to be able to cross rivers in Punjab on small boats made by inflating up like a balloon the skin of a cow

Yeah your right, its such a innocent photo of a young family with a mother feeding her child but the perverted gorah clearly had something else in mind. I'v actually noticed this a lot in the photos of Indian women taken by British photographers   they took photos from dodgy angles.

But im glad that these goreh took these photos because they preserved our history through these photos.

That image of the young family with the 3 kids is also on display at the virasat e khalsa in anandpur, they made it into a massive wall poster.

A lot of the people in these photos dont even have shoes on, bechaare.

and you can see how hot it must of been, it looks really hot and bright

most of them have nothing with them apart from their cattle and carts.

these people went through a lot

Edited - Yes we did. Photographer doing his job during the time where our brothers and sisters were literally going thru hell. Due to civility issue, we removed breast feeding bibis picture.
